ROSEBORO -- Mrs. Bettye Doris Williams Butler, 69, of 2227 Pleasant Union Road died Tuesday in Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday in Pleasant Union Baptist Church by the Revs. Roger Jackson and Richard Spell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Butler is survived by her husband, Perry F. Butler of the home; a daughter, Gloria B. Gray of Roseboro; a son, Wayne Butler of Roseboro; her mother, Beatrice S. Williams of Roseboro; four sisters, Margaret Duke of Michigan, Chellie Cousins and Calista Andotti, both of Long Island, N.Y., and Edna Beasley of Roseboro; a brother, James Williams of Michigan; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Butler Funeral Home.

Alma C. Alphin (Dated Thursday, October 21, 1999 )

Mrs. Alma Carter Alphin, 89, of Fayetteville died Tuesday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Alphin was a teacher for the Cumberland County Schools for 37 years. She was a member of Judson Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in LaFayette Memorial Park by the Rev. Tom Herndon.

Mrs. Alphin is survived by two sons, J.A. Alphin Jr. of Pinehurst and W. Glenn Alphin of Fayetteville; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Campbell D. Eskridge (Dated Thursday, October 21, 1999 )

SANFORD -- Campbell Davis Eskridge, 67, of 204 Henley Road died Tuesday in Central Carolina Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today in Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church by the Revs. Kevin Meadows and Gilbert McDowell. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Mr. Eskridge is survived by his wife, Mary Ann J. Eskridge; two sons, Campbell D. Eskridge Jr. of Apex and Toye C. Eskridge of Sanford; a daughter, Maricam E. Kaleel of Sanford; and a brother, Brewster Eskridge of Asheville.

The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the home.

Willie J. Cotton Jr. (Dated Thursday, October 21, 1999 )

KIPLING -- Willie J. Cotton Jr., 80, of Kipling died Wednesday in Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Mr. Cotton was a former county commissioner for more than 12 years. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Cotton was a member of Kipling United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Kipling United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eddie Hill. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.

Mr. Cotton is survived by his wife, Iris L. Cotton of the home; two daughters, Betty Evans of Charlotte and June Sloan of Gainesville, Ga.; a son, Dwight Cotton of Kipling; three brothers, Utley Cotton and Harold Cotton, both of Fuquay-Varina, and Lewis Cotton of Raleigh; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the W.J. Memorial Gift Fund, care of Kipling United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 88, Kipling, N.C. 27543.

Parlia B. ‘P.B.’ Wood Jr. (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

BENSON -- Parlia Brown ‘‘P.B.’’ Wood Jr., 83, of Benson died Wednesday in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.

Mr. Wood was a member of Benson Baptist Church. He was a member of Benson Masonic Relief Lodge 431 and the Lou Parrish Chapter of Eastern Star. Mr. Wood was a funeral director and embalmer for Rose & Graham Funeral Home for more than 40 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Don Price and Kendell Cameron. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Mildred L. Wood; four daughters, Peggy Hall of Sanford and Betty A. Stephenson, Susan Royster and Debbie Kennedy, all of Cary; a sister, Annie R. Turlington of Benson; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Katherine J. Thrower (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

PINEBLUFF -- Mrs. Katherine Joyce Thrower, 66, of Pinebluff died Wednesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst by the Rev. Donald Ballenger. Burial will be in Richmond Memorial Park in Rockingham.

Mrs. Thrower is survived by her husband, Gilbert Thrower of Pinebluff; three daughters, Carol Scarboro of Aberdeen, Penny Brocach of Earlysville, Va., and Betty Stowell of Woodbridge, Va.; three brothers, Frank Linker of Florida, Harold Linker of Charleston, S.C., and Billy Linker of Rockingham; and four granddaughters.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Kenneth M. Shaw Sr. (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

WHITEVILLE -- Kenneth Murl Shaw Sr., 70, of 881 Brown Maultsby Road died Wednesday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in McKenzie Mortuary chapel by the Rev. Tim Moore. Burial will be in Western Prong Church cemetery.

Mr. Shaw is survived by his wife, Elvera B. Shaw of Whiteville; three sons, Kenneth M. Shaw Jr., Bobby Z. Shaw and Kenneth Z. Shaw, all of Whiteville; four sisters, Estelle S. Nobles of Chadbourn, Elois S. Mishoe of Orrum, Juanita S. Kekipe of Spring Lake and Margaret S. Osborne of Fayetteville; three brothers, Alton Shaw of Lumberton, Willie L. Shaw Jr. of Goldsboro and Morris Shaw of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren.

Oscar C. Musselwhite (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

LUMBERTON -- Oscar Craven Musselwhite, 85, of 550 Bailey Road died Wednesday in Southeasten Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Regan United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Stan Gallagher-Smith. Arrangements are being handled by Biggs Funeral Home.

Mr. Musselwhite is survived by two brothers, O.P. Musselwhite Jr. of Lumberton and Douglas Musselwhite of St. Pauls; and three sisters, Carolyn West of Whispering Pines, Vada Dowless of Lumberton and Elsie King of St. Pauls.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church fellowship hall.

Mary H. McQueen (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

LAUREL HILL -- Mrs. Mary Helen McQueen, 52, of 8880 Sixth Ave. died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Laurinburg by Brother Robert L. Williams. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Morris Funeral Home.

Mrs. McQueen is survived by her husband, James E. McQueen of the home; two daughters, Mary Sprague of Fayetteville and Denise McQueen of the home; a son, James McQueen Jr. of Monroe; six sisters, Carolyn Pratt, Patricia Chambers and Melissa Watkins, all of Monroe, Earnestine McLeod and Mattie Breeden, both of Laurel Hill, and Teretha Monroe of Fayetteville; two brothers, Carnell McLeod Jr. of Laurel Hill and James McLeod of Laurinburg; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Almond L. McDoe (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

ROSEBORO -- Almond Lee McDoe, 52, of 641 Boone St. died Tuesday in Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. John Oliver. Burial will be in Roseboro Cemetery.

Mr. McDoe is survived by his wife, Joann McDoe of the home; a son, Roderick McDoe of the home; his mother, Bonnie McDoe of Clinton; two sisters, Maggie Hooks of Salemburg and Patricia Spell of Clinton; six brothers, Paul R. McDoe, Haywood McDoe, Edward McDoe, Ellis McDoe, Paul E. McDoe and Johnny McDoe, all of Clinton; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Butler & Son Funeral Home.

James D. McAllister (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

RICHMOND, Va. -- James Daniel McAllister, 73, of Richmond, formerly of Dunn, N.C., died Monday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Payton Memorial Chapel in Lillington, N.C., by the Rev. Lorrine Gaskins. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Dunn.

Mr. McAllister is survived by four sons, Lincoln Whittiker, Issac McAllister, Dale McAllister and James McAllister Jr., all of Richmond; two daughters, Elaine Randall and Joyce Crews, both of Richmond; and his mother, Julia Dawson of Dunn.

The public will be received today from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Payton Funeral Home in Dunn.

Mary D. Luther (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

ROCKINGHAM -- Mrs. Mary Dumas Luther, 54, of 936 Palisade Circle died Tuesday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. James Harrington. Burial will be in Northside Cemetery.

Mrs. Luther is survived by her mother, Bessie Dumas of Rockingham; a brother, Philip W. Dumas of Rockingham; and a sister, Rhonda G. Morman of Rockingham.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at McNeill Funerals.

Edward Locklear (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

SHANNON -- Edward Locklear, 67, of 281 McQueen Road died Thursday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Red Springs Funeral Home.

Kenneth M. Lewis Sr. (Dated Friday, October 22, 1999 )

Kenneth Mack Lewis Sr., 35, of 5914 Watershed Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lula Temple First Born Holiness Church in Elizabethtown. Burial will be in First Baptist Church cemetery in Elizabethtown.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Libby F. Lewis of New York; a son, Kenneth M. Lewis Jr. of Plainsfield, N.J.; a daughter, Jasmin Washington of Plainsfield; his mother, Barbara Lewis of Plainsfield; and his grandparents, Elouise Lewis of Elizabethtown and Carrie and Charles A. Booker of Plainsfield.

The public will be received today from 2 to 6 p.m. at F.W. Newton & Sons Mortuary in Elizabethtown.
