DUNN -- Miss Jessie Merle Lee, 83, of Dunn died Tuesday in Parrish Nursing Home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Greenwood Cemetery by the Rev. Sherrill Pope.

Miss Lee is survived by six nieces.

The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 p.m. at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.

James C. Johnson
(Dated Thursday, November 11, 1999)
BENSON -- James Carl Johnson, 68, of 203 Railroad Road died Wednesday in his home.

Mr. Johnnson was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He received the Bronze Star. Mr. Johnson was the founder of Interstate Glass & Upholstery Co. in Dunn and Smithfield.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Trent Watts. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Nancy S. Johnson; three sons, James L. Johnson of Benson, David P. Johnson of Wilson and Fred C. Johnson of Manassas, Va.; a daughter, Rachel J. Britt of Smithfield; three brothers, Paul L. Johnson of Warwick, R.I., Charles Johnson Jr. of Fuquay-Varina and Zoro M. Johnson of Smithfield; and four sisters, Nadine Parker of Warwick, Lillie Mae Hall of Benson and Esther Rancourt and Alice Seal of Providence, R.I.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

A prayer service will be held tonight at 7 at the funeral home.

Sara E. ‘Betty’ Holt
(Dated Thursday, November 11, 1999)
SANFORD -- Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Edwards ‘‘Betty’’ Holt, 66, of Sanford died Tuesday in Central Carolina Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Carl Rush and the Rev. Rick Martindale.

Mrs. Holt is survived by her husband, James A. Holt of Sanford; four daughters, Caroline Stirling, Susan Burleson, Nancy Burgess and Rebecca Holt, all of Raleigh; a sister, Caroline E. Sires of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

Gene E. Harper
(Dated Thursday, November 11, 1999)
ROWLAND -- Gene Edward Harper, 63, of Rowland died Tuesday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham.

Mr. Harper was a Marine veteran and was a Staff Sgt. in the Army National Guard. He was a former textile worker and self-employed businessman.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Mount Zion Baptist Church in Hamer, S.C. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Cooper Funeral Home of Dillon, S.C.

Mr. Harper is survived by his wife, Doris J. Harper of Rowland; a daughter, Laura Robertson of Mullins, S.C.; two sons, Tim Harper and Jack Harper, both of Rowland; two sisters, Janet Henderson of Dillon and Hazel Yarborough of Wilmington; two brothers, Wattie S. Harper and James V. Harper Jr., both of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and two grandsons.

Memorials may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church building fund, care of Celeste Barfield, P.O. Box 1645, Dillon, S.C. 29536; or to Rowland Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 449, Rowland, N.C. 28383.

Lonnie J. Farlowe
(Dated Thursday, November 11, 1999)
ROBBINS -- Lonnie Jessie Farlowe, 58, of 260 Church St. died Wednesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mr. Farlowe worked for Standard Mineral Co. before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Brown’s Chapel Christian Church by the Revs. Brady Stephens and Gonsalee Moore and Robert Scott. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Farlowe is survived by his wife, Sylvia H. Farlowe of the home; three daughters, Nellie Hinson of Biscoe and Sandra Moore and Diane Fowler, both of Robbins; two sons, Eugene Maness of Star and Ricky Maness of Robbins; a sister, Bonnie Moore of Robbins; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Martha B. Faircloth
(Dated Thursday, November 11, 1999)
ERWIN -- Mrs. Martha Beasley Faircloth, 58, of 104 Triton Court died Sunday in her home.

The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Midway Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Randy Anderson, Jimmy Barnhill and Everette Faircloth. Burial was in Savannah Hill Church cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Faircloth is survived by a son, Charles Beasley of Dunn; a daughter, May Lou Hernandez of Benson; two stepsons, Willie Faircloth of Erwin and Talbert Faircloth of Dunn; two stepdaughters, Joyce Sills of Dunn and Mozelle Martinez of Erwin; a brother, David Porter of Burlington; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Margaret A. Ennis

COATS -- Mrs. Margaret Avery Ennis, 73, of 1444 Old Stage Road North died Wednesday.

Mrs. Ennis was a homemaker.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. King White. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens.

Mrs. Ennis is survived by her husband, William E. Ennis; two daughters, Gayle Hinnant of Raleigh and Patricia Cochran of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Jerry Hudson of Waxhaw and Donald Hudson of Clayton; two stepdaughters, Barbara Stewart of Wade and Renee Dickens of Erwin; a stepson, James Ennis of Roanoke Rapids; three sisters, Lillian Abbey and Irona Williams, both of Dunn, and Edna Dennis of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, John Avery of Port Monmouth, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Jannie Echols, 69, of Fanning Circle, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Steven M. Douglas

SANFORD -- Steven Monroe Douglas, 45, of 1446 Kentrywood Farm Road died Tuesday in his home.

Mr. Douglas was a member of Lemon Springs Ruritan Club.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Sanford Church of God by the Rev. Eugene Powers and Pastor Gail Dickens. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Mr. Douglas is survived by Carmen Cox; his father, Floyd Douglas of Sanford; three sisters, Shelia Douglas, Sandra Haynes and Brenda Dempsey, all of Sanford; and his paternal grandmother, Ila Douglas of Sanford.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Mack Crosland

LAURINBURG -- Mack ‘‘Richardson’’ Crosland, 66, of 906 Kingston St., Apt. A, died Sunday in Hamlet Hospital in Hamlet.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Bethlehem Baptist Church by the Rev. J. Jordan. Burial will be in Stewartsville Cemetery.

Mr. Crosland is survived by his wife, Maebell Crosland of the home; two daughters, Mary E. Douglas of Bennettsville, S.C., and Annie Walker of Long Island, N.Y.; a brother, John F. Crosland of Laurinburg; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at Carrie Hester Funeral Services and at other times at the home.

Lillie Covington

Mrs. Lillie Covington, 88, of 523 Country Club Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in St. Luke AME Church by the Rev. Sheridan A. Knight. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Covington is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

Mr. Butler is survived by his mother, Joyce Butler of Queens Village; his father, David R. Butler of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Katherine Hamilton of Queens Village; two brothers, Duane Butler of Richmond and Tony Lee of Oklahoma City; his maternal grandmother, Coreen Lee of Clinton; and his paternal grandmother, Ethel Butler of Richmond.
