Mrs. Alberta Bryant Vereen, 83, of 622 Maxine St., Fayetteville, died Thursday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Elder W.T. Ford will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday in Parks Chapel. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Vereen is survived by three daughters, Melinder Lacewell of Fayetteville, Katherine James of Bronx, N.Y., and Juanita Frink of Conway, S.C.; three sons, John L. Vereen of Fayetteville, Hubert M. Vereen of Durham and James T. Vereen of Rembert, S.C.; two sisters, Lilian Johnson of Bolivia and Ruth Faulk of Fair Bluff; a brother, Floyd Bryant of Supply; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight beginning at 7 at Paye Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel.

Kenneth L. Smith

WINSTON-SALEM -- Kenneth Lowell Smith, 45, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Bladenboro, died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Peoples Funeral Home chapel in Whiteville by the Rev. Orville Ilgner. Burial will be in Sandhill Cemetery in Bladenboro.

Mr. Smith is survived by five brothers, Herman Smith, Marion Smith, Harold Smith and Victor Smith, all of Greensboro, and Hydrick Smith of Charlotte; and two sisters, Cassandra Smith of Paterson, N.J., and Gwendolyn Ancrum of Greensboro.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

E. Otto Simms
(Dated Saturday, December 4, 1999)
LAURINBURG -- E. Otto Simms, 88, of 709 Park Circle died Friday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Simms was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired barber.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Wil I. Jackson. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Greenlawn Cemetery in Mooresville.

Mr. Simms is survived by his wife, Kester Simms; a daughter, Martha K. Miller of Salisbury; a brother, Clifton Simms of Mooresville; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McDougald Funeral Home & Crematorium.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 101 W. Church St., Laurinburg, N.C. 28352.

Clyde P. Sellars

CARTHAGE -- Clyde Phillip Sellars, 63, of 400 Stage Road died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Annie I. Reaves

DUNN -- Ms. Annie Inez Reaves, 75, of Britthaven Nursing Home died Friday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Bobby Strickland and Franklin Hunt. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Ms. Reaves is survived by two sons, Jerry Tart and Jimmy Reaves, both of Erwin; a daughter, Linda R. Burnette of Dunn; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Janet L. Ray

Ms. Janet Louise Ray, 62, of 7034 Darnell St., Fayetteville, died Thursday in Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Atwood S. Pope

SMITHFIELD -- Mrs. Atwood Smith Pope, 75, of 107 Maple Drive died Thursday in Johnston Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro by the Rev. Roger Jackson. Burial will be in Mill Creek Baptist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Pope is survived by two daughters, Ann Sessoms of Clinton and Gail Hinton of Middlesex; two sisters, Ernestine Brock of Mount Olive and Lucy Jones of Roseboro; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Raeford Peacock

BENSON -- Raeford Peacock, 67, of 900 W. Main St. died Friday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn.

Smart L. Parker

FUQUAY-VARINA -- Smart L. Parker, 85, of Fuquay-Varina died Wednesday in Brighton Manor Nursing Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in Dafford Memorial Chapel in Angier by the Rev. Dennis Manuel. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Community Cemetery in Angier. Arrangements are being handled by Dafford Funeral Home of Dunn.

Mr. Parker is survived by three brothers, Jacob Parker and Willis Parker, both of Angier, and Manuel Parker of Bronx, N.Y.

The public will be received Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. at the chapel.

PINEHURST -- Mrs. Ann Carabo Ormsby, 89, of Quail Haven Village, formerly of Hamlet, died Thursday.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Richmond Memorial Park by the Revs. Peg O. Witt and Bill Witt. Entombment will be in Richmond Memorial Park.

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Mrs. Geraldine Easterling McQueen, 55, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Maxton, N.C., died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in New Holly United Methodist Church in Little Rock, S.C., by the Rev. Ronald McCall. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. McQueen is survived by her husband, James A. McQueen; a daughter, Gerald B. Coleman of Maxton; 11 sisters, Theresa Dunlap, Clara Leake, Rose Benjamin, Mamie Easterling, Cecelia Scott and Cathy Marques, all of Mount Vernon, Ophelia Easterling of New Rochelle, Flossie Fost of Greensboro, N.C., Sarah Easterling of High Point, N.C., Patricia McDonald of Laurinburg, N.C., and Shirley Easterling of Maxton; seven brothers, Barnes W. Easterling, Edgar Easterling Jr. and Robert Easterling, all of Mount Vernon, Thomas Easterling of Easley, S.C., and Alton Easterling, Carl Easterling and Raymond Easterling, all of High Point; and two grandsons.

The public will be received tonight from 7 to 8 at Morris Funeral Home.

Shelba B. McIntosh

CARTHAGE -- Mrs. Shelba Bullin McIntosh, 61, of Carthage died Thursday.

Mrs. McIntosh is survived by her husband, Alton McIntosh of Carthage; three sons, Spencer McIntosh, James McIntosh and Steven McIntosh, all of Carthage; a stepson, Donnie McIntosh of Greensboro; three daughters, Kathy Capps, Sally McIntosh and Patricia Rundle, all of Carthage; her father, Hassell Bullin of Carthage; three brothers, Pete Bullin, Terry Bullin and Bobby Bullin, all of Greensboro; two sisters, Linda Seaff of Montgomery, Ala., and Sue Bullin of Beaufort; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sarah B. Masterson

SANFORD -- Mrs. Sarah Burns Masterson, 61, of 500 Dudley St., Apt. 321 died Thursday in her home.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home Rogers Memorial Chapel by Wayne O’Quinn and Donnie O’Quinn. Burial will be in Turner’s Chapel cemetery.

Mrs. Masterson is survived by a son, John W. Ross of Sanford; two daughters, Jessie R. O’Quinn of Cameron and Alice M. Smith of Fayetteville; two sisters, Vallie Jenkins of Sanford and Sally Krikorian of Miami; a brother, Reuben Burns of Lumberton; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Garnett K. Lowry

PEMBROKE -- Garnett Kilmus Lowry, 74, of 203 Florence St. died Thursday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Mr. Lowry was the owner and operator of Pembroke Texaco.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Pembroke Gospel Chapel by Brothers Charles W. Oxendine and Paul G. Brooks and the Rev. Robert Ray. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery.

Mr. Lowry is survived by his wife, Victoria B. Lowry of the home; a son, Dr. Garnett M. Lowry of Winston-Salem; three daughters, Theresa Kehl of Ohio, Lisa Sampson of Cary and Kelli Bullard of Pembroke; three brothers, Dr. Otis M. Lowry of Spring Hope, Brantley Lowry of Pembroke and Martin Lowry of Glen Burnie, Md.; four sisters, Maxine Chavis and Daphne Jones, both of Pembroke, Shirley Lowry of Hillsborough, N.H., and Eulalia Williams of Danville, Va.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
