SPRING LAKE -- Paul Franklin Schoate, 68, of 106 New St. died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Mr. Schoate was a retired farmer and painter. He was a member of the Tennessee National Guard.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Adcock Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Harvey L. Cashwell.

Mr. Schoate is survived by six sisters, Ruby L. Moon of Spring Lake, Mary Wilson, Betty Pack, Bonnie McQuaid and Judy, all of Huntsville, Ala., and Emilou of Lexington, Ky.; and a brother, Donald Schoate of Huntsville.

Mrs. Ludy M. Pate

ST. PAULS -- Mrs. Ludy M. Pate, 86, of 321 W. Clark St. died Tuesday in her home.

Arrangements will be announced by Saint Pauls Funeral Home.

James M. Patterson

RED SPRINGS -- James M. Patterson, 52, of 3738 Blue Springs Road died Saturday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Millside Holiness Church by the Revs. Oris McPhatter, W.K. Mitchell and S. Norman. Burial will be in Silver Grove Community Cemetery in Raeford.

Mr. Patterson is survived by a son, Charles Andrews of Red Springs; five daughters, Barbara McDonald of Fayetteville, Chaucre McRae of Baltimore and Mary Monroe, Ladonia Scott and Jackie McDaniel, all of Red Springs; and his mother, Ruth Patterson of Red Springs.

The public will be received today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Doby Funeral Home. Joseph R. Parrish BENSON -- Joseph Rupert Parrish, 77, of 1469 Johnston County Road died Tuesday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

Mr. Parrish was a farmer. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Ebenzer Presbyterian Church, American Legion Banner Post No. 109, Angier Masonic Lodge No. 686, the Scottish Rites and the Amran Shriners. Mr. Parrish was a 32nd degree Mason.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Ebenezer Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Warren Bock. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Devotional Gardens in Dunn.

Mr. Parrish is survived by his wife, Christine A. Parrish; three sons, Ronnie Parrish and Dwight Parrish, both of Angier, and Keith Parrish of Benson; a stepson, Stewart Akerman of Seattle; three sisters, Rebeth Mitchell and Joyce Carter, both of Angier, and Marva Whittington of Garner; a twin brother, Raeford Parrish of Angier; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, care of Juanita Hudson, 2981 Ebenezer Church Road, Benson, N.C. 27504.

Ms. Edith W. McMillan

RED SPRINGS -- Ms. Edith W. McMillan, 85, of 106 Taylor St. died Tuesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Alloway Cemetery by the Rev. Stan Smith.

Ms. McMillan is survived by a son, Charles McIntyre of Lumberton; a daughter, Ann M. Britt of Ocean Isle Beach; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Robeson, 2002 N. Cedar St., Lumberton, N.C. 28358.

Ms. Myrtle A. McKay

WEST END -- Ms. Myrtle A. McKay, 97, of 108 Amberwood Court died Monday in St. Joseph of the Pines.

Ms. McKay was a nurse.

The funeral will be conducted Friday in Holden, Mass. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery in Holden. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home of Seven Lakes.

Ms. McKay is survived by a son, Robert B. McKay of North Troy, Vt.; a daughter, Janel M. Carlson of West End; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lester ‘Handy’ Locklear
RED SPRINGS -- Lester ‘‘Handy’’ Locklear, 73, of 107 Lewis McNeill Road died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

A graveside service was conducted at 4 p.m. Monday in Oxendine Cemetery by the Rev. Gary Strickland. Arrangements were handled by Locklear & Son Funeral Home of Pembroke.

Mr. Locklear is survived by two brothers, Lewis Locklear of Red Springs and Gerald Locklear of Baltimore; and three sisters, Mary F. Locklear of Pembroke, Evelyn Emanuel of Lumberton and Helen Chavis of Fayetteville.

Miss Alice Leonard

Miss Alice Leonard, 100, of 512 Scarborough St., Fayetteville, died Monday in Village Green Nursing Center.

Ms. Cox is survived by a son, Johnnie Cox of Elizabethtown; a stepdaughter, Sylvia A. Jacobs of Elizabethtown; and three stepsons, Terry W. Jacobs of Ruby, S.C., and Charles A. Jacobs and Edward H. Jacobs, both of Elizabethtown.

Mrs. Geraldine S. Capps

BLENHEIM, S.C. -- Mrs. Geraldine Stanley Capps, 64, of Blenheim, formerly of Elizabethtown, N.C., died Monday in Marlboro Park Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Whitner-Evans Funeral Home.

Mrs. Capps is survived by her husband, Henry S. Capps Jr. of Blenheim; a daughter, Nancy H. Turner of Newark, Del.; a son, Murray Hoskins of West Columbia; and her mother, Annie L. Stanley of Bennettsville.

Johnnie T. Bryant

NEWTON GROVE -- Johnnie T. Bryant, 87, 12961 Hobbton Highway died Thursday in Sunrise Nursing Home in Mount Olive.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in White Oak Disciples of Christ Church by the Rev. Charles J. Williams. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Dafford Funeral Home of Dunn.

Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Mary O. Bryant of Highland Park, Mich.; seven sons, Kenneth Bryant of Newton Grove, James O. Bryant of Detroit, William C. Bryant, David G. Bryant, Paul H. Bryant and Henry E. Bryant, all of Highland Park, and Johnnie G. Bryant of Battle Creek, Mich.; a daughter, Louise Bryant of Highland Park; a sister, Elouise B. King of Detroit; 16 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 25 step-great-grandchildren.

The public will be received Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church.

James C. Braddy

COUNCIL -- James Clark Braddy, 63, of Council died Monday in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Mr. Braddy was a Navy veteran. He was a retired farmer.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in Carvers Creek United Methodist Church by the Revs. Jim Bartlett and Jim Hines. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Kinlaw Funeral Home.

Mr. Braddy is survived by his wife, Patsy P. Braddy of Council; a daughter, R.B. ‘‘Amy’’ Stephens of Council; three brothers, Calvin Edwards of Goldsboro and Joe Edwards and Stephen Edwards, both of Tennessee; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Carvers Creek United Methodist Church cemetery fund.

Ledrew Boone

HALLSBORO -- Ledrew Boone of 1133 Giles Byrd Road died Monday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Hebron AME Zion Church by the Rev. William Ballard. Burial will be in Mount Hebron Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Mr. Boone is survived by his wife, Joyce F. Boone; two daughters, Rolene Williamson of Clinton and Cynthia Boone of Washington; four sons, Dale Boone, Michael Boone, Wayne Boone and Craig Boone, all of Hallsboro; three sisters, Novella Faison of Whiteville, Thelma Murphy of Bridgeport, Conn., and Jane Freeman of Hallsboro; and two brothers, Fred Boone of Whiteville and Thomas Boone of Conway, S.C.

Billie ‘Bill‘ Smith Jr.
SANFORD -- Billie ‘‘Bill’’ Smith Jr., 69, of 1116 Hawkins Ave. died Tuesday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Cool Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Ira Sutton. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith is survived by two daughters, Darlene S. Powers of Apex and Mary E. ‘‘Mickie’’ Neria of Anaheim, Calif.; and a sister, Lola S. Pyrtle of Richmond, Va.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.
