Ms. Bertha M. Floyd

FAIRMONT -- Ms. Bertha Mae Floyd, 82, of Route 2 died Wednesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Mount Zion Freewill Baptist Church by Bishop Bobby Verene. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Floyd is survived by four daughters, Mary McRae, Patsy Sheridan and Sandra Turner, all of Fairmont, and Josephine Barnes of Lumberton; three sons, Fred Floyd of Lumberton and Norman Floyd and Randolph Floyd, both of Fairmont; 30 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Community Funeral Home.

Carroll B. Durant

Retired Lt. Col. Carroll B. Durant, 63, of 7367 Hyannis Drive, Fayetteville died Tuesday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Samuels Funeral Home of Manning, S.C.

Danny R. Parker

McCOLL, S.C. -- Danny Ray Parker, 42, of McColl died Wednesday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in McColl Church of God. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers Funeral Home.

Among Mr. Parker’s survivors are his mother, Betty S. Parker of Laurinburg, N.C.; two brothers, Donnie Parker and Charles Parker, both of Gibson, N.C.; and a sister, Beverly P. Dotson of Laurel Hill, N.C.

Billy McPhatter

LUMBERTON -- Billy McPhatter, 71, of 1301 N. Cedar St. died Thursday in Wesley Pines Nursing Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Larry E. Ammons

COATS -- Larry Edward Ammons, 37, of 255 Pierce Lane died Thursday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Mr. Ammons was a carpenter.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Jesse Mooney.

Mr. Ammons is survived by his parents, E. Vernon and Loral G. Ammons; two sisters, Cathy Weaver of Benson and Carolyn Kopen of Dunn; and his maternal grandparents, Leewood and Versel Goodwin of Benson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Liver Foundation or to the charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Ruby S. Howell

ROSEBORO -- Mrs. Ruby Joy Stallings Howell, 82, of 105 Wrench St. died Wednesday in Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

Mrs. Howell was a registered nurse. She was a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She worked at Sampson Regional Medical Center before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Roseboro First Baptist Church by the Rev. Greg Templin. Burial will be in Roseboro Cemetery.

Mrs. Howell is survived by three sons, David M. Howell, Charles W. Howell and Donald H. Howell, all of Raleigh; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Butler Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Roseboro First Baptist Church.

Robert H. Mitchell

BUIES CREEK -- Robert H. Mitchell, 74, of Buies Creek died Wednesday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

Mr. Mitchell was a Navy veteran of World War II.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Coats United Methodist Church by the Rev. Chuck Herrin. Burial will be in Pleasant Plains Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Mary Mitchell of Buies Creek; a son, Ralph Mitchell of Willow Springs; a daughter, Marion Lilly of Buies Creek; and three sisters, Graham Horba of Norfolk, Va., Hazel Weaver of Buies Creek and Sarah Arrington of Coats; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Skinner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Coats United Methodist Church fellowship building fund, P.O. Box 388, Coats, N.C. 27521.

Chandos L. ‘Chan’ Smith
FAIRMONT -- Chandos Lewis ‘‘Chan’’ Smith, 71, of 12073 N.C. 130 died Wednesday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Mr. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a tobacconist, Mason, and Shriner. He was a Navy veteran.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Fairmont Cemetery by the Rev. Mark Gaskins and Dr. Thomas L. Rich. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Funeral Services.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Barbara M. Smith of the home; four daughters, Amy Smith and Jo Ann Lewis, both of Fairmont, Brenda S. Poole of Coats and Chandra Page of Lumberton; two sisters, Clara Williams of Matthews and Katherine Bassett of Fairmont; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, South Main St., Fairmont, N.C. 28340.

Harry Monds

LILLINGTON -- Harry Monds, 82, of 100 Washington St. died Wednesday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Lillington Grove Free Will Baptist Church by elder Linwood Randolph. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Dafford Funeral Home of Dunn.

Mr. Monds is survived by two daughters, Linda McKoy of Hyattsville, Md., and Patricia Midgette of New York; a son, Willie Monds of Bunnlevel; two brothers, John R. Munn and Elder Munn, both of Trenton, N.J.; three sisters, Florida M. Covington of Wilson, Elaine Frazier of Sanford and Romelia McLean of Ohio; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church.

Mrs. Mary B. Johnson

FAIRMONT -- Mrs. Mary Lou Bowen Johnson, 71, of 3165 J.W. Road died Wednesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of Oakdale Church of God. She was a homemaker.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Oakdale Church of God by the Revs. Tommy Lewis and Wayne Cribbs. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Funeral Services.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, James C. Johnson of the home; three sons, James Johnson of Bladenboro, George Johnson of Greensboro and Mark Johnson of the home; a daughter, Wendy Britt of Lumberton; a sister, Velma Bowen of Georgia; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight beginning at 7 at the church.

Ms. Styliani K. Anagnostopoulos

Ms. Styliani K. Anagnostopoulos, 84, of 304 Courtyard Lane, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Hersey C. Whitted

Hersey Clayton Whitted, 49, of Route 2, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in First New Light Baptist Church in White Oak by the Revs. Calvin Brewington and Clyde McLaughlin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Whitted is survived by his wife, Angeline Whitted of the home; four daughters, Anjenette Wallace of Cleveland, Melinda Whitted of Greensboro and LaKesha Wallace and Asia Whitted, both of Fayetteville; a son, Hersey T. Whitted of Fayetteville; five brothers, Jasper Whitted, James Whitted, Richard Whitted, Jimmie Whitted and Ronald Whitted, all of Fayetteville; a sister, Lillie Culbreth of Fayetteville; and seven grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lealon R. Franklin Sr.

LAURINBURG -- Lealon Robert Franklin Sr., 74, of 408 R. Gramham St. died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Mr. Franklin was a truck driver before retiring. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Boles Funeral Home & Crematory chapel by the Revs. Lewis McLean and Stephen Owenby. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

Mr. Franklin is survived by two sons, Lealon Franklin Jr. of Laurinburg and Fredrick D. Franklin of Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters, Kay Rederick-English of Fayetteville and Jacquelyn F. Jones, Wanda F. Land and Darlene S. Holland, all of Laurinburg; three brothers, Liston Franklin of Rockingham, Lentz Franklin of Durham and Lewis Franklin of Graham; two sisters, Lois F. Nichols of Aberdeen and Lurline F. Holloway of Sussex, Va.; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Thomas S. Mohr

SANFORD -- Thomas S. Mohr, 82, of Sanford died March 24 in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Rick Martindale. Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

Mr. Mohr is survived by a son, Geoffrey Mohr of Webster, N.Y.; two daughters, Alondra Reamer of Sanford and Nancy Ralston of Fairport, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Gloria Knox of Erie, Pa., and Sally Sperry of Florida; a sister, Josephine Clifford of Rush, N.Y.; and 11 grandchildren.

Lennien McKoy

RICHMOND, Va. -- Lennien McKoy, 67, of Richmond, formerly of Fairmont, N.C., died Sunday in Medical College Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Community Funeral Home in Fairmont by the Rev. A. Dudley.

Mr. McKoy is survived by five daughters, Sheila Thompson, Lynn McKoy, Gloria McKoy, Velma Regan and Sarah Dawson, all of Lumberton, N.C.; four sons, Dennis McKoy, Ronnie McKoy and John McKoy, all of Lumberton, and Lindwood McKoy of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and a sister, Lucille Rorie of Chesapeake.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at 58 Cline St., Lumberton.

Mrs. Mary S. Barefoot

CLINTON -- Mrs. Mary Susan Barefoot, 56, of 366 George McKenzie Lane died Tuesday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Mrs. Barefoot was a member of Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. David Willis.

Mrs. Barefoot is survived by her husband, Roy H. Barefoot of the home; a daughter, Rhonda Fredenberg of Clinton; two sons, Roy D. Barefoot of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Mark E. Barefoot of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister Ann Strickland of Clinton; seven brothers, Charles Tart of Fayetteville, Glenn Tart of Charleston, S.C., Charles McKenzie of Lancaster, Pa., George McKenzie, Jim McKenzie and Howard McKenzie, all of Clinton, and Milton McKenzie of Raleigh; and six grandchildren.

Miss Ashley E. Hall

LUMBERTON -- Miss Ashley Elaina Hall, 6, of 434 Dallas Road died Wednesday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Ashley was a member of Holly Grove Holiness Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Holly Grove Holiness Church in Clinton by the Revs. Roscoe Emanuel, Randy Simmons and Ricky Jacobs. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Cumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Ashley is survived by her mother, Lisa A. Hall of Lumberton; her father, Melvin Emanuel of Lumberton; three brothers, Ronald Guillette and Roscoe L. Emanuel, both of Fayetteville, and Roscoe M. Emanuel of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Laura M. Emanuel of Lakeland; her maternal grandparents, Roy and Jean Abbott of Fayetteville and Robert and Bobby Lee of Spring Lake; and her paternal grandparents, and Roscoe and Laurine Emanuel of Clinton.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.

Anthony A. Gretkowski

DeLAND, Fla. -- Anthony A. Gretkowski, 81, of Stevens Ave. died Tuesday in his home.

No services are being held. Arrangements are being handled by Lankford Funeral Home.

Among Mr. Gretkowski’s survivors is a daughter, Toni Gretkowski-Lamm of Fayetteville, N.C.
