Charles R. Sullivan Jr. (Dated Tuesday, October 5, 1999)
SOUTHERN PINES -- Charles Robert Sullivan Jr., 72, of Southern Pines died Saturday.
Mr. Sullivan was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II. He was the co-owner of Sullivan’s Footwear before retiring. Mr. Sullivan was also a Realtor.
The funeral will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. today in Yates-Thagard Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Johnson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Fry-Prickett Funeral Home of Carthage.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by a daughter, Patricia Graham of Seven Lakes; two sons, C. Robert Sullivan III of Germany and Dr. Timothy A. Sullivan of Hershey, Pa.; two brothers, Max Sullivan of Carthage and Joe W. Sullivan of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends today at the church fellowship hall after the service.

Henry Robinson, 79, of 1110 Chesterfield Drive, Fayetteville, died Monday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Oliver Collins Sr., 61, of 3508 Nutmeg, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Virtua Memorial Hospital.

Willie L. Chavis (Dated Tuesday, October 5, 1999)
PARKTON -- Willie L. Chavis, 72, of 6586 Old Plank Road died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Union Oak AME Zion Church. Burial will be in Mount Hebrew Church cemetery.
Mr. Chavis is survived by his wife, Annie Chavis of the home; three daughters, Brenda Patterson of Santa Ana, Calif., Andrea Chavis of Forestville, Md., and Lorria Troy of Hope Mills; six sons, Roger Wilson and Anthony Ford, both of Fayetteville, Marvin Gooch of Washington, D.C., and Michael Chavis, Lacy Chavis Jr. and Sidney Chavis, all of Hope Mills; three brothers, William I. Chavis and Jerry L. Chavis, both of Hope Mills, and Jerome Chavis of Wilmington; a sister, Gladys Durant of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The public will be received today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Tucker & Sons Funeral Home in Fayetteville.
Essie N. Bell (Dated Tuesday, October 5, 1999)
Essie Norman Bell, 36, of Fayetteville died Saturday in his home.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake by Pastor Michael Thorn. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
Mr. Bell is survived by his wife, Anette Bell of Fayetteville; two daughters, Tenisha Bell and Bridgett Bell, both of Fayetteville; and a son, Blake Bell of Fayetteville.
John Y. Bain (Dated Tuesday, October 5, 1999)
WADE -- John Y. Bain, 98, of Route 1 died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in C & Adams Street Church of God by the Rev. Ray Loftis. Burial will be in McMillan Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Mr. Bain is survived by a son, William Bain of Hope Mills; a brother, George Bain of Fayetteville; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills.

James Currie, 73, of 907 Hillsboro St., Fayetteville, died Saturday in his home.

Lewis E. Thompson (Dated Tuesday, October 5, 1999)
WARRINGTON, Va. -- Lewis E. Thompson, 68, of Warrington, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Friday.
Mr. Thompson was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Thompson is survived by a brother, Roy S. Thompson of Aberdeen, N.C.; and two sisters, Gladys Parker of Fayetteville and Ann Williams of Southern Pines, N.C.
Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home & Crematory of Southern Pines.
Quincy K. Nimocks III (Dated Tuesday, October 5, 1999)
Quincy K. Nimocks III, a former Fayetteville businessman and Democratic Party leader, died Sunday in the N.C. State Veterans’ Nursing Home. Mr. Nimocks, of 2808 Skye Drive, was 80.
Mr. Nimocks was the executive director of the state Democratic Party from September 1964 through February 1965, during the administration of Gov. Dan Moore. He was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Nimocks was the owner and operator of Fayetteville Realty and Insurance Services and was the founding director and first president of the local Full Gospel BusinessMen’s Fellowship International. He was a member of the Christian Businessmen’s Fellowship, Hay Street United Methodist Church and the board of directors of the Concerned Methodists. He was a former member of the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Hay Street United Methodist Church by the Rev. Carl Frazier. A private burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Nimocks is survived by his wife, Ruth R. Nimocks of Fayetteville; a daughter, Ruth N. Lucas of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sons, Quincy K. Nimocks IV and Robert R. ‘‘Ranny’’ Nimocks, both of Fayetteville; a sister, Louise N. Williamson of Winston-Salem; and seven grandchildren.

SOUTHERN PINES -- Lonzie Carswell, 53, of 205 Hailey St. died Saturday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday in Southern Pines Elementary School in H.A. Wilson Auditorium by Don Smitherman. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Carswell is survived by his wife, Oglatha Ann of the home; two daughters, Danielle Carswell of Miami and Kim Morrison of Southern Pines; a son, Craig Graham of Southern Pines; four sisters, Sarah Townsend of Jamaica, N.Y., Annie Pierce of Midville, Ga., and Fannie Carswell and Marilyn Carswell, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Robert Carswell of Jacksonville, Willie L. Carswell of Tampa, Fla., and Anderson Carswell Sr. and Zefore Carswell, both of Midville; and four grandchildren.
