GODWIN -- The Rev. Earl Smith, 61, of Godwin died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Elder W.H. Currie will conduct the funeral at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Spring Hill Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Smith is survived by five daughters, Tasha Smith of the home, Angela Wall of Raleigh, Shelia Hopkins of Atlanta, Cheryl Taylor of Winston-Salem and Terry of North Carolina; three sons, Earl M. Smith Jr. of Fort Benning, Ga., Kevin Hopkins of Richmond, Va., and Douglas Hopkins of Portsmouth, Va.; his mother, Madie McMillian of Wade; three brothers, Howard Smith of Bronx, N.Y., Jerry Smith of Raleigh and James McMillian Jr. of Dunn; nine sisters, Elsie McKeithan of Dunn, Maggie P. Moore and Pamela Smith, both of New York, Theresa McEachin of South Carolina, Ruby Floyd of Wade and Willie M. Carter, Beulah Galeemer, Rosie Evans and Carolyn McMillian, all of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Dafford Funeral Home in Dunn.

Alvin Mercer (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

PEMBROKE -- Alvin Mercer, 68, of 405 Cherokee St. died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Arrangements will be announced by Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

Christyne V. Williams (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

TABOR CITY -- Bishop Christyne V. Williams, 66, of Tabor City died Monday.

Arrangements will be announced by Westside Funeral Home.

Arthur M. Monroe (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

WHITE OAK -- Arthur Mack Monroe, 87, of 2152 Tarhill Ferry Road died Sunday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Wiseman Mortuary of Fayetteville.
Bessie M. Logan (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

Ms. Bessie May Logan, 72, of 3014 E. Hickory Hill Road, Fayetteville, died Monday.

Arrangements will be announced by Cunningham & Sons Mortuary.

Sue E. Tew (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

LILLINGTON -- Ms. Sue Ellen Tew, 60, of 1995 E. Cornelius died Monday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

Arrangements will be announced by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

Chris S. Seawell (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

CARTHAGE -- Chris S. Seawell, 22, of 3244 Dowd Road died Sunday.

Mr. Seawell was a farm manager for N.G. Purvis Farms.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Bethlehem Baptist Church by the Rev. Ed Johnson. Burial will be in Bethlehem Church cemetery.

Mr. Seawell is survived by his parents, Richard and Susan C. Seawell of Carthage; a brother, Jon Seawell of Carthage; his maternal grandmother, Mary Cohen of Carthage; and his paternal grandmother, Irene Seawell of Carthage.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home.

Ella H. Evans (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

Mrs. Ella Ree Harding Evans, 64, of 6513 Senator Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday.

Everett Charles Merrill, 66, of Fayetteville died Sunday.

Miriam R. Fields (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

EVERGREEN -- Mrs. Miriam Rhodes Fields, 72, of 125 Ethan Lane died Monday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Boardman Baptist Church by the Rev. Hal Stephens. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Fields is survived by three sons, Jonathan P. ‘‘Johnny’’ Fields and Tony L. Fields, both of Evergreen, and Robert D. Fields of Iron Station; a daughter, Sandra F. Graves of Stanley; a brother, Edward Rhodes of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Clara Owens (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

Ms. Clara Owens of 3527 Clearwater, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Williams Chapel AME Zion Church in Williamston. Burial will be in Andrews Memorial Garden in Williamston. Arrangements are being handled by Tucker & Son Funeral Home.

Ms. Owens is survived by a daughter, Kathryn Mills.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Manson Mortuary in Williamston.

Annie H. Goode (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

Mrs. Annie Hester Goode, 79, of 1909 Bellemeade Road, Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Cureton L. Johnson. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake. Arrangements are being handled by Wiseman Mortuary.

Mrs. Goode is survived by a daughter, Lena Johnson of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Sarah Johnson (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

Mrs. Sarah Johnson of 7316 Reedy Creek Drive, Fayetteville, died Friday.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Grace Community Church by the Rev. Tim Strickland. Burial will be in Fort Bragg Main Post Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by three sisters, Ethel Harris of Portsmouth, Va., Rosie Goss of Williamston and Mary Smith of Baltimore.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Tucker & Sons Funeral Home chapel.

Geraldine Z. Millan (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

VASS -- Mrs. Geraldine Z. Millan, 73, of Vass died Sunday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Pinelawn Memorial Park by the Rev. David Keck.

Mrs. Millan is survived by her husband, James ‘‘Jim’’ Millan; four sons, Glenn H. Millan of Richmond, Va., Douglas G. Millan of Hillsborough, Charles Z. Millan of Greenlawn, N.Y., and James B. Millan of Westbury, N.Y.; a daughter, Pamela Millan of Southern Pines; a sister, Doris Z. LeBle of Pinehurst; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst.

Richmond M. Parker Jr. (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

LAURINBURG -- Richmond Millard Parker Jr., 77, of Laurinburg died Sunday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Parker was an Army veteran of World War II.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hillside Memorial Park by the Rev. Jerry Goins.

Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Daisy A. Parker of Laurinburg; two sons, Richard Parker of Laurel Hill and Kenneth L. Parker of Laurinburg; a daughter, Katherine P. McCormick of Laurinburg; a stepson, Ronald Martin of Charleston, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Barbara Holladay and Gloria Coldren, both of Florence, S.C.; a brother, Hugh Parker of Polkton; a sister, Betty Lou P. Clarke of Florence; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Boles Funeral Home & Crematory.

Julius C. Ezzell (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

TURKEY -- Julius Creson Ezzell, 83, of 327 Hudson St. died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Mr. Ezzell was a member of Turkey Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Turkey School Board and was a retired farmer.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Turkey Baptist Church by the Revs. Mack Musselwhite and Kenneth Stroup. Burial will be in Turkey Cemetery.

Mr. Ezzell is survived by his wife, Della B. Ezzell; two daughters, Yvonne Davis of Fayetteville and Esther Worley of Turkey; a sister, Mae West of Kinston; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Turkey Baptist Church building fund.

William O. Ray (Dated Tuesday, October 26, 1999 )

ERWIN -- William Odell Ray, 62, of 36 St. George Lane died Friday in Johnson Better Care Nursing Home in Dunn.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Cape Fear Conference A Headquarters Facility by the Rev. Harrison Ray. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Dunn.

Mr. Ray is survived by his wife, Magnolia M. Ray of the home; four daughters, Judy R. Harris, Doris Ray and Theresa Ray, all of Dunn, and Denise R. Ray of the home; two sons, William O. Ray Jr. of Lakenheath, England, and Artie J. Ray of the home; three sisters, Louise Evans, Thelma Eatmon and Janice Ray, all of Baltimore; five brothers, James Ray, John Ray, Charles Ray, Larry Ray and Mickey Ray, all of Baltimore; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at Dafford Funeral Home in Dunn.
