Mrs. Minnie Bell Hamer Billings of Fayetteville died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Northside Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by House of Thomas Funeral Home of Dillon, S.C.

Mrs. Billings is survived by a sister, Anna H. Richardson of Dillon.

Ida P. Jones
(Dated Sunday, December 12, 1999)
Mrs. Ida Pickett Jones, 85, of 362 McArthur Road, Fayetteville, died Friday in Len Care Rest Home.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Cedar Falls Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Cedar Falls Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Helton Jr. and Benita Whittington. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mrs. Jones is survived by a daughter, Lyndia Voisard of Fayetteville; a son, Peter H. Jones of Rural Retreat, Va.; a sister, Frances Konops of South Plainfield, N.J.; a brother, Johnny Pickett of Wahalla, S.C.; three granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Falls Baptist Church, 6181 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, N.C. 28311.

William C. Comer
(Dated Sunday, December 12, 1999)
Retired Naval Chief Petty Officer William C. Comer, 65, of Fayetteville died Friday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Mr. Comer was a member of the Moose Lodge.

A private graveside service will be conducted in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Comer is survived by his wife, Barbara G. Comer; two sons, Michael F. Comer and Steven R. Comer, both of Fayetteville; two daughters, Caryn C. Panowicz of Waldorf, Md., and Patricia C. Navarra of Hope Mills; his mother, Catherine M. Comer of Fayetteville; a sister, Mary C. Britt of Fayetteville; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.

LAKEVIEW -- William C. Turnley, 89, of Lakeview died Friday in his home.

Mr. Turnley is survived by several nieces and nephews.

CLINTON -- Mrs. Jessie Maniego, 95, of 615 Williams St. died Thursday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Andrew Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Arthur D. Taylor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Maniego is survived by a stepdaughter, Mildred Fowler of Clinton; a stepson, Morris Maniego of Colonial Heights, Va.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

LILLINGTON -- Mrs. Rachel W. Drake, 68, of Lillington died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Monday in O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home by the Revs. Jerome Pope, James Caviness and Bynum Mauney. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Mrs. Drake is survived by her husband, Donnie R. Drake of the home; two daughters, Cathy D. Blanton of St. Pauls and Tammy D. Hein of Lillington; a son, Donnie R. Drake Jr. of Lillington; two brothers, Willie N. Wilkins of St. Pauls and Earl Wilkins of Georgia; two sisters, Shelby Creese and Daphney Leach, both of California; and 13 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

DUNN -- Mrs. Lois Pearl Tart Pope, 63, of 107 W. Pearsall St. died Friday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Long Branch Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Elvin Butts.

Mrs. Pope is survived by her husband, James D. Pope Sr. of the home; a daughter, Judy K. Gregory of Dunn; two sons, Jimmy Pope of Coats and Alvin K. Pope of the home; her mother, Gladys A. Tart of Dunn; three brothers, Thomas Tart of Dunn, Billy Tart of Beulaville and Johnny Tart of Benson; three sisters, Jackie Sistrunk of Sanford, Edna Johnson of Dunn and Barbara Murray of Florida; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.

Janie R. Norton

CLARKTON -- Ms. Janie Mae Roscoe Norton, 79, of Clarkton died Saturday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

Ms. Norton was a member of Western Prong Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in McKenzie Mortuary chapel by Dr. Jerry Kinlaw. Burial will be in Western Prong Baptist Church cemetery.

Ms. Norton is survived by three sons, James W. Norton of Jacksonville, Fla., Grady M. Norton of Clarkton and Daniel T. Norton of Whiteville; a sister, Helen R. Stasinski of Michigan; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lorena C. Carter

Mrs. Lorena C. Carter, 78, of 1533 Seabrook Road, Fayetteville, died Friday.

Mrs. Carter was a teacher at Fayetteville State University.

She was the wife of the late Dennis T. Carter, a longtime coach and athletic director at E.E. Smith High School.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in Tucker & Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park.

The public will be received Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.

Carl L. Norton

SANFORD -- Carl Lester Norton, 76, of 1828 Butler St. died Saturday.

Mr. Norton worked for Burlington Industries in Raeford and Tuckers Grocery before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Tramway Baptist Church by the Rev. Scott Wilson. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. in Richmond Memorial Park in Rockingham.

Mr. Norton is survived by his wife, Velva H. Norton; three sons, Dale Norton of Clinton, Md., Billy Norton of Lumberton and Don Norton of Raeford; two daughters, Lib McVicker and Pam Frederick, both of Raeford; three sisters, Judy Soles of Fayetteville, Maxine McLean of Laurel Hill and Jean Clewis of Laurinburg; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
