GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Mrs. Juelean Webb Maness, 77, of 1213 E. Washington St. died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Among Mrs. Maness’ survivors is a daughter, Page M. Sawyer of Lumberton, N.C.

Memorials may be made to Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina, P.O. Box 967, Pembroke, N.C. 28372.

Herman Maynor Jr.
(Dated Tuesday, November 23, 1999)
TAMPA, Fla. -- Herman ‘‘Buddy’’ Maynor Jr., 56, of 5203 Garden Lane, formerly of Pembroke, N.C., died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sandy Plains United Methodist Church by the Revs. Graylen Mitchell, Jerry McNeill and Eugene Jenness. Burial will be in the Demery family cemetery.

Mr. Maynor is survived by his wife, Nancy E. Maynor of the home; a son, Gerald Maynor of Lumberton; a daughter, Sandra Harrison of Bladenboro; three stepsons, Robert Garner and Galen Garner, both of Bloomington, Ill., and Jimmie Barr of Atlanta, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Lara Brooks of Tampa; his father, Herman Maynor Sr.; two brothers, Frankie Maynor of Pembroke and Johnny Maynor of Polkton, N.C.; five sisters, Bessie Britt, Mary Godwin and Jennie Locklear, all of Fayetteville, Linnie Seymore of Virginia and Penny McGee; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home in Pembroke.

Becky S. Wagner

LUMBERTON -- Ms. Becky Stevens Wagner, 48, of 1953 Eastwood Terrace died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Wagner is survived by a son, Keith Wagner of Florida; a daughter, Kristen Wagner of Lumberton; and two sisters, Rolanda Anderson of Lumberton and Roberta Naylon of Florida.

A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Beatrice Rushman

LUMBERTON -- Ms. Beatrice Rushman, 83, of 550 Bailey Road died Monday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

BENSON -- Mrs. Beulah Nordan Elliott, 75, of 404 S. Dunn St. died Monday in Harnett Manor Rest Home in Lillington.

Mrs. Elliott is survived by two sons, Hal G. Elliott and Michael Elliott, both of Benson; two sisters, Naomi Benson and Millie West, both of Benson; a brother, Lindell Nordan of Benson; and three grandchildren.

Blanche G. Carter

KERNERSVILLE -- Ms. Blanche Griffin Carter, 92, of 602 Piney Grove Road, formerly of Lumberton, died Sunday in Bradford Valley West Nursing Center.

Ms. Carter worked for Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. She was a member of East Lumberton Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Old Hollywood Cemetery by the Rev. LeRoy Burke. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Ms. Carter is survived by two daughters, Sarah F. English of Kernersville and Mary E. Stone of Rowland; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at East Lumberton Baptist Church fellowship hall after the service.

Doris B. Caffee
(Dated Tuesday, November 30, 1999)
WHITEVILLE -- Ms. Doris Lucille Bowen Caffee, 79, of Whiteville died Sunday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Ms. Caffee was a member of White Marsh Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in McKenzie Mortuary chapel by the Rev. Burvin Ferguson. Burial will be in Columbus Memorial Park.

Ms. Caffee is survived by three daughters, Patricia C. Singletary of Oak Island, Barbara J. Brown of Wilmington and Melrose Justice of Currie; two sisters, Aileen Caines of Delco and Eula M. Splinter of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Henry Barney Meshaw, 70, of Elizabethtown died Monday in Bladen County Hospital.

Mr. Meshaw is survived by his wife, Sylvia B. Meshaw of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Debbie M. McCall and Cathy M. Priest, both of Elizabethtown; three sons, Kenneth Meshaw of Seneca, S.C., and Danny Meshaw and Dennis Meshaw, both of Elizabethtown; a sister, Doris McDuffie of Council; a brother, Frankie Meshaw of Wilmington; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Burnie C. Currie III, 61, of 802 Nobie St. died Friday in Bladen County Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Harry McGill. Burial will be in First Baptist Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by F.W. Newton & Sons Mortuary.

Mr. Currie is survived by three daughters, Sheila Kelly, Cynthia Currie and Paulette Currie; a son, Calvin Currie Jr.; his parents, Burnie C. and Pauline C. Currie Jr. of Elizabethtown; three sisters, Ruth A. Currie, Diane Washington and Leverne Nwobi; and eight grandchildren.

Malcolm Graham

SHANNON -- Malcolm Graham, 67, of 2901 Shannon Road died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bridges Grove AME Zion Church by the Rev. Foskey. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Graham is survived by his wife, Ellen M. Graham of the home; two daughters, Sheila G. Byrd of Fayetteville and Shirley L. Graham of the home; two sons, Ricky Graham of Raeford and Robin Graham of Shannon; and five grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 2 to 7 p.m. at Purcell Funeral Home in Southern Pines.

Willie E. Scott

PEMBROKE -- Willie Eric Scott, 16, of 8092 N.C. 72 West died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Willie was a student at Riverside Christian Academy.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Union Chapel Methodist Church by the Revs. Dufrene Cummings and Anthony Chavis. Burial will be in the Maynor family cemetery.

Eric is survived by his parents, Willie W. and Bobbie A. Scott of the home; a sister, Catrina A. Scott of the home; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Archie Scott of Pembroke; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Maynor of Pembroke; and his great-grandmother, Willie R. Chavis of Pembroke.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

George H. Newkirk

CLINTON -- George Henry Newkirk, 81, of 115 Goldsboro Road died Thursday in his home.

Elder Onyx Martin will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Pauls Disciples of Christ Church. Burial will be in Sandhills Cemetery.

Mr. Newkirk is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Phillips of Englewood, N.J.; two sons, Willie Newkirk of Rose Hill and James Newkirk of Buffalo, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from noon to 7 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Viola M. Ward

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Mrs. Viola Merritt Ward, 88, of Elizabethtown died Monday in Bladen County Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Davis Cemetery by the Rev. Levy Bryant.

Mrs. Ward is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Deal of Fayetteville and Esther Davis of Elizabethtown; 14 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Kinlaw Funeral Home.

Marelyn B. Chavis

Mrs. Marelyn Bell Chavis, 83, of 1045 Camden Road, Fayetteville, died Monday in Integrated Health Services.

Arrangements will be announced by Reeves Funeral Home of Hope Mills.
