COUNCIL -- Homer W. Drye, 84, of 851 Braddy Plantation Road died Wednesday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnnie Drye. Burial will be in Carver’s Creek Church cemetery.

Mr. Drye is survived by his wife, Evelyn Drye of the home; three daughters, Patricia Graham of Council, Katherine Monroe of Fayetteville and Maxine Simpson of Savannah, Ga.; two brothers, the Rev. Johnnie Drye of Elizabethtown and Charlie W. Maultsby of Council; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from noon to 6 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Service in Elizabethtown.

William J. Donovan

(Dated Saturday, April 17, 1999)
WEST END -- William John Donovan, 84, of West End died Tuesday.

Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mr. Donovan is survived by a daughter, Ellen Donovan of West End; two brothers, Dennis Donovan of Seattle and Jeffrey Donovan of Roanoke, Va.; two stepbrothers, Charles Acosta and Richard Acosta, both of Lakewood, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Ms. Esther M. Nye

BOLTON -- Ms. Esther Mitchell Nye, 82, of Bolton died Thursday.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Shiloh United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jack Walters. Burial will be in Carvers Creek United Methodist Church cemetery.

Ms. Nye is survived by three sons, Ervin Nye of Hallsboro, Frank Nye of Bolton and Benny Nye of Lake Waccamaw; a stepdaughter, Katie N. Meshaw of Elizabethtown; two sisters, Floretta Lanier of Denton and Flora M. Walton of High Point; a brother, William ‘‘Willie’’ Andrews of Whiteville; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKenzie Mortuary.

Mrs. Ruby W. Underwood

AUTRYVILLE -- Mrs. Ruby Williams Underwood, 73, of 1333 Leroy Autry Road died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Hall’s United Methodist Church by the Revs. Margaret Harris and Warren Barfield. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Underwood is survived by her husband, Raeford W. Underwood Sr. of the home; three sons, R.W. Underwood Jr. and Frankie Underwood, both of Stedman, and Donald Underwood of Roseboro; two sisters, Anna B. Hall of Salemburg and Pauline Faircloth of Roseboro; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Butler Funeral Home.

Charles Murphy

Charles Murphy, 62, of 200 Runway Road, Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Cunningham & Sons Mortuary.

SOUTHERN PINES -- Mrs. Flora Braswell, 87, of Southern Pines died Friday in Autumn Care Nursing Center in Raeford.

David R. Fletcher

LAURINBURG -- David Riley Fletcher, 35, of 12481 Collinwood Circle died Thursday in Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Mr. Fletcher owned Fletcher Irrigation Systems.

The funeral will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday in First United Methodist Church by the Revs. Mike Leburg, Wil Jackson and H.W. Burnside. Burial will be in Caledonia Cemetery.

Mr. Fletcher is survived by his wife, Cindy Fletcher; two sons, John Fletcher and Matthew Fletcher, both of the home; his parents, John and Sarah Fletcher of Laurinburg; and two brothers, John Fletcher III of Charlotte and Charles Fletcher of Laurinburg.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Memorials may be made to the John and Matthew Fletcher Trust Fund, care of State Employee’s Credit Union, P.O. Box 487, Laurinburg, N.C. 28353.

Roland C. Edge

ST. PAULS -- Roland C. Edge, 78, of 19981 U.S. 301 North died Friday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Mr. Edge was a member of Woodmen of the World, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a deacon at Carolina Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Pauls Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery.

Mr. Edge is survived by his wife, Annie S. Edge of St. Pauls; two daughters, Dale E. Meuntnich of St. Pauls and Georgia Shultz of Germany; two brothers, Robert Edge and Lynwood Edge, both of St. Pauls; five sisters, Myrtle Usher and Pauline Gray, both of St. Pauls, Juanita Hart of Alabama, Blanche Britt of Lumberton and Elma Anderson of Asheville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Robert E. Giddens

Mrs. Ruby N. Cline

LELAND -- Mrs. Ruby Raye Norman Cline, 86, of Leland, formerly of Roseboro, died Thursday in Brunswick Cove Nursing Center.

Mrs. Cline was a member of Roseboro United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Roseboro United Methodist Church by the Rev. Richard Blankenhorn. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Monday in St. Stephens Lutheran Church cemetery in Gold Hill. Arrangements are being announced by Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service of Wilmington.

Mrs. Cline is survived by two daughters, Norma W. Fleming of Bolivia and Janet C. Murray of Wilmington; two grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro.

Cader C. Terrell

Retired Army Col. Cader C. Terrell, 80, of 2306 Vandemere Ave., Fayetteville, died Thursday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Terrell was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. He was a member of the Retired Officer’s Association, Old Soldiers and Fayetteville Power Squadron.

The funeral willconducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church by the Revs. Ron Abrams and Martha Honaker. Burial with military honors will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Terrell is survived by his wife, Della Terrell of the home; two daughters, Judy Schatzman of Albuquerque, N.M., and Susan Larson of Toronto; a stepson, Bill Foster of Fayetteville; a brother, Robert Terrell of Macon, Ga.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1601 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, N.C. 28305.

Charlie Shipman Jr.

WHITEVILLE -- Charlie Shipman Jr., 56, of 1577 Tom Sessions Road died Thursday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Peoples Funeral Home chapel by elder Rudolph Powell. Burial will be in Welches Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Shipman is survived by two sons, Norman Shipman of Tupelo, Miss., and Charles K. Shipman of Whiteville; a stepson, Franklin A. Parker of Whiteville; his mother, Evelyn Shipman of Whiteville; eight sisters, Gracie N. George and Thelma Gaines, both of Whiteville; Essie J. Walker of Matthews, Peggy Jones-Horne of McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., Jennifer Livingston of Fairmont, Sylvia Jones of St. Matthews, S.C., Linda J. Williams of Charlotte and Saundra George of Chadbourn; and eight brothers, Odell Jones, Willie Jones, Calvin Jones Jr., Robert Jones, Johnie Jones and Daniel ‘‘Bobby’’ Jones, all of Whiteville, Curtis Jones of Connecticut and Leander ‘‘Buck’’ Shipman of Loris, S.C.

Dr. J. Cooper Howard

(Dated Saturday, April 17, 1999)
CLINTON -- Dr. J. Cooper Howard, 80, of 403 Coharie Drive died Friday in his home.

Dr. Howard was a retired general surgeon. He began practicing medicine after receiving his education from Wake Forest College and Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia. Dr. Howard practiced in Sampson County from 1953 to 1988. He served on the Board of Directors for the Sampson Crisis Center and the Advisory Board for Sampson Home Health. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Dr. Howard was also a Medical Corps veteran of World War II.

The funeral will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. James Pardue. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery.

Dr. Howard is survived by his wife, Lina W. Howard of the home; two daughters, Patricia H. Leonard of Roseboro and Penny H. Lockerman of Clinton; two sons, Joseph C. Howard III of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Richard W. Howard of Lenoir; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 408 College St., Clinton, N.C.; or to the charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Styliani K. Anagnostopoulos
Mrs. Styliani K. Anagnostopoulos, 84, of 304 Courtyard Lane, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church by the Rev. Chrysostom Manuel. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery No. 3. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Mrs. Anagnostopoulos is survived by a daughter, Elaine Hondros of the home; three sons, Andreas Anagnostopoulos and George Anagnostopoulos, both of Fayetteville, and Konstantinos Anagnostopoulos of Karpenisi, Greece; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Lula A. Harris

Mrs. Lula A. Harris, 79, of 708 Blue St., Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

RAEFORD -- Walter Thomas Malone, 80, of Raeford died March 10.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Dundarrach Community Church cemetery by the Rev. Fred Dinkins. Arrangements are being handled by Crumpler Funeral Home.

Mr. Malone is survived by his wife, Grace Malone of Dundarrach; a stepson, Andrew Hall of Huntingdon, Tenn.; and a stepdaughter, Ann Goodrich of Miami.

The family will receive friends after the service at the home of Edward and Glenda Clanton in Dundarrach.

Ms. Gracie E. Pierce

Mrs. Edwards is survived by a daughter, Marsha Godac of Aurora; a stepson, Hubert Edwards of Parkton, N.C.; two sisters, Lucille J. Odom of Fayetteville, N.C., and Maxine J. Dove of Hope Mills; and seven grandchildren.
