Mrs. Marelyn Bell Chavis, 83, of 1045 Camden Road, Fayetteville, died Monday in Integrated Health Services.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Reeves Funeral Home chapel in Hope Mills by the Rev. Stoney Locklear. Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery.

Mrs. Chavis is survived by four daughters, Katie Sroka of Jacksonville, Fla., and Margie Hartman, Rosie Hamel and Nell House, all of Fayetteville; three sons, Johnny Bell of Fayetteville and John Russell and Leon Bell, both of Conroe, Texas; five stepdaughters, Faye Ruffin, Linda Jackson and Cathy Carter, all of Fayetteville, Pam Bobbitt of Jacksonville and Pattie Dillard of Durham; two stepsons, Ronnie Chavis of Fort Worth, Texas, and Donnie Chavis of McColl, S.C.; five sisters, Helen Locklear and Beatrice Lucas, both of Fayetteville, Lucy Lowery and Madie Locklear, both of Laurinburg, and Martha Locklear of Wagram; 22 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Clayton L. Carter

WHITE OAK -- Clayton Lee Carter, 54, of 784 Dowd Dairy Road died Tuesday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Christ Community Baptist Church by the Rev. Leon Warren. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Elizabethtown. Arrangements are being handled by Carter Funeral Home.

Mr. Carter is survived by his wife, Edna B. Carter; two daughters, Rebecca Pait of Dublin and Melissa Seals of Elizabethtown; two sons, Clayton ‘‘C.L.’’ Carter Jr. and David P. Carter, both of White Oak; and three sisters, Barbara Johnson and Nancy Lanier, both of Clarkton, and Jean Moore of Elizabethtown.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the church.

Mamie J. Butler

CLINTON -- Miss Mamie Jane Butler, 91, of 904 Circle St. died Tuesday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Sharon Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Mike Carter, Richard Parsons and James Norton. Burial will be in the Butler family cemetery.

Miss Butler is survived by a sister, Sudie Butler of Clinton.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Irving O. Barker

Retired Army Col. Irving Oscar Barker, 79, of 2538 N. Edge Water Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Barker was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Beth Israel Jewish Synagogue by Rabbi Yosef Levanon. Burial will be in Beth Israel Cross Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Mr. Barker is survived by his wife, Helen Barker of the home; a son, Michael Barker of Linwood, N.J.; and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to Beth Israel Jewish Synagogue, 2204 Morganton Road, Fayetteville, N.C. 28303.

SOUTHERN PINES -- Fred William Aldrich, 79, of Southern Pines died Sunday.

A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. today in Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Grady T. Perryman and Chris Moore-Keish. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home.

Mr. Aldrich is survived by his wife, Peg Aldrich; a son, Jeffrey W. Aldrich of Key West, Fla.; two daughters, Margaret L. Lawryk of Bethlehem, Pa., and Kate A. Tuomala of Southern Pines; two sisters, Jessie L. Lewis and Jane Van Zandt, both of New Milford, Pa.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Daniel C. Aldrich Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 986, East Liverpool, Ohio 43920.

Mary H. Teal

SOUTHERN PINES -- Ms. Mary Hall Teal, 91, of Southern Pines died Wednesday in St. Joseph Health Care Facility.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Pinebluff United Methodist Church by the Revs. Robert Hammond and James Hamilton. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Bethel Methodist Church cemetery in Wadesboro.

Mrs. Teal is survived by three sons, Harry Teal and Eddie Teal, both of Aberdeen, and Wilson Teal of Lexington; two daughters, Betty J. Brooks of Durham and Juanita Boros of Carthage; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Powell Funeral Home.

Elsie M. Taylor

ROSEBORO -- Mrs. Elsie Marie Taylor, 71, of 1641 Fleet Cooper Road died Tuesday in Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Elizabeth Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Dudley Neal.

Mrs. Taylor is survived by her husband, J.C. Taylor of Roseboro; four sons, Jerry P. Taylor and Eugene E. Taylor, both of Roseboro, and Danny R. Taylor and Alex J. Faircloth, both of Clinton; a brother, Jones Faircloth of Autryville; a sister, Mary A. Davis of Richlands; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Jerry Taylor, 88 Pate Road.

STEDMAN -- Derek James Schutz, 34, of Route 2 died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Butler Funeral Home chapel in Roseboro by the Rev. Calvin Carter. Burial will be in Stedman Church of God of Prophecy cemetery.

Mr. Schutz is survived by his mother and stepfather, Elaine R. and S. Wayne Hair of Stedman; and his maternal grandmother, Lillian Richmond of Naples, N.Y.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

John Sampson Jr.

CLINTON -- John Sampson Jr., 52, of 806 McKoy St. died Monday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Morning Star Holy Church by the Rev. Lloyd Butler. Burial will be in Sandhills Cemetery.

Mr. Sampson is survived by a daughter, Jamila Moore of Denver; his parents, John and Clarice Sampson of Clinton; a sister, Jonita Williams of Chadbourn; two brothers, Maurice R. Sampson of Fayetteville and Robert M. Sampson of Charlotte; and a grandchild.

The public will be received Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Timothy T. Rowell

CLINTON -- Timothy Thomas ‘‘T’’ Rowell, 81, of 206 Moore St. died Tuesday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Rowell worked for Lundy Packing Co. as a truck driver before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Butler Funeral Home by the Rev. Lynn Blackburn. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Rowell is survived by his wife, Vernell H. Rowell of the home; two daughters, Patty Jackson of Clinton and Polly Godwin of Black Mountain; a brother, Tommy Rowell of Valdosta, Ga.; two sisters, Eula Wiggins of Rocky Mount and Pat Van Leeuween of Ingelside, Texas; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Carl G. Robinson

GARLAND -- Carl Gregory Robinson, 45, of 285 Rich Road died Monday in his home.

Mr. Robinson was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church. He was a machinist with Robinson & Son Machine Co.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Clinton Cemetery by the Revs. Michael Shook and Eddie Wetherington. Arrangements are being handled by Royal-Hall Funeral Home of Clinton.

Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife, Irene B. ‘‘Rose’’ Robinson; a son, Carl W. Robinson of Garland; a stepson, George L. Petty III of the home; a stepdaughter, Shannon M. Petty of the home; his mother, Sallie S. Robinson of Clinton; a sister, Rita R. Corbett of Clinton; two brothers, Thomas Robinson of Clinton and Jimmy R. Robinson of Wilmington; and a grandson.

The family will receive friends at the home of Sallie S. Robinson, 443 Faison Highway, Clinton.

Billie D. Redmond

PATERSON, N.J. -- Mrs. Billie Don Redmond, 58, of Paterson, formerly of Bladenboro, N.C., died Thursday.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sandhill Cemetery in Bladenboro by the Rev. Roy Smith. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville, N.C.

Neta Y. Pearce

DREXEL-- Mrs. Neta Young Pearce, 87, of Drexel, formerly of Benson, died Tuesday in Autumn Care Rest Home.

Mrs. Pearce was a member of Banner Chapel Advent Christian Church. She was a homemaker.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson by the Rev. Sam Worley.

Mrs. Pearce is survived by two granddaughters.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.
