CLINTON -- Woodley Atkin Stevens, 83, of Clinton died Saturday in Elder Lodge nursing home in Fayetteville.

Mrs. Martha E. Leath (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
SANFORD -- Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Leath, 91, of 1107 Carthage St., formerly of Fries, Va., died Sunday in her home.
Mrs. Leath was a homemaker. She attended Buffalo Presbyterian Church and had been a member of Friends Church in Galax, Va.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. today in Buffalo Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William Pauley. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Monta Vista Memorial Gardens in Galax.
Mrs. Leath is survived by two sons, Robert W. Leath of Fayetteville and James R. Leath of Galax; two daughters, Lois Martin and Marie Wicker, both of Sanford; a sister, Annie B. Brown of Thomasville; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home of Libby and Jerry Ragland, 1738 Plank Road.
Mrs. Myrtie R. Parker (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
DUNN -- Mrs. Myrtie Ryals Parker, 95, of Dunn died Monday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Maryellen Switzer. Burial will be in Prospect Free Will Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Parker is survived by two sons, Walter G. Parker and Carl H. Parker, both of Dunn; a grandson; and a great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Washington L. Dennis (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
DUNN -- Washington Lee Dennis, 74, of 700 E. Duke St. died Sunday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Mr. Dennis was a retired roofer and sheet-metal worker. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Sherrill Pope and Louis Bass. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Dennis is survived by his wife, Lela W. Dennis of the home; two sons, Kenneth L. Dennis of Dunn and Jerry of Raleigh; a daughter, Kathy Pleasant of Dunn; three brothers, Robert H. Dennis of Suffolk, Va., Owen W. Dennis of Carson City, Nev., and William C. “Bill” Dennis of Erwin; two sisters, Bertha Futrell and Joyce Hawley, both of Dunn; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and three step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Sylvester Collins (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
APPLING, Ga. -- Sylvester Collins, 71, of 7020 Rance Perry Road, formerly of Lumberton, N.C., died Thursday in his home.
Mr. Collins was a retired painter.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton. Arrangements are being handled by Biggs Funeral Home of Lumberton.
Mr. Collins is survived by a son, Vester Collins of Blythe; two daughters, Peggy Best and Alice Erkens, both of Appling; three brothers, Joseph Collins, Roy Collins and Elijah Collins, all of Maxton; three sisters, Zelma Hackett, Agnes Britt and Emma J. Collins, all of Lumberton; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends after the service.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Mrs. M. Isabell Cromartie, 80, of 118 Iws Drive died Monday in Elizabethtown Nursing Center.

Mrs. Lillie M. Locklear (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
RAEFOD -- Mrs. Lillie Mae “Dinnie Mae” Locklear, 83, of 123 Red Berry Lane died Sunday in her home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Hoke County Holiness Church by the Revs. Gene T. Chavis and Elisha Dial. Burial will be in Bear Swamp Church cemetery.
Mrs. Locklear is survived by a son, Steve F. Locklear of Pembroke; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home in Pembroke and Wednesday after 6 p.m. at Hoke County Holiness Church.
Mrs. Joan M. McDowell (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
ELIZABETHTOWN -- Mrs. Joan McKoy McDowell, 48, of 57 Frank Melvin Road died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Baldwin Branch Baptist Church by the Rev. Frank Pone. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by F.W. Newton & Sons Mortuary.
Mrs. McDowell is survived by a daughter, Marsha McKinnon of the home; a son, Andre McKoy of Elizabethtown; her parents, Edgar and Lucille McKoy of Elizabethtown; five brothers, Willie McDowell of Philadelphia, James McKoy of Guam, Curtis McKoy of Seattle, and Harry McKoy and Jerry McKoy, both of Elizabethtown; five sisters, Bertha Webb of Cape May, N.J., and Alice Graham, Arlensie McKoy, Angela Dimery and Eleanor Evans, all of Elizabethtown; and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Julia C. Dowdy (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
SOUTHERN PINES -- Mrs. Julia Cheek Dowdy, 90, of Southern Pines, formerly of Aberdeen, died Sunday in St. Joseph of the Pines.
Mrs. Dowdy was a member of Trinity AME Zion Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Trinity AME Zion Church by the Rev. B.D. Dowdy. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Dowdy is survived by her husband, John C. Dowdy of Southern Pines; two daughters, Deloris Arceneaux and Viola Jones, both of Southern Pines; and a son, Edward E. Monroe of Boston.
A wake will be held Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Kendrick Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the home of Deloris Arceneaux, 1571 W. Pennsylvania Ave. extension.
Mrs. Lillian J. Huntley (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
SOUTHERN PINES -- Mrs. Lillian Johnson Huntley, 86, of 140 Golf Crest Lane died Sunday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Southern Pines First Baptist Church by the Rev. David Helms. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Old Chapel Hill Cemetery in Chapel Hill. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Huntley is survived by a son, William T. Huntley III of Roswell, Ga.; a daughter, Susan H. Bradley of Tampa, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Maynard C. Johnson (Dated Tuesday, June 9, 1998)
SANFORD -- Maynard Christopher Johnson, 88, of 2910 Hawkins Ave. died Sunday in Central Carolina Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was the chief inspector for Edwards Co. and was retired from Sacco Lowell.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Lee Memory Gardens by the Rev. Eric Porterfield. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Estelle B. Johnson of the home; and a sister, Josephine J. Bridgers of South Carolina.
The family will receive friends after the service.
