WEST END -- John W. Fox, 84, of 129 Overlook Drive died Sunday in FirstHealth Montgomery Hospital.

Mr. Fox was a Mason.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Seven Lakes Chapel in the Pines by the Rev. Charles Hinson. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home.

Mr. Fox is survived by his wife, Jean Fox of Seven Lakes; two sons, John W. Fox Jr. of Stockton, Calif., and William W. Fox of Bloomfield, Mich.; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Seven Lakes Emergency Medical Service, 969 Seven Lakes North, West End, N.C. 27376.

Mrs. Lola S. Skipper, 78, of 307 Barnett St., Fayetteville, is also survived by a son, William F. ‘‘Bit’’ Skipper of Fayetteville.

Mrs. Maglee M. Chapman

(Dated April 26, 1999)
PEMBROKE -- Mrs. Maglee M. Chapman, 72, of 8143 U.S. 74 West died Friday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Lumbee Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Crites Oxendine.

Mrs. Chapman is survived by her husband, James B. Chapman Sr. of the home; four sons, Vaughn Chapman of Westfield, Mass., James B. Chapman Jr. of Baltimore, Charles Chapman of Triangle, Va., and John Chapman of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Sheri Hunt of Pembroke; six brothers, Elliot Campbell, Melvin Campbell, David Campbell and Gary Campbell, all of Virginia, Irvin Campbell of California and Eddie Campbell of Fayetteville; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Timothy Carter

LILLINGTON -- Timothy Carter, 29, of 1204 N.C. 27 West died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

A private memorial service will be held today in H.M. Colvin Funeral Home in Fayetteville by the Rev. Andrew Bass.

Mr. Carter is survived by his mother, Ann Maynor of Lillington; his father, John W. Jackson of Lillington; a brother, Robert M. Holt of Baltimore; and a sister, Angela Carter of Baltimore.

Ms. Eunice M. Atkinson

HAMPSTEAD -- Ms. Eunice Morris Atkinson of 1523 Corcus Ferry Road, formerly of Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.

Ms. Atkinson retired from Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. She was a member of Person Street United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville by the Rev. James D. Bell. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

Ms. Atkinson is survived by three sons, James M. Atkinson Jr. of Maryland, John F. Atkinson of Fayetteville and Henry Atkinson of Hampstead; two brothers, Linwood Morris of Charlotte and Charles Morris of Fayetteville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hampstead United Methodist Church, 15395 N.C. 17, Hampstead, N.C. 28443.

Ms. Kate B. Goodman

CATONSVILLE, Md. -- Ms. Kate Britt Goodman, 89, of Catonsville, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Tuesday.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in First Presbyterian Church chapel. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the church parlor.

Wilbert Woods

Wilbert Woods, 74, of 4200 Davis Street, Apartment C, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The family will receive friends at the home of Valerie Sneed, 668 Stoneykirk Drive, Fayetteville.

Arrangements will be announced by Wiseman Mortuary.

Vernon Locklear

RED SPRINGS -- Vernon Locklear, 63, of 451 Singleton Road died Wednesday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Hoke County Holiness Church by the Revs. Truman Chavis and Sam Henderson. Burial will be in Bullard family cemetery.

Mr. Locklear is survived by a son, Kenny R. Locklear of Pembroke; and a sister, Lella Carter of Red Springs.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler Funeral Home.

Carl Turner

LONG BEACH -- Carl Turner, 57, of 203 N.E. 55th St. died Thursday in his home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Peacock-Newnam Funeral Home chapel in Southport by the Rev. Bob Hodges.

Among Mr. Turner’s survivors are two sisters, Lib Webb of Raeford and Connie Lewis of Dunn.

Roscoe B. Simmons

Ms. Marjorie S. Seymore

SANFORD -- Ms. Marjorie Sloan Seymore, 82, of 2708 Jefferson Davis Highway died Friday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Miller-Boles Funeral Home chapel.

Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Ms. Seymore is survived by a daughter, Beth Brown-Degon of Sanford; and a granddaughter.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Michael Saunders

TAYLORTOWN -- Michael Saunders, 44, of 171 Taylor Ave. died Tuesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Pugh Funeral Home in Southern Pines by the Rev. Leroy Payton. Burial will be in Taylortown Community Cemetery.

Mr. Saunders is survived by a brother, Darian Hall of New London, Conn.; and his stepfather, Courtland Hall of New London.

Mrs. Gertrude Ratliff

LILLINGTON -- Mrs. Gertrude Ratliff, 92, of Lillington died Monday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Payton Memorial Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Robert Tucker. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery in Durham.

Mrs. Ratliff is survived by a son, Roy L. Ratliff.

The family will receive friends today from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Harry S. Pearson

CLINTON -- Harry Stewart Pearson, 78, of 1275 E. Mount Gilead Church Road died Thursday in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

Mr. Pearson was a veteran of World War II. He was an elder in Holly Grove Presbyterian Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Holly Grove Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Patrick Winkler. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Pearson is survived by his wife, Janet G. Pearson of Clinton; two daughters, Linda Hyatt of Wilmington and Mary Arven-Harvey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister, Frances Smith of Clinton; two brothers, Ashley G. Pearson of Clinton and Lacey L. Pearson of Goldsboro; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Mrs. Maggie L. Melvin

ROSEBORO -- Mrs. Maggie Lee Melvin, 79, of 4054 Mintz Highway died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Robinson Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Barginere. Burial will be in Boone Cemetery.

Mrs. Melvin is survived by two daughters, Helen Herring of Jersey City, N.J., and Gail Newman of Clinton; a son, Billy R. Melvin of Roseboro; a brother, Prezzie Boone of Roseboro; 19 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Butler & Son Funeral Home.

Ms. Eliza C. McEwen

CLARKTON -- Ms. Eliza Cashwell McEwen, 88, of Clarkton died Friday in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Clarkton Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Simon Scott. Burial will be in McKinnon Cemetery.

Ms. McEwen is survived by a daughter, Dixie Tuton of Clarkton; a sister, Marie Collier of Whiteville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Walter A. McAllister

RAEFORD -- Walter A. McAllister, 82, of 130 Azalea Street died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. James United Church of God by elder Willie Purcell Jr. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.

Mr. McAllister is survived by his wife, Vina McAllister of Raeford; a daughter, Wilmer Lawrence of Raeford; a son, Gerald McAllister of Raeford; a sister, Mae Belle McFayden of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 11 to 9 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel.
