Dr. John R. Wagaman (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Dr. John Randolph Wagaman, 84, of 1098 Fort Sumter Drive, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Monday.

Dr. Wagaman was a Navy veteran of World War II. He practiced podiatry in Fayetteville for more than 40 years. He was a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the North Carolina Podiatric Medicine Society.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in LaFayette Memorial Park by the Rev. James C. Cammack. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Region 7, 136-A Bow St., Fayetteville, N.C. 28301.

Charles F. Lee (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

DUNN -- Charles Fulton Lee, 52, of 1028 Thornton Road died Tuesday in Raleigh Community Hospital in Raleigh.

Mr. Lee was employed by Heritage Concrete. He was also the owner of Pleasure Time Pools. Mr. Lee was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Black’s Chapel United Methodist Church by the Revs. Frank Daniels, George Williford and Jerome Pope. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Peggy J. Lee; two sons, Gerald F. Lee of Dunn and Charles K. Lee of Benson; a brother, C. Weldon Lee of Dunn; three sisters, Ethel L. Baker of Greenville, Patsy Wade of Erwin and Frances Register of Dunn; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thelma L. Torok (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

WADE -- Mrs. Thelma LaRaine Torok, 33, of Route 2 died Monday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday in Cross Creek Cemetery No. 3 by the Rev. James Ponders.

Mrs. Torok is survived by her husband, Chris Torok of Wade; a daughter, Brandi Matthews of Wade; her father, R.A. Wrench of Wade; and two sisters, Ellen Musselwhite of Raleigh and Jackie Miller of Stedman.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Clyde M. Stone (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

COATS -- Clyde Martin Stone, 75, of 50 Dooley St. died Wednesday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

Mr. Stone was a retired loom fixer for Burlington Mills. He was also a retired radio announcer for WCKB.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Coats United Methodist Church by the Rev. Chuck Herring. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Stone is survived by his wife, Dorothy W. Stone; a daughter, Patsy Clevenger of Coats; two brothers, Alvin Stone of Raleigh and Bobby Stone of Durham; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home.

Naomi J. Smith (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

LAURINBURG -- Naomi J. Smith, 106, of Scotia Village died Monday in her home.

Arrangements will be announced by Boles Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines.

Mrs. Rosa H. Payton (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

CLINTON, Md. -- Mrs. Rosa Henegan Payton, 52, of Clinton, formerly of Laurinburg, N.C., died Monday in Southern Maryland Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Morris Funeral Home of Red Springs.

Dvearl C. Mack (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

Dvearl C. Mack, 24, of 900 Walker Court, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by H.M. Colvin Funeral Home.

Joseph ‘Pat’ Strickland (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

STEDMAN -- Joseph Patrick “Pat” Strickland, 52, of Route 1 P.O. Box 146, died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Mr. Stickland was an independent carrier for the Fayetteville Observer-Times and USA Today. He was also a youth baseball coach for 25 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Stedman Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Randall and Ray Strickland. Burial will be in the Strickland family cemetery.

Mr. Strickland is survived by his wife, Phyllis H. Strickland of the home; a son, Joseph H. “Hal” Strickland of Fayetteville; a daughter, Denah S. Wade of Fayetteville; a son, Patrick J. Strickland of the home; a stepson, Jon Turlington of Stedman; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Memorials may be made to Patrick Joseph Strickland Trust Fund, Home Federal Savings and Loan, 241 Green St., Fayetteville, N.C. 28301.

Mrs. Mae A. Washington (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

Mrs. Mae Agnes Washington, 65, of 1073 Danbury Drive, Fayetteville, died Monday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Wiseman Mortuary chapel by Bishop Loftin. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park.

Mrs. Washington is survived by three daughters, Wesley C. Fisher of Charlotte, Mazie M. Washington and Thelma E. Washington, both of the home; two sons, Gary L. Carter of Everman, Texas, and Allen W. Carter of Frankfurt, Germany; a sister, Mildred Elliot of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Claude L. Herring of Brooklyn and Clifton Williams of Roseboro; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.

Antwain D. Jones (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

Antwain Dominique Jones, infant son of Edward and Barbara Jones of 728 Rustland Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at Cunningham & Sons Mortuary chapel.

In addition to his parents, Antwain is survived by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Annie McNeill of Fayetteville; his paternal grandparents, Edward and Diane Jones Sr. of New Orleans; and his great-grandmother, Margaret McNeill of Fayetteville.

Mrs. Helen W. McEachern (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

Mrs. Helen Ruth Washington McEachern, 69, of 5467 Lazybrook Court, Fayetteville, died Monday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Wiseman Mortuary chapel by the Rev. Robert Brown. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park.

Mrs. McEachern is survived by four daughters, Linda R. Pearson, Helen J. Southwell, Felecia M. King and Debora Ann McEachern, all of Fayetteville; three sons, James A. McEachern Sr., Raymond J. McEachern and Michael W. McEachern, all of Fayetteville; a sister, Adell Greene of Fayetteville; five brothers, the Rev. Nathaniel Washington and the Rev. Roudolph Washington, both of Fayetteville, Preston Washington of Florida, Vernon Washington of Washington, D.C., and Carnell Washington of Greensboro; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The public will be received tonight from 1 to 8 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Juanita Drake, 52, of 824 Medlo Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Miss Anita J. Oxendine (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

ROWLAND -- Miss Anita Jane Oxendine, infant daughter of D. Wayne Oxendine and Marsha A. Butler Oxendine of Rowland, died Wednesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Hammer Church of God in Dillon County, S.C., by the Revs. James Stevens and Jerry Butler. Burial will be in Back Swamp Full Gospel Church Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Biggs Funeral Home of Lumberton.

In addition to her parents, Anita is survived by her maternal grandfather, Robert L. Butler of Fairmont; her maternal grandmother, Martha J. Butler of Rowland; her paternal grandparents, Fairley and Nancy S. Oxendine of Rowland; her paternal great-grandmother, Frances M. Scott of Greensboro; her maternal great-grandfather, Amon Locklear of Rowland; and her maternal great-grandmother, Stella M. Butler of Fairmont.

John R. Staples (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class John Robert Staples, 74, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Highland House Nursing Home.

Arrangements will be announced by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.

Lewis F. Cannon (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

Retired Army Master Sgt. Lewis F. Cannon, 74, of 2615 Wingate Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Arrangements will be announced by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.

Mrs. Eva Mae V. Bradshaw (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

ERWIN -- Mrs. Eva Mae Vann Bradshaw, 82, of Erwin, died Wednesday in Britthaven Nursing Home in Harnett County.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday at Erwin Church of God by the Revs. Currie Parker and Lavon Phillips. Burial will be in Erwin Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bradshaw is survived by a son, Charles M. Bradshaw of Erwin; a daughter, Doris B. Phillips of Wilson; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Price Funeral Home.

Mrs. Helen H. Owen (Dated Thursday, June 11, 1998)

GOLDSBORO -- Mrs. Helen Jean Hunnicutt Owen, 44, of Goldsboro, formerly of Sampson County, died Tuesday.

Mrs. Owen was an insurance agent with Waynesborough Insurance Services Inc.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel in Goldsboro by the Rev. Johnny Sasser. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Reidsville.

Mrs. Owen is survived by her parents Wiley D. Hunnicutt Sr. and Delores A. Hunnicutt of Stedman; a brother, Wiley D. Hunnicutt, Jr. of Fayetteville; and a sister, JoAnn Hales of Hampstead.

John T. Butler (Dated Wednesday, June 10, 1998)

John Thelbert Butler, 69, of 7082 Zepher Drive No. 26, Fayetteville, died Monday in his home.

Mr. Butler is survived by a daughter, Susan Hepner of Fayetteville; three sons, John W. Butler, William B. Butler and Charles P. Butler, all of Fayetteville; a brother, Robert L. Butler of Culpeper, Va.; two sisters, Lillie Mae Lookabill of Baltimore and Maude Settle of Culpeper; and three grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Rogers & Breece Funeral Home.

Mrs. Virginia B. Mills (Dated Wednesday, June 10, 1998)

PINEBLUFF -- Mrs. Virginia Butner Mills, 79, of 380 E. New England Ave. died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Medical Center in Pinehurst.

Mrs. Mills was a member of Pinebluff United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Sandhills Book Club. She was on the Pinebluff Library Committee.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Pinebluff United Methodist Church by the Rev. Bill Witt. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines.

Mrs. Mills is survived by four sons, Matthew Mills and John Mills, both of the home, Arthur Mills of Raleigh and Jeff Mills of Aberdeen; four daughters, Marilyn Bridgman of Southern Pines, Priscilla Abbitt of Richmond, Va., Sarah Thornton of Pinehurst and Maggie Thompson of Fuquay-Varina; and 15 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Pinebluff United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 65, Pinebluff, N.C. 28373; or to Pinebluff Public Library, P.O. Box 758, Pinebluff, N.C. 28373.
