Frederick Forrest, 77, of 4918 Manos St., Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Forrest was a veteran of World War II. He retired from the Army after 21 years.

A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Mr. Forrest is survived by his wife, Margot Forrest of the home; a daughter, Eleanor Lawson of Anchorage, Alaska; and two grandsons.

Elisabeth A. Crandall
(Dated Monday, December 6, 1999)
Mrs. Elisabeth Anna Crandall, 72, of 240 Old Farm Road, Fayetteville, died Thursday.

The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Bobby Tyson. Burial was in Fayetteville Cemetery.

Mrs. Crandall is survived by three sisters, Erna Ellis of Fayetteville, Christel Evans of Savannah, Ga., and Renate Buhnemann of Hanau, Germany; and a brother, Fritz Prywer of Hanau.

Karen E. Locklear
(Dated Monday, December 6, 1999)
MAXTON -- Ms. Karen Etiska Locklear, 18, of 1154 Charlie Watts Road died Friday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Union Light Baptist Church by the Revs. Grady Hunt, Jerry McNeill and Rommie Revels. Burial will be in Sycamore Hill Holiness Church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Crumpler Funeral Home of Red Springs.

Ms. Locklear is survived by her parents, Jackson J. and Edna S. Locklear of Maxton; three sisters, Katina Ray and Sabrina K. Locklear, both of Maxton, and Jacquline Strickland of Pembroke; and her maternal grandmother, Bertha Smith of Maxton.

The family will receive friends tonight beginning at 7 at Union Light Baptist Church.

Neal E. Campbell Sr.
(Dated Monday, December 6, 1999)
LAURINBURG -- Neal E. Campbell Sr., 76, of Laurinburg died Thursday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Galilee United Methodist Church by the Rev. Doris Fox. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery in Laurel Hill. Arrangements are being handled by Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Campbell is survived by a son, Neal Campbell Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Walter Campbell of New York and James A. Campbell of Laurinburg; three sisters, Louise Clark and Carrie B. Pegues, both of Laurinburg, and Doretha Deberry of Bronx, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of James A. Campbell, 11860 Hasty Road.

George M. Pope
(Dated Monday, December 6, 1999)
CLINTON -- George Minson Pope, 75, of 1309 Peterson Road died Saturday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Mr. Pope was a member of Clinton Free Will Holiness Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Clinton Free Will Holiness Church by the Rev. Lynn Blackburn. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery.

Mr. Pope is survived by his wife, Lucille B. Pope of Clinton; a son, George C. ‘‘G.C.’’ Pope of Fayetteville, Ga.; three daughters, Betty Westbrook of Raleigh and Brenda Register and Mary House, both of Clinton; two sisters, Mary Brown of Charlotte and Geraldine Carter of Davidson; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Dr. Dwayne K. Ammons

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Dr. Dwayne Kelvin Ammons, 35, of Louisville, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Friday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville by the Revs. W.L. Ammons and Randy Simmons. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.

Dr. Ammons is survived by his father, the Rev. James ‘‘Lee’’ Ammons of Fayetteville; five sisters, Anita Silver of Amelia, Va., Norma McCoy of Fayetteville, Gwen Warren and Rose Espinoza, both of Raleigh, N.C., and Paula Simmons of Clinton, N.C.; and four brothers, James R. Ammons of Cleveland, Harry Ammons and Eddie P. Ammons, both of Fayetteville, and Everette Ammons of Hope Mills, N.C.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Annie B. Haire

SANFORD -- Ms. Annie Lee Baker Haire, 64, of 2642 Applegate Way died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sanford Free Will Holiness Church by the Rev. Pearl Castleberry. Burial will be in Lee Memory Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Ms. Haire is survived by a son, Homer G. Mullins of Sanford; two daughters, Peggy R. Deal and Carrie E. Barber, both of Sanford; her mother, Carrie P. Baker of Sanford; two brothers, Alexander Baker and William ‘‘Bill’’ Baker, both of Sanford; two sisters, Almeda Welch of Olivia and Beverly Stone of Conway, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the church.

BLACKSTONE, Mass. -- Mrs. Anita Joleen Pena, 24, of Blackstone, formerly of Spring Lake, N.C., died Friday.

SOUTHERN PINES -- Andrew James Robinson, infant son of Lillian Robinson, died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mount Hope Cemetery.

In addition to his mother, Andrew is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Robinson of the home; his grandmother, Mary Johnson of Vass; his grandfather, Paul Van Camp of Southern Pines; and his great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Van Camp of Whispering Pines.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Boles Funeral Home.

Billie Locklear

LAUREL HILL -- Billie Locklear, 51, of 5900 Andrew Jackson Highway died Friday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

Mr. Locklear was an Army veteran. He was a truck driver for Howard Lisk, Inc.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Boles Funeral Home chapel in Laurinburg by the Rev. J.W. Williams. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Laurinburg.

Mr. Locklear is survived by his wife, Shirley H. Locklear of the home; a son, Billie J. Locklear of Laurel Hill; a stepson, Sandy Coleman of Sanford, Fla.; three daughters, Melissa L. Locklear and Kelly Byrd, both of Laurel Hill, and Mitchie Huffman of Laurinburg; two stepdaughters, Tina Locklear of Laurel Hill and Hope L. Jackson of Hamlet; his parents, Willie and Ginsey Locklear of Laurinburg; four brothers, Hervey Locklear and Steve Locklear, both of Laurel Hill, Charlie Locklear of Monroe and Roy Locklear of Jefferson, S.C.; two sisters, Louise L. Wilkins and Marie Sanders, both of Laurel Hill; and 15 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

ROSEBORO -- Mrs. Ivellow Melvin, 82, of 1788 Old Mintz Highway died Friday in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Sam Springs AME Zion Church by the Rev. Orlando Dowdy. Burial will be in Dove Chapel AME Zion Church cemetery in Fayetteville.

Mrs. Melvin is survived by four daughters, Pauline Peterson and Ruby Peterson, both of Roseboro, Annie D. Melvin and Lizzie Stevens, both of Newburgh, N.Y.; six sons, James H. Melvin, Jimmy Melvin and James F. Melvin, all of Newburgh, Thornie Melvin of Raleigh and Julius Melvin and Bobby Melvin, both of Roseboro; two sisters, Geneva Johnson and Bessie McKinnon, both of Fayetteville; 35 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 3 to 7 p.m. at Butler & Son Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7 at the funeral home.
