The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Zion Baptist Church in Greensboro by the Rev. George Brooks. A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Lee Memory Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Horton Funeral Home.

Mr. Smith is survived by a son, David L. Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two daughters, Karen I. McLean of Fort Lauderdale and Carolyn McCants of Philadelphia; three sisters, Rebecca S. Morris of Wichita, Kan., Naomi Siler of Sanford and Theresa Green of Greensboro; and a brother, Reginald Smith of New York.

Matthew D. Yow

SANFORD -- Matthew David Yow, 64, of 7308 Center Church Road died Sunday in his home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Center United Methodist Church cemetery by the Revs. James Caviness and Bill Mitchell. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

Mr. Yow is survived by his wife, Peggy C. Yow of Sanford; two daughters, Elizabeth Y. Elder of Cary and Valerie Y. Davenport of Sanford; a sister, Adalene Y. Creazzo of Morristown, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, Campus Box 7295, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27599-7295.

Ms. Margaret B. Williams

GRIFTON -- Ms. Margaret Banks ‘‘Peggy’’ Williams, 68, of 603 Wall St., formerly of Sanford, died Saturday in Pitt Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Buffalo Cemetery by the Rev. Paul Leeland. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

Ms. Williams is survived by a brother, Clawson L. Williams Jr. of West End; and two sisters, Linda W. Jernigan of Ahoskie and Irene W. Frazer of Mobile, Ala.

Memorials may be made to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, 200 N. Gleland, Suite 1015, Arlington, Va. 22203.

Mrs. Thelma P. Warren

Mrs. Thelma Parker Warren, 70, of 1625 Flintshire Road, Fayetteville, died Sunday in her home.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Reeves Funeral Home chapel in Hope Mills by the Rev. Pearl Leach.

Mrs. Warren is survived by three sons, Pervis Junior of Hope Mills, Raymond Alan of San Diego and Eddie Lynn of Fayetteville; seven daughters, Carol Overmann, Mable Lois and Wanda Sherri, all of Fayetteville, Rachel Ann, Pamela Sue and Lydia Faye, all of Hope Mills, and Martha Louise of Grays Creek; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cancer Research Center, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. 27710-7599; or to the Disabled American Veterans, 520 Johnson St., Fayetteville, N.C. 28303-3617.

Mrs. Estelle Underwood

CLINTON -- Mrs. Estelle Alderman Underwood, 74, of 219 Nathan Dudley Road died Sunday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Mrs. Underwood was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church by Dr. David Kolb. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park.

Mrs. Underwood is survived by her husband, Robert J. Underwood; two daughters, Deborah A. Lucas of Faison and Marlene Underwood of Clinton; two sons, Jerry Underwood and Mark Underwood, both of Clinton; a sister, Evelyn Kennedy of Goldsboro; two brothers, John L. Butler of Newport News, Va., and Roland Butler of Clinton; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.

Mrs. Carlie L. Tuton

CHADBOURN -- Mrs. Carlie Lee Tuton, 87, of 7693 Rough and Ready Road died Sunday in her home.

Mrs. Tuton was a tobacconist.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Ward’s Station Church of God by the Revs. Charles Dudley and Lawrence Keel. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Worthington Funeral Home.

Mrs. Tuton is survived by a son, Carlton D. Tuton of Fayetteville; two daughters, Glenda T. Callaway of Ocala, Fla., and Pat Tuton of the home; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the home.

Durrell R. Tubb

Thomas Smith

Thomas Smith, 76, of Fayetteville died May 11.

Mr. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted at noon Wednesday in LaFayette Memorial Park West by the Rev. Cureton L. Johnson. Arrangements are being handled by Lain-Sullivan Funeral Home of Park Forest, Ill.

Mr. Smith is survived by three daughters, Hilda Rose of Forest Park, Glenda Cline of Chesapeake, Va., and Deloine Hicks of Norfolk, Va.; a son, Anthony Smith of Norfolk; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Peterson is survived by a niece.

Ms. Locklear is survived by two sons, Nathan Jones and James L. Jones, both of Maxton; her mother, Pearl Locklear of Maxton; her stepfather, Harold D. Oxendine of Maxton; a brother, Earl R. Oxendine of Maxton; and her maternal grandparents, Ardell and Bessie M. Locklear of Maxton.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Honeycutt. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Fisher is survived by her husband, Arbie B. Fisher of the home; seven sons, R.B. Fisher, Nathan Fisher and Jerry Fisher, all of Roseboro, Dan Fisher, Lathan Fisher and Wyman Fisher, all of Autryville, and Herman Fisher of Fayetteville; a sister, Eunice Riley of Autryville; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro and at other times at the home.
