ANGIER -- Mrs. Inez Ennis Bedgood, 89, of 1219 Ennis Road died Tuesday in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.

Mrs. Bedgood was a homemaker. She was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Providence Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Mark Scott. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bedgood is survived by a sister, Lunette Cook of Garner; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.

Johnny Barton Jr.
(Dated Thursday, December 9, 1999)
MAXTON -- Johnny Barton Jr., 30, of 635 Wild Plum Road died Tuesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Thompson’s Funeral Home in Pembroke by the Revs. Douglas Locklear and Jimmy Oxendine. Burial will be in the Barton family cemetery.

Mr. Barton is survived by a son, Heathen Ring of Laurinburg; his parents, Johnny and Betty Barton of Maxton; two brothers, Jerry McMillan of Lumber Bridge and Scottie Barton of Maxton; and three sisters, Diane McMillan of Raeford and Michelle Barton and Lori Barton, both of Maxton.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Harry J. Barnes

SOUTHERN PINES -- Harry John Barnes, 69, of Southern Pines died Tuesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Southern Pines First Baptist Church by the Revs. David Helms and John D. Stone.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Cos W. Barnes of Southern Pines; a son, John H. Barnes of Columbia, S.C.; two daughters, Sue B. Clark of Southern Pines and Mae C. Barnes of Atlanta; a brother, Lewis L. Barnes of Collinsville, Va.; a sister, Ruth B. Stanley of Stanleytown, Va.; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Powell Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church organ fund, 200 E. New York Ave., Southern Pines, N.C. 28387.

Annie B. Baker

Mrs. Annie Bell Baker, 75, of 9414 Buddy Circle, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Buie Funeral Home of Raeford.

Charlie R. Atkinson Jr.

NAPLES, Fla. -- Charlie Robert Atkinson Jr., 79, of 777 Ninth St., formerly of Fairmont, N.C., died Saturday in Heritage Healthcare.

Mr. Atkinson was a member of First Baptist Church in Fairmont.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Floyd Funeral Services chapel in Fairmont by the Rev. Ed Wilcox. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Mr. Atkinson is survived by a daughter, Gwen Griffis of Naples; five sisters, Ann Stone and Jessie Herring, both of Fairmont, Molly Lewis of Orrum, N.C., Polly Jones of Lumberton, N.C., and Pauline Blake of Chadbourn, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Jessie Herring, 3121 Centerville Church Road, Fairmont.

Pauline M. Williams

DUNN -- Mrs. Pauline M. Williams, 80, of Core Family Care Center, formerly of Newton Grove, died Thursday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Hazel B. Watson

Mrs. Hazel Batson Watson, 92, of Village Green Care Center, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Watson was a member of First Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Brent Rector. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mrs. Watson is survived by two daughters, Patsy O. Bunch and Mary E. Herold, both of Fayetteville; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church building fund, Anderson and Old streets, Fayetteville, N.C. 28301.

Renville L. Vann

CLINTON -- Renville Lee Vann, 67, of 201 Moore Road died Monday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Andrews Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. John Oliver. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Vann is survived by a daughter, Sheila Vann of Clinton; a son, Renville T. Vann of Clinton; a sister, Ida Carlton of Mount Olive; two brothers, Jesse Vann and Percy J. Vann, both of Clinton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 6:30 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

CLINTON -- Mrs. Mary Thompson, 80, of 4467 Bearskin Road died Monday.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in South End Baptist Church by the Rev. Clarence Patterson. Burial will be in Northside Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by a son, James Thompson of Fayetteville; three brothers, Robert Chambers of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Sammy Chambers and James Chambers, both of Aberdeen; three sisters, Francis McDonald of Fayetteville, Evelene Bethea of Aberdeen and Juanita Chambers of Brooklyn; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 2 to 7 p.m. at H.M. Colvin Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Barbara F. Thompson

FAIRMONT -- Ms. Barbara Faulk Thompson, 70, of 2071 Baltimore Church Road died Tuesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Vernor C. King. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Ms. Thompson is survived by two stepdaughters, Alma J. Thompson of Fairmont and Jackqueline Campbell of Lumberton; her stepmother, Kathrine P. Floyd of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, LaFayette Thompson Jr. of Temple Hills, Md., Legusta Floyd of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Thomas L. Floyd of Florida; a sister, Willie J. Floyd of Washington; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hill’s Funeral Home.

James M. Smith Jr.

KURE BEACH -- James Merritt Smith Jr., 79, of Kure Beach died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel in Wilmington by Dr. Alton Watkins. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

Among Mr. Smith’s survivors are a son, James ‘‘Mickey’’ Smith of Fayetteville; and four brothers, LeRoy Smith of Pinehurst and Tom E. Smith, Herbert A. Smith and William D. Smith, all of Fayetteville.

Cora Smith

IVANHOE -- Mrs. Cora Smith, 86, of 2380 Ivanhoe Road died Monday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Roseville Baptist Church by the Rev. Clinton Brantley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter, Mary Hayes of Ivanhoe; and four grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Summerville-Boykin Mortuary in Garland.

Mary Little

RED SPRINGS -- Mrs. Mary Stamps Little died Tuesday. She was 101.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Red Springs Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Michael L. McGehee. Burial will be in Alloway Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Carlisle Funeral Home of Tarboro.

Mrs. Little is survived by a daughter, Mary G. Alston of Scotland Neck; two sons, W.F.F. Little Jr. of Fayetteville and Col. James Little of Big Springs, Texas; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Springs Presbyterian Church; Rex Presbyterian Church, Rex, N.C.; or to Barium Springs Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1, Barium Springs, N.C.

Rev. Franklin Toole Jr.

WHITEVILLE -- The Rev. Franklin Toole Jr., 61, of Whiteville died Thursday.

The Rev. Toole was the pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Westminster Presbyterian Church by the Rev. David Walker.

The Rev. Toole is survived by his wife, Judith M. Toole of Whiteville; three sons, Benjamin C. Toole of Mooresville, Timothy Toole of Waynesboro and Benjamin J. Toole of the home; a sister, Kathleen T. Jones of Miami; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKenzie Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 307 S. Franklin St., Whiteville, N.C. 28472.

Annie M. Pierce

WHITEVILLE -- Ms. Annie Louise McLaughlin Pierce, 85, of Whiteville died Thursday.

Ms. Pierce was a member of Whiteville United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Columbus Memorial Park by the Rev. C. B. Owens.

Ms. Pierce is survived by two sons, James R. Pierce of Carolina Beach and William J. Pierce of Lake Norman; three sisters, Alice M. Williams and Elizabeth M. ‘‘Betty’’ Waters, both of Whiteville, and Carolyn Melvin of Fayetteville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at McKenzie Mortuary.
