J. Leon Godwin (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

DUNN -- J. Leon Godwin, 87, of Dunn died Tuesday in Harnett Manor Nursing Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Dunn by Dr. Karl Minor and the Rev. Warren Johnson. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Godwin is survived by his wife, Mae Jackson of Dunn; two sons, J. Leon ‘‘Buddy’’ Godwin Jr. and Joe H. Godwin, both of Dunn; two daughters, Frances G. Godwin of Rockingham and Dale G. Phillips of Dunn; three sisters, Ethel G. Wade, Annie Morgan and Polly Norris, all of Dunn; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Skinner Funeral Home.

Lydia M. Fisher (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

Mrs. Lydia M. Fisher, 89, of Fayetteville died in Texas.

Mrs. Fisher was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church and Order of the Eastern Star.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Post Cemetery on Fort Bragg by the Rev. Leighton McKeithen. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Mrs. Fisher is survived by a son, Harold Fisher of Bryan, Texas; a brother, Fredrick Stanton of Florida; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Josephine Douglas (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

SOUTHERN PINES -- Ms. Josephine Douglas, 86, of Southern Pines died Saturday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Pentecostal Assembly of Jesus Christ by the Rev. Roy McKoy. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Ms. Douglas is survived by a daughter, Helen Douglas of Southern Pines; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Pugh Funeral Home.

Kayla A. Davis (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

SPRING LAKE -- Miss Kayla Ann Davis, 14, of 350 Sierra Trail died Saturday.

Kayla was a ninth grade student at Western Harnett High School. She was a varsity cheerleader and a member of the Beta Club and the school chorus. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Liberty Baptist Church by the Revs. Craig Conner, Kevin Hartman and Sam Harvin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Kayla is survived by her mother and stepfather, Sher’rie L. and Charles G. Handy of Spring Lake; her father, Kenneth B. Davis of Aurora, Colo.; a sister, Charis N. Davis of Spring Lake; three brothers, Corey N. Stotts of Spring Lake, and Kenneth Davis Jr. and Brent Davis, both of Aurora; her maternal grandmother, Karen Stotts of Columbia, S.C.; her maternal great-grandmother, Nina Kerney of Columbia; her paternal grandparents, William and Helen Henry of Aurora and Gilbert and Laura Handy of Gloucester, Va.; and her paternal grandfather, Walt Davis of Aurora.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Adcock Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Kayla A. Davis memorial fund, care of Liberty Baptist Church, 1625 Ray Road, Spring Lake, N.C. 28390.

Milford L. Darden (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

FAISON -- Milford L. Darden, 41, of 254 Juniper Road died Monday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Arrangements will be announced by Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Debra B. Caulder (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

HOPE MILLS -- Mrs. Debra Blackwood Caulder, 41, of 6102 Brandywood Circle died Monday.

Mrs. Caulder was a dental assistant on Fort Bragg.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Southview Baptist Church by the Rev. Phillip Stamm. Burial will be in Hope Mills Cemetery.

Mrs. Caulder is survived by her husband, Darrell Caulder of the home; two sons, Steven Caulder and Brian Caulder, both of the home; and her parents, Lewis and Diana Blackwood of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Hamilton-Porter Funeral Home.

Morris T. Burke (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

Morris Thomas Burke, 57, of 134 Willis Circle, Fayetteville, died Sept. 13 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Burke was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. Arrangements are being handled by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.

Mr. Burke is survived by three brothers, Ira Burke of Earleton, Fla., and Samuel Burke and Bill Burke, both of Hager Hill, Ky.

Thomas W. Bullock (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

Thomas Worthy Bullock, 84, of 135 John St., Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Celia L. Buckley (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

RAEFORD -- Mrs. Celia L. Buckley, 84, of Raeford died Monday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.

Arrangements will be announced by Crumpler Funeral Home.

William G. Bryant (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

MAXTON -- William Gillespie Bryant, 37, of 1212 Island Grove Church Road died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Revels Funeral Home chapel in Pembroke by the Rev. Kent Chavis. Burial will be in New Prospect Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Bryant is survived by his father, Nolan Bryant Jr. of Maxton; two brothers, Gregory Bryant of Pembroke and Dwayne Bryant of Cullawhee; and two sisters, Kimberly Owens of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and Carolyn Jacobs of Maxton.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Inez Brown (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

Mrs. Inez Brown, 76, of 523 County Club Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Whispering Pines Nursing Home.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Smith Chapel Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Elijah Fulcher III. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery No. 4.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Albert Brown of Fayetteville.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Alfred C. Brewington (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

Alfred C. Brewington, 84, of 4234 Camden Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Robert E. Blair (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

Robert E. Blair, 69, of 5709 Dobson St., Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

A prayer service will be held at 7:30 tonight in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel by Chaplain Roy Hill. Burial will be in Family Cemetery in Gate City, Va.

Mr. Blair is survived by Martha Nugent of Fayetteville; a daughter, Patricia Gosnell of Greenville, Tenn.; his father, Robert L. Blair of Gate City; a sister, Inez Elliott of Gate City; three brothers, Ernest Blair and Emerson Blair, both of Gate City, and Wallace Blair of Kingsford, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Mario V. Bethea (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

ERWIN -- Mario Vincent Bethea, 18, of 509 West E Street died Sunday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Cape Fear Conference A Headquarters Facility. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Dunn.

Mr. Bethea is survived by his father, Michael L. Bethea of the home; his mother, Suzanne M. Bethea of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Michael Bethea Jr. of El Paso and Marcus Bethea of Asheville; his maternal grandparents, Jose and Rose Castillo of El Paso; and his paternal grandmother, Arnetha Bethea of Dunn.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7:30 to 8:30 at Dafford Funeral Home in Dunn.

Hubert O. Batten (Dated Wednesday, October 13, 1999 )

CLARKTON -- Hubert Olen Batten, 74, of 269 Greens Mill Road died Monday in Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in New Center Baptist Church by the Rev. George Langley and Chaplain Jim Maudlin. Burial will be in Western Prong Cemetery in Whiteville.

Mr. Batten is survived by his wife, Hilda Batten of the home; three sons, Glenn Batten of Kinston, Jeffery Batten of Clarkton and Olen Batten of Whiteville; two daughters, Mona Batten of Clarkton and Karen Palmer of Whiteville; a brother, Raymond Batten of Clarkton; two sisters, Eunice Singletary of Clarkton and Leona Britt of Orrum; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Lewis-Bowen Funeral Home in Bladenboro.
