RAEFORD -- James N. ‘‘Jim’’ Maxwell Sr., 78, of 310 E. Elwood Ave. died Saturday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mr. Maxwell was a member of Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Maxwell was a farm equipment dealer in Red Springs.
The funeral will be conducted at 5 p.m. Monday in Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church by the Rev. John C. Ropp. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Maxwell is survived by his wife, Sarah E. Maxwell of Raeford; a son, Jimmy Maxwell of Dundarrach; two daughters, Sally L. Ivey of Mebane and Mary M. Barnett of Rockingham; three brothers, Robert Maxwell of Fayetteville, John Maxwell of Raeford and Malcom Maxwell of Ayden; two sisters, Marion Clark of Raeford and Geraldine Adams of Lumberton; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7:30 to 9 at Crumpler Funeral Home.

Mrs. Anna D. Chavis (Dated Sunday, July 25, 1999)
ROWLAND -- Mrs. Anna Demery Chavis, 64, of 2323 W. Dew Road died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Floyd Memorial Chapel by the Revs. Phyliss Bollinger, Beler Resinger, Keith Hunt and Earl Chavis. Burial will be in Raynham Indian Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.
Mrs. Chavis is survived by her husband, Claude Chavis of the home; a son, James R. Chavis of Lumberton; a daughter, Virginia M. Register of Rowland; a brother, Jessie Demery of Rowland; two sisters, Alice Hunt and Delorise Demery, both of Lumberton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Ms. Mildred H. Shipp (Dated Sunday, July 25, 1999)
CLINTON -- Ms. Mildred H. Shipp, 83, of 301 Stetson St. died Friday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Shipp owned and operated Shipp’s Grocery Store. She was a member of First Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church by Dr. Darden Battle. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery.
Ms. Shipp is survived by four daughters, Jaunita G. Warner and Ida K. Owens, both of Clinton, Wanza F. Bulluck of Rocky Mount and Gloria J. Maynard of Harrells; a son, Jimmy D. Shipp of Clinton; three sisters, Annie R. McDonald of Massachusetts, Frances Meeks of Eden and Ethel Martin of Wrightsville Beach; a brother, Tommy Hubbard of Wilmington; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

ROWLAND -- Ms. Mary McNair, 81, of U.S. 301 North died Friday in Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Ms. McNair is survived by three sons, Albert McNair of Trenton, N.J., and Charlie McNair and Harold McNair, both of Greensboro; a daughter, Delois McNeill of Little Rock, S.C.; a brother, Bruce McNair of Rowland; two sisters, Callie B. McNair of Rowland and Lois Lamper of Washington, D.C.; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Riddle was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rockingham.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford by the Rev. Robert Flynn.
Mr. Riddle is survived by a brother, Robert C. ‘‘Bob’’ Riddle of Asheboro.
