SOUTHERN PINES -- David F. Walton, 79, of Southern Pines died Tuesday in his home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Powell Funeral Home chapel by Father James Butler.

Mr. Walton is survived by his wife, Dorothy Walton of Southern Pines; a daughter, Judith W. Bellassa of Washington, D.C.; two sons, David R. Walton of Pleasantville, N.Y., and Robert F. Walton of Kisco, N.Y.; a sister, Lorraine Crowley of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Richard Walton of Baltimore; and three granddaughters.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to FirstHealth Hospice, 5 Aviemore Drive, P.O. Box 1956, Pinehurst, N.C. 28370.

Michael R. Stocker (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

Michael Reeves Stocker, 2, of 107 Daniels Court, Fort Bragg, died Sunday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today in JFK Chapel on Fort Bragg by Chaplain Daniel S. Oh. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Arrangements are being handled by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory of Fayetteville.

Michael is survived by his parents, Capt. Adrian and Karen Stocker; a brother, Andrew C. Stocker of the home; a sister, Megan E. Stocker of the home; his paternal grandmother, Marge Stocker of Marshall, Va.; his maternal grandparents, John and Margie Reeves of Las Vegas; and his maternal great-grandmothers, Catherine McCarthy of San Jacinto, Calif., and Elsie Reeves of Boulder City, N.V.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

E. Pannie Smith (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

DUNN -- E. Pannie Smith, 68, of Dunn died Monday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

Mr. Smith was the owner and operator of Hospital Pharmacy. He was the associate pastor of Cumberland Street Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cumberland Street Baptist Church by the Revs. James DeLuca Jr. and Paul Morris. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Nell Smith of Dunn; two daughters, Deborah McStoots of Angier and Denise Pope of Dunn; two brothers, Roger Smith of Angier and Johnny Smith of Virginia; three sisters, Clara Dorman of Angier, Gerry Stephenson of Willow Spring and Myrtle Carpenter of Nashville; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Skinner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Carlton Chapel Church in Warsaw or to Colliers Chapel Baptist Church, Route 1, Linden, N.C. 28356.

Troy Rhodes Jr. (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

NEWARK, N.J. -- Troy Rhodes Jr., 53, of Newark, formerly of St. Pauls, N.C., died Sunday.

Arrangements will be announced by McKoy & Sons Mortuary of St. Pauls.

Crawford Oxendine (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

LUMBERTON -- Crawford Oxendine, 75, of 1047 Pleasant Hope Road died Tuesday.

Arrangements will be announced by Floyd Funeral Services of Fairmont.

Johnnie Melvin (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

Johnnie Melvin, 97, of 3371 McKinnon Road, Fayetteville, died Saturday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Greater First Baptist Church of Cedar Creek by Pastor N.P. Brodie. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Melvin is survived by a brother, James V. McNeill of Fayetteville.

The public will be received today from 2 to 7 p.m. at H.M. Colvin Funeral Home.

Annie H. Maultsby (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

COUNCIL -- Mrs. Annie H. Maultsby, 73, of 887 Hunting Club Road died Monday.

Arrangements will be announced by Johnson’s Funeral Service of Elizabethtown.

Bobby Lewis (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

LUMBERTON -- Bobby Lewis, 56, of 218 Little Rod Road died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Arrangements will be announced by Floyd Funeral Services of Fairmont.

William D. Leonard (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

ST. PAULS -- William Daniel Leonard, 55, of 1058 Britt Road died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Elder Alice Glover will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Thursday in Mount Zion Holiness Church. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

Mr. Leonard is survived by his wife, Joan Lennon of the home; two daughters, Joette Glover of Lumberton and Kara McEachern of St. Pauls; four sons, Harry Glover of Red Springs, Micheal Glover and Craig Glover, both of St. Pauls, and Daryl Glover of the home; his mother, Lexie Lennon of St. Pauls; two sisters, Dorothy A. Lennon and Louise Bain, both of St. Pauls; and two brothers, Charles Lennon and Douglas Lennon, both of St. Pauls.

The public will be received today from 1 to 6 p.m. at McKoy & Sons Mortuary.

Jessie M. Lee (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

DUNN -- Miss Jessie M. Lee, 83, of Dunn died Tuesday.

Arrangements will be announced by Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.

Bobby R. Lane (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

WHITEVILLE -- Bobby Ray Lane, 19, of 5064 Gores Trailer Road died Saturday in Columbus County Hospital.

Mr. Lane was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lebanon United Methodist Church by the Rev. Berry Drum. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tabor City.

Mr. Lane is survived by his parents, Grady and Hazel C. Lane of Whiteville; two sisters, Bonnie F. Lowery and Kathleen L. McMillian, both of Whiteville; and three brothers, Thomas J. Lane and Grady L. Lane, both of Whiteville, and Raymond E. Lane of Latta, S.C.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKenzie Mortuary.

Ralph R. Kurtz (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Ralph Robert Kurtz, 68, of 515 Glen Canyon Drive, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Highland Funeral Service & Crematory by the Revs. Ron Liggins and Doug Peterson. Burial with military honors will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Kurtz is survived by his wife, Luise E. Kurtz; a son, Donald R. Kurtz of Fayetteville; his mother, Doris L. Kurtz of Olathe, Kan.; and three sisters, Patricia Martin of Olathe, Carolyn McCorkendale of Shawnee, Kan., and Karen Kite of Hiran, Tenn.

The family will receive friends at the home.

John M. Ivey (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

John Monroe Ivey, 52, of 2422 Gumwood Drive, Fayetteville, died Monday.

Mr. Ivey was the owner of John Ivey Surveying.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Lakedale Church of God by the Rev. Kenneth Byrd.

Mr. Ivey is survived by his wife, Janice Ivey; a son, Shane Ivey of the home; a daughter, Jenna Ivey of the home; his parents, David and Annie Scott of Fayetteville; a brother, David R. Ivey Jr. of Lumber Bridge; and a sister, Elizabeth A. Cook of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills.

Memorials may be made to Lakedale Church of God, 2211 Southern Ave., Fayetteville, N.C.; or to the John Ivey Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 449, Hope Mills, N.C.

Harriet G. Hemingway (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

TABOR CITY -- Mrs. Harriet Gayle Hemingway, 42, of Tabor City died Sunday in Loris Community Hospital in Loris, S.C.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. C.W. Joyner and Bishop Anthony Gerald. Burial will be in Columbus County Singing Union Cemetery.

Mrs. Hemingway is survived by a daughter, Shunika L. Hemingway of Durham; two sons, Yusef L. Hemingway and Terrance K. Rowell, both of Tabor City; her parents, Elease Devoe and Calvin Hemingway; two sisters, Almaria F. Stephens and Priscilla Hemingway; two brothers, Danny Hemingway and Willie S. Bellamy; and a grandson.

The public will be received today from noon to 8 p.m. at Westside Funeral Home.

Donald W. Havener (Dated Wednesday, November 10, 1999 )

Donald William Havener, 86, of Fayetteville died Monday in Bethesda Nursing Home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. T.J. Fulk.

Mr. Havener is survived by his wife, Shirley F. Havener of Wade; five sons, Robert Havener of Sherman, Texas, Floyd Havener of Pottsboro, Texas, Bruce Havener of Syracuse, N.Y., Robin C. Havener of Wilmington and Chris S Havener of Wade; seven daughters, Phillis Havener of Pottsboro, Betty Havener of Albany, N.Y., Bambi L. Havener of Franklin, Ohio, Kim E. Havener of Guam, Amy-Jo Havener of Wade, Betty-Jo Havener of Nashville, Tenn., and Billy-Jo Havener of Pleasanthill, Mo.; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.
