SOUTHERN PINES -- Hallie Craven Reaves Sr., 86, of Southern Pines died Thursday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mr. Reaves was a pharmacist and owned Reaves Drug Store in Asheboro. He was a member of Asheboro Masonic Lodge No. 669. Mr. Reaves was a Shriner.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Southern Pines United Methodist Church by the Rev. Mark Wethington. Burial with Masonic rites will be at 5 p.m. in Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mr. Reaves is survived by two sons, Hallie C. Reaves Jr. of Pinehurst and William Reaves of Seven Lakes; two daughters, Susan R. Cooper of Southern Pines and Nancy R. Crissman of Conyers, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the funeral at the church.

William H. Parker

COATS -- William H. Parker, of Russell Higgins Road died April 30 in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.

The funeral was conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Colllier’s Chapel Church in Linden by Dr. Ron Byrd. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Price Funeral Home of Erwin.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Hazel Parker of Coats;a son, Richard ‘‘Dick’’ Parker; three daughters, Burline Thompson of Raleigh, Katherine Morrison of Erwin and Melba McLemore of Spring Lake; two brothers, Jimmy Parker and Kenneth Parker, both of Dunn; seven sisters, Eloise Ammons of Benson, Estelline Honeycutt of Angier, Ruth Myers of Durham, Gail Toler of Roseville, Janice G. Bowden of Linden, Jean Ward of Willow Springs and Kay Addison of Warner Robins, Ga.; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

Ms. Lula P. Nichols

FAIRMONT -- Ms. Lula Pearl Nichols, 81, of 6355 N.C. 904 died Tuesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted Sunday in Bethlehem Apostolic Church in Lakeview, S.C. by Bishop Wallace Snow. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Ms. Nichols is survived by five sons, Larry Nichols of Jamaica, N.Y., Johnny W. Nichols of New York, Johnny Nichols of Chicago, Harold Nichols of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Willie Nichols of Fairmont; three daughters, Mary J. Nichols and Doris Nichols of Lakeview and Clara Nichols of Fairmont; and 15 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Community Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary W. Mosley

Mrs. Mary W. Mosley, 61, of 655 Monagan St., Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Wiseman Mortuary.

Luther E. Miller

SANFORD -- Luther E. Miller, 51, of 2777 Henley Road died Thursday in Central Carolina Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in Casey Chapel in St. Luke United Methodist Church by the Revs. Paul Leeland and Judy Drye. Burial will be in Center United Methodist Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Joyce G. Miller of Sanford; a daughter, Stacie G. Miller of Sanford; a son, Gregory C. Miller of Sanford; his father, Raymond F. Miller Jr. of Lancaster, Ohio; three sisters, Leigh Miller of Lancaster, Linda Landis of Aiken, S.C., and Lizabeth M. Richards of Cincinnati; and a brother, Lowell Miller of Lancaster.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Mrs. Helen S. Mebane

Mrs. Helen S. Mebane, 83, of 5206 Madonna Drive, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Peace Memorial Christian Church by Bishop F.J. Matthews. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mebane is survived by two daughters, Juanita Farr of West Chester, Pa., and Shirley Mebane-Milanez of Washington, D.C.; two sons, John Mebane Jr. and Donald L. Mebane, both of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Miss Alyssa Lowry

(Dated May 8, 1999)
Miss Alyssa Lowry, infant daughter of Michael and Shirley Lowry, of 572 University Road, Spring Lake, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Deep Branch Baptist Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Revels Funeral Home.

In addition to her parents, Alyssa is survived by a brother, Terry Lowry of the home; her maternal grandmother, Helen Bullard of Laruinburg; her paternal grandmother, Shelby Lowry of Pembroke; and her maternal great-grandmother, Alice Sneeds of Pembroke.

William C. Leach Sr.

William Charles Leach Sr., 79, of 3005 Stoney Court, Fayetteville, died Friday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Mr. Leach was an Army veteran of World War II.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. David Clewis. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Leach is survived by a son, Bobby Jackson of Sanford; and seven daughters, Patrica Ray, Bernice Baker and Jean Duttlinger, all of Fayetteville, Beverly Williamson of Lumberton, Fay Kuhn of St. Pauls, Diane Hill of Anderson and Kathy Brewington of Dunn; a sister, Georgia Smith of New Hamspshire; two brothers, Eddie Leach and Donald Leach, both of Fryeburg, Maine; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Troy H. LaValley

SANFORD -- Troy Hampton LaValley, 5, of 2741 Valley Road died Friday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Wallace Chapel at Saint Pauls Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. in Oakridge Cemetery in St. Pauls by the Rev. David Hodge.

Troy is survived by his parents, John and Rebecca LaValley Jr. of Sanford; a brother, John LaValley III of the home; and his grandparents, Wade and Rose Anderson of St. Pauls, John LaValley Sr. of Massachusetts and Judith Summers of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

John W. Knox Sr.

John W. Knox Sr., 72, of 1435 Garner St., Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mount Hebrew AME Zion Church by Dr. T.R. Jones Jr. Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Mr. Knox is survived by his wife, Ella J. Knox of the home; six sons, John W. Knox Jr., Douglas W. Knox, Bruce E. Knox and Stephen D. Knox, all of Fayetteville, Gary L. Knox of the home and Brian K. Knox of Tillery; a foster daughter, Roberta Campbell of Fayetteville; a sister, Eliza Currie of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jacobs is survived by seven sons, Johnny Jacobs, Kenny Jacobs and Jeffrey Jacobs, all of Maxton, Arlie Jacobs and Benjy Jacobs, both of Red Springs, Don D. Jacobs of Rex, and Ricky Jacobs of Wilson; a daughter, Lynette Jacobs of Pembroke; two brothers, Zack Chavis of Red Springs and Wade Chavis of Maxton; two sisters, Viler J. Chavis of Red Springs and Minnie P. Bullard of Maxton; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Crupper of Camp Zama, Japan; seven sisters, Rena M. Williams of Godwin, Louise Ford and Carolyn J. Brewington, both of Fayetteville, Linda F. James of Columbus, Ga., and Janice Crawford, Deborah A. Jackson and Vickie Jackson, all of Richmond, Va.; and five brothers, John W. Jackson Jr., Dennis L. Jackson and Ricky L. Jackson, all of Fayetteville, Larry D. Jackson of Richmond and Staff Sgt. Abner M. Jackson of Hope Mills.

The public will be received today from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. George is survived by a son, Franklin O. George of Colon; four brothers, Ralph Holt of High Point and, Odell Holt, Edward Holt and W.W. Holt Jr., all of Deep River; two sisters, Leola H. Riggsbee of Durham and Ruth H. Morrison of Deep River; a grandson; two step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Ms. Chavis was a homemaker. She was a member of Gray Pond Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Gray Pond Baptist Church by the Revs. Lindberg Chavis and Jimmy Strickland. Burial will be in Stewartsville Cemetery.

Ms. Chavis is survived by five sons, James V. Chavis, Fadrick Chavis, A.B. Chavis and Hearl Chavis, all of Laurinburg, and Ederson E. Chavis of Laurel Hill; three daughters, Lee E. Chavis and Sarah C. Usher, both of Laurinburg, and Arrie C. Clark of Reidsville; a sister, Susanna Harrington of Darlington, S.C.; 34 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
