CARTHAGE -- Vernon C. Oldham, 76, of Putnam-Glendon Road died Saturday in his home.

Mr. Oldham was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked for Carthage Fabrics Corp. before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Putnam Friends Church by the Revs. Ernest Moore, D.L. Hussey and Billy J. Brady. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Oldham is survived by three daughters, Brenda Upchurch of High Falls and Gail Oldham-Allmon and Pam O. Brady, both of Carthage; a sister, Susie Stutts of Robbins; three brothers, Jessie Oldham and Kelly Oldham, both of Carthage, and Pete Oldham of Glendon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Fry & Prickett Funeral Home.

Ms. Addie B. Williams

Ms. Addie B. Williams, 90, of Fayetteville died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Ms. Williams was a member of Judson Missionary Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today in Judson Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Herndon. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Ms. Williams is survived by four sisters, Mabel West, Sarah K. Williams, Debrue Truelove and Eva D. Sessoms, all of Fayetteville.

Fred W. Nunnery

Fred W. Nunnery, 89, of Route 2, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Bethesda Health Care.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Tabor United Methodist Church by Dr. Milton Little. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Butler Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.

Ms. Lula P. Nichols

FAIRMONT -- Ms. Lula Pearl Nichols, 81, of 6355 N.C. 904 died Tuesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Bethlehem Apostolic Church in Lakeview, S.C. by Bishop Wallace Snow. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Community Funeral Home.

Ms. Nichols is survived by five sons, Larry Nichols of Jamaica, N.Y., Johnny W. Nichols of New York, Johnny Nichols of Chicago, Harold Nichols of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Willie Nichols of Fairmont; three daughters, Mary J. Nichols and Doris Nichols of Lakeview and Clara Nichols of Fairmont; and 15 grandchildren.

Mrs. Veoga M. Murphy

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Mrs. Veoga M. Murphy, 76, of 119 Somers St., formerly of Rowland, N.C., died Friday in her home.

Arrangements will be announced by Jackson Funeral Home.

Miss Tabitha D. Moore

NEW BERN -- Miss Tabitha Dawn Moore, 17, of Howell’s Child Care Center died Friday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel in Benson by the Revs. Condary Ellis and Jerome Pope. Burial will be in Veterans Cemetery in Dunn.

Miss Moore is survived by her mother and stepfather, Ruth and Tim Raines of Benson; her father and stepmother, Ronnie and Betty P. Moore of Fuquay-Varina; a sister, Heather Raines of Benson; her maternal grandparents, James and Betty Herron of Greensboro; and her paternal grandparents, Doris Moore and Bobby Byrd, both of Dunn.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Ronnie and Betty Moore, 3463 Rawls Church Road, Fuquay-Varina.

LUMBERTON -- Willie James Locklear, 58, of 176 Rozier Church Road died Friday in his home.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the home. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Mr. Locklear is survived by two sons, Howard Locklear and Dale Locklear, both of Lumberton; a daugher, Leslie Locklear of Greensboro; two brothers, Homer Locklear of Pembroke and William D. Locklear of Red Springs; a sister, Mary E. Brooks of Lumberton; and a grandchild.

Miss Mary F. Jones, 56, of 419 Mike St., Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Carl Brinkley. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park.

Miss Jones is survived by six sisters, Veronica Carter, Alice Smith, Winona Gilmore and Priscilla Perry, all of Fayetteville, Yvonne Thomas of Columbus, Ohio, and Maggie Harris of Washington, D.C.; and a brother, Joseph James of Fayetteville.

The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

WEST END -- Howard Harris Sr., 82, of 735 N.C. 73 died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Peter’s United Church of God by Bishop C.L. Curry. Burial will be in Eastwood Community Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Kendrick Funeral Home.

Mr. Harris is survived by five daughters, Elsie Brown of Taylortown, Bessie Dixon and Vickie Kelly, both of Hoffman, Rena Covington of Eastwood and Faye Gilmore of Carthage; three sons, Howard Harris Jr. of Carthage, Renalton Harris of Pinehurst and Benjamin Harris of Eastwood; seven sisters, Ella M. Miller, Vivian Brown and Francis Bouvair, all of Connecticut, Gussie Roundtree of New York, Elizabeth Alston of Eastwood, Georgia Barrett of Southern Pines and Dorothy Phillips of Carthage; five brothers, James Harris, Dallas Harris, Percy Harris, Walter Harris and Curtis Harris, all of Connecticut; 31 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the church.Mrs. Shelby J. Chavis ROWLAND -- Mrs. Shelby Jean Chavis, 62, of 6713 N.C. 74 West died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church in Pembroke by the Revs. Chris Rooks, John Pollard and Billy J. Brady. Burial will be in St. Annah Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Revels Funeral Home.

Mrs. Chavis is survived by her husband, Early Chavis of the home; a daughter, Lenora Lash of Advance; a son, Derrick Chavis of Rowland; her mother, Hattie B. Canady of Lumberton; a sister, Irene Thomas of Pennsylvania; a brother, Eugene Canady of Lumberton; a granddaughter; and a great-grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight beginning at 6 p.m. at Mount Olive Pentecostal Holiness Church.

IVANHOE -- Mrs. Christine Pridgen Bullard, 60, of 345 Ennis Bridge Road died Friday in N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Mrs. Bullard was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Harmony Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Bob Swartz. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bullard is survived by her husband, Renise Bullard of the home; a daughter, Anita Gurganus of Rowan; a son, Bruce Bullard of Rocky Point; a sister, Doris Pridgen of Ivanhoe; two brothers, Billy Pridgen of Harrells and Allen Pridgen of Spring Lake; and two grandchildren.

ROWLAND -- John Bullard Jr., 76, of Route 3 died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Mr. Bullard is surivived by a daughter, Bobbie J. Bullard of Philadelphia; two sisters, Martha Armstrong of Durham and Juanita Faulk of Hempstead, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The public will be received Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Jackson Funeral Home chapel.

Clayton W. Brooks

LAURINBURG -- Clayton White Brooks of 12721 Blues Farm Road died Saturday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Brooks was a member of First Baptist Church. He was the owner and operator of Brooks Super Market.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Lawrence B. Coleman. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife, Gertrude B. Brooks of the home; two daughters, Barbara B. Mudd of Marston and Betty B. Holt of Greensboro; two sons, Thomas W. Brooks of Florence, S.C., and Clayton W. Brooks Jr. of Laurinburg; two brothers, Brady Brooks of Marion and Benny Brooks of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Mildred Duggar of Pinebluff; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Mrs. Emma H. Britt

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Emma Lou Herring Britt, 78, of 2096 N. Broadridge Road died Saturday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Britt was a member of Broadridge Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Broadridge Baptist Church by the Revs. John S. Herman, LeRoy Burke and Doug Worley. Burial will be in the Britt family cemetery.

Mrs. Britt is survived by four sons, Donald N. Britt, William F. Britt and Terry J. Britt, all of Lumberton, and Davy L. Britt of Proctorville; four daughters, Joyce B. Joyner of Middlesex, Lucille B. Bober of Raleigh, Dianne B. Bennett of Lumberton and Nancy B. Britt of Proctorville; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Briggs Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
