Mrs. Maxine M. Gagan (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

SOUTHERN PINES -- Mrs. Maxine McCaskill Gagan, 58, of 635 Fairway Drive died Wednesday in her home.

Mrs. Gagan retired from the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. today in Manly Presbyterian church by the Rev. William Rolland. Burial will be in Eureka Presbyterian Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mrs. Gagan is survived by her husband, John E. Gagan of the home; a son, John A. Gagan of Fort Rucker, Ala.; a daughter, Janet E. Gagan of Wilmington; two brothers, Jerry McCaskill of Hempstead and Jimmy McCaskill of Carthage; and two sisters, Judy Louy of Southern Pines and Susan McCrimmon of Carthage.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joseph and Kathleen Bryan Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, Duke University Medical Center, 725 Broad St., Durham, N.C. 27705.

Mrs. Ara H. Crutchfield (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

LEMON SPRINGS -- Mrs. Ara Hall Crutchfield, 92, of 5207 Apple Drive died Thursday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home chapel in Sanford by the Rev. James Estes. Burial will be in Jones Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Crutchfield is survived by two sons, Robert C. Crutchfield and James G. Crutchfield, both of Sanford; two daughters, Annie L. Smith of Sanford and Mary Ishmael of Lemon Springs; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Ms. Susie C. Bostic (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

NEWTON GROVE -- Ms. Susie Crumpler Bostic, 81, of 480 Warren Mill Road died Monday in Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in Littlefield Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Regular. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Bostic is survived by four daughters, Eula Mae Crumpler of the home, Margaret L. Crumpler of Newton Grove, Lizzie Sanders of Orange, N.J., and Christine Dillard of Roslyn, N.Y.; ten grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Robinson Funeral Home in Clinton.

Ms. Betty McKinnon (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

ROCKINGHAM -- Ms. Betty McKinnon, of 156 Galestown Road died Wednesday in Horizon Nursing Center in Durham.

Arrangements will be announced by Nelson Funeral Service.

Mrs. Helen T. Person (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

CARTHAGE -- Mrs. Helen Thomas Person, 72, of Carthage, died Wednesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Medical Center in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olive AME Zion Church by the Revs. Kenneth Lee and Samuel Fairley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Person is survived by three daughters, Irene Diggs of Durham, Gale Hargrove of Aberdeen and Darlene McLaughlin of Carthage; a son, Thomas Person of Jamaica, N.Y.; two sisters, Myrtle McLaughlin and Gerushia Wrencher, both of Carthage; a brother, Carlee Thomas of Robbins; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Gale Hargrove, 114 Sherwood Drive, Aberdeen.

Ms. Mary R. Benson (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

TRENTON, N.J. -- Ms. Mary F. Ross-Benson, 46, of Trenton, formerly of Raeford, N.C., died Sunday in Wood Johnson Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Daylight Pentecostal Church in Vass, N.C., by the Rev. Rosevelt Perkins. Burial will be in Mountain Grove AME Zion Church cemetery in Raeford.

Ms. Benson is survived by three daughters, Paula Benson and Ellis Benson, both of Texas and Jessica Benson of Trenton; two sons, Derrick Benson of Texas and Gayezon Benson of Trenton; three brothers, John J. Ross and Frank T. Ross, both of Pinehurst and Mallie W. Ross of Raeford; five sisters, the Rev. Helen Smith and Essie Mae Marsh, both of Southern Pines, Loretha Phillips, Diane Ross and Katherine McDougal, all of Philadelphia; and five grandchildren.

The public will be received Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Purcell Funeral Home in Southern Pines and at other times at the home of Mallie W. Ross, 176 Loop Road, Raeford.

Woodley A. Stevens (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

CLINTON -- Woodley Adkins Stevens, 83, of 407 Warsaw Road died Saturday in Elder Lodge Nursing Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. William E. Russell. Burial will be in Sandhills Cemetery.

Mr. Stevens is survived by several nieces and a nephew.

The public will be received today from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

James P. Carroll (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

CLINTON -- James P. “Soul Train” Carroll, 34, of 190 Grapevine Lane died Monday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral home chapel by the Rev. Perry Ashford. Burial will be in Sandhills Cemetery.

Mr. Carroll is survived by his mother, Emma D. Carroll of Clinton; and three brothers, Jimmy Carroll, James “Mike” Carroll and William E. Carroll, all of Clinton.

Mrs. Mamie N. Seaberry (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

DUNN -- Mrs. Mamie Naomi Seaberry, 87, of 120 Mars St. died Monday.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Faith Tabernacle United Holiness Church in Bunnlevel by the Revs. Lee Annie McNeill and elder W.H. Walker, Jr. Burial will be in the Walker family cemetery.

Mrs. Seaberry is survived by two daughters, Betty S. Byrd of the home and Annie S. Campbell of Lillington; two sons, Johnny B. Seaberry of Baltimore and Gaddie Seaberry of Oakland, Calif; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 7:45 p.m. at Dafford Funeral Home chapel.

Marshie M. Thompson (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Mrs. Marshie Mitchell Thompson, 93, of Brooklyn, formerly of Lumberton, N.C., died Monday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in New Light Baptist Church in Hallsboro, N.C., by the Rev. Herbert L. Smith. Burial will be in Mitchell Field Cemetery in Clarkton. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Bryant in Hallsboro.

Ruben Jacobs (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

CLARKTON -- Ruben Jacobs, 69, of 1214 Quill Moore Road died Wednesday in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Pierce’s Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Jackie Burney. Burial will be in Mitchell Field Cemetery.

Mr. Jacobs is survived by his wife Emmaline Jacobs; a daughter, Shirley Jacobs of Clarkton; four sons, John Jacobs of Springfield, Mass., Vergan Jacobs and James Jacobs, both of Clarkton and Glenn Jacobs of Victorville, Calif; and a sister, Emma Robinson of Elizabethtown.

A wake will be held Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home chapel in Whiteville.

McArthur Clarida (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

CHADBOURN -- McArthur Clarida, 33, of 1992 Braswell Road died Thursday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Mrs. Eunice P. Whitted (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

Mrs. Eunice Elaine Pinkey Whitted, 42, of Route 5, Fayetteville, died June 1 in Connecticut.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in China Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. M.E. Stubbs. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by F.W. Newton & Sons Funeral Home of Elizabethtown.

Mrs. Whitted is survived by a sister, Scarlet Keith of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Claude S. Williamson (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

EVERGREEN -- Claude Shelton Williamson, 62, of 7649 Princess Ann Road died Wednesday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Vernon Williamson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Williamson is survived by his wife, Mary B. Williamson of the home; two sons, Claude S. Williamson Jr. and Timothy Williamson, both of Evergreen; a daughter, Becky W. Lee of Evergreen; three brothers, Culbreth “Curt” Williamson and Branton “Jim” Williamson, both of Evergreen and J.K. “Bud” Williamson of Cerro Gordo; three sisters, Elizabeth Williamson of Delco, Sue Martin of Lumberton and Eva Jane Britt of Boardman; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.

Mrs. Pauline T. Hannon (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

BUNNLEVEL -- Mrs. Pauline T. Hannon, 79, died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Flat Branch Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Bertrand Pitchford and O. Talmadge Spence. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hannon is survived by a daughter, Marianna Shaw of Bunnlevel; two sons, Mike E. Hannon of Smithfield and J. Pat Hannon of Carrollton, Texas; a sister, Doris Reardon of Raleigh; a brother, Robert Temple of Bunnlevel; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington.

Mrs. Dora Powell Campbell, 92, of 400 Pelt Drive, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Wiseman Mortuary chapel by the Rev. John Troy. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery No. 4.

Mrs. Campbell is survived by two daughters, Carrie B. Melvin of Roseboro and Sallie M. Davis of Detroit; three sisters, Daisy McLeary of Roseboro, Rebecca Saunders and Mary L. Gilliard, both of South Carolina; three brothers, George Williams, Malachi Williams and Isaiah Williams, all of South Carolina; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

The public will be received tonight from 1 to 8 at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Carrie B. Melvin, 2016 Claude Dragg Road, Roseboro.

Alfonzia Williams (Dated Friday, June 12, 1998)

BRONX, N.Y. -- Alfonzia Williams, 56, of Bronx, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Sunday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wiseman Mortuary chapel in Fayetteville by elder Daniel Hall. Burial will be in Northside Cemetery.

Mr. Williams is survived by two sisters, Hazel Burrell and Evangelist Ethel Campbell, both of Fayetteville; and two brothers, Charles Williams and David Strother, both of Fayetteville.

The public will be received tonight from 1 to 8 at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Evangelist Ethel Campbell, 981 Wayside Road.
