DUNN -- S. Lance Knox, 30, of 710 W. Divine St. died Tuesday.
Mr. Knox was a building contractor.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Divine Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. James Summey. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.
Mr. Knox is survived by his father, Jackie Knox of Rockingham; his mother and stepfather, Dianna W. and Jerry Callahan of Dunn; a sister, Laura K. Brewer of Dunn; a stepsister, Deanna Callahan of Dunn; and his maternal grandmother, Mildred Whitley of Rockingham.

LUMBERTON -- Ms. Mary Ellen Hunt, 86, of 3124 N.C. 711, Lot 27, died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Benson’s Chapel. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Ms. Hunt is survived by two daughters, Sallie M. Hunt and Sara McIntyre, both of Lumberton; a son, James S. ‘‘Croaker’’ Hunt of Lumberton; a sister, Ila M. Chavis of Rowland; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband, Johnie G. Hughes Jr. of the home; two sons, Sgt. Timothy L. Hughes and Johnie Q. Hughes III, both of Fayetteville; two daughters, Manwella I. Hughes of Fayetteville and Nicole G. Hughes of the home; her mother, Estelle D. Walton of Fayetteville; a sister, Eva Moore of Fayetteville; a brother, Eddie Devone of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren.

LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Beulah Hines, 81, of 1337 Woodlawn Drive died Monday.

Mrs. Hines is survived by a son, Henry L. McGirt of Paterson, N.J.; three daughters, Mildred Proctor of Paterson and Iris Ross and Carolyn Smith, both of Laurinburg; a brother, Alexander Smith of Laurinburg; 11 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

James Hester of Conway, Clyde Hester of Burgaw and Nelson Hester of Greenville; a sister, Marie Narron of Greenville; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Grooms is survived by her husband, Willie H. Grooms of the home; a son, Willie H. Grooms Jr. of Gibson; two daughters, Patsy G. Peele of Laurinburg and Patty G. Grooms of Laurel Hill; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edens of Raleigh and Aubrey Jones and Terry Simmons, both of Dunn; four sisters, Mildred Fowler of Raleigh, Ruth H. Jackson and Ruby Tart, both of Dunn, and Rachel Saxton of Fayetteville; two brothers, James McLeod and Cleon McLeod, both of Dunn; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

John Samuel ‘‘Jack’’ Curry Jr., 61, of 273 King Road, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Curry worked with the civil service at Fort Bragg for 20 years.

Mr. Curry is survived by his wife, Bonnie S. Curry; and two sisters, Barbara Blackketter of Bradenton, Fla., and Jill Bushert of Pensacola, Fla.

Ms. Covington is survived by two daughters, Krystal D. Covington of Southern Pines and Charlene S. Russell of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Sarah P. Pope of Southern Pines; and three brothers, William G. Spencer and Roger D. Spencer, both of Greensboro, and Robert Spencer of Peekskill, N.Y.
