LUCAMA -- Dock Franklin Horton, 56, of Lucama died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Joyner’s Funeral Home by Dr. DeWayne Eakes. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Among Mr. Horton’s survivors is a sister, Katy Blanton of Fayetteville.

Ms. Sarah H. Garner (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

PINEHURST -- Ms. Sarah Jones Hatch Garner, 77, of Pinehurst died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Pinelawn Memorial Park in Southern Pines. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.

Ms. Garner is survived by a sister, Lillian J. Mangum of Carthage.

Clyde S. Faircloth Sr. (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

BROADWAY -- Clyde Stanley Faircloth Sr., 54, of 5097 Cool Springs Road died Saturday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Smith Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Patsy Payne. Burial will be in Broadway Town Cemetery.

Mr. Faircloth is survived by three sons, Clyde S. Fairlcloth Jr., Johnny R. Faircloth and Elvis G. Faircloth, all of Broadway; two brothers, Glenn Faircloth of Fayetteville and Eddie Watson Jr. of Rockingham; eight sisters, Louise Guinn of Rockingham, Verlon Harris of Pinehurst, Chaterine Stone of Florida, and Eve M. Stone, Sadie R. Bass, Pauline Stone, Sandra Berryman and Alberta McDonald, all of Sanford; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Jerry and Margaret Lemons, 213 Dickens Road, Broadway.

Mrs. Sue C. Elliott (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

Mrs. Sue C. Elliott, 65, of Fayetteville died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Elliott was a member of Northwood Temple. She was the owner and manager of Palm Springs Mobile Home Park No. 1.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Northwood Temple by the Rev. John Hedgepeth. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mrs. Elliott is survived by her husband, J.D. Elliott of the home; two sons, David N. Meadows and Ronnie Elliott, both of Fayetteville; a daughter, Pat Meadows of Fayetteville; a sister, Josephine Richmond of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to North Fayetteville Exchange for the Prevention of Child Abuse, P.O. Box 9021, Fayetteville, N.C. 28311.

Ms. Rena B. Edwards (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ms. Rena Mercier Batton Edwards, 88, of Jacksonville, formerly of Dunn, N.C., died Friday.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Skinner Funeral Home chapel in Dunn by the Rev. James Summey. Entombment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn.

Ms. Edwards is survived by two daughters, Barbara B. Pierce of Brisbane, Australia, and Virginia B. Reasy of Jacksonville; a stepdaughter, Joy L. West of Dunn; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sarah K. Carter (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

CLINTON -- Mrs. Sarah K. Carter, 82, of 512 Warsaw Road died Sunday.

Arrangements will be announced by Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Charlie H. Beamon (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

CLINTON -- Charlie Howard Beamon, 94, of 113 Henry Lee Lane died Saturday.

Arrangements will be announced by Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ivory Bailey (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

ROSEBORO -- Mrs. Ivory Bailey, 78, of 161 Crabapple Lane died Thursday in Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Robinson Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Curtis Barginere. Burial will be in Roseboro Cemetery.

Mrs. Bailey is survived by four daughters, Olivia Bailey, Betty Bailey, Beatrice Newman and Bessie Hargrove, all of Roseboro; a son, W.C. Stevenson of Manhattan, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Butler & Son Funeral Home.

James R. Alexander (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

WHISPERING PINES -- James R. Alexander of Whispering Pines died Friday.

Arrangements will be announced by Boles Funeral Home & Crematory of Southern Pines.

Ms. Virginia N. Rivenbark (Dated Monday, July 19, 1999)

BOLTON -- Ms. Virginia Carroll Nye ‘‘Virgie’’ Rivenbark, 92, of 2762 Green Swamp Road died Sunday in Premier Living in Lake Waccamaw.

Ms. Rivenbark was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Shiloh United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Ben Horton. Arrangements are being handled by McKenzie Mortuary.

Ms. Rivenbark is survived by a daughter, Polly Nye of Bolton; two sisters, Agnes C. Gerock of Scotts Hill and Letha C. Brew of Wilmington; a grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 641 Green Swamp Road N., Bolton, N.C.

Mrs. Elizabeth McDowell (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Mrs. Elizabeth McDowell, 87, of Elizabethtown died Friday in Elizabethtown Nursing Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Mount Zion AME Zion Church by the Rev. Florence S. Brown. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. McDowell is survived by three daughters, Nettie Peterson of Rose Hill and Lillie Austin and Marie Anderson, both of Elizabethtown; a stepdaughter, Pearl Autry of Elizabethtown; two sons, Burt Nicholas of Bayside, N.Y., and Charlie McDowell of Elizabethtown; and 29 grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 6:30 p.m. at F.W. Newton & Sons Mortuary.

Ms. Caroline Leak (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

LUMBERTON -- Ms. Caroline Leak of 110 Earl St. died Sunday.

Arrangements will be announced by Maultsby & Sons Funeral Home.

William M. Ferguson Jr. (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

SANFORD -- William Michael Ferguson Jr., 69, of 4105 Hunt Springs Drive died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home chapel.

Mr. Ferguson is survived by two sons, Stewart Ferguson and Michael F. Ferguson, both of Sedalia, Mo.; a daughter, Pamela E. Brown of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, John F. Ferguson of Japan; three sisters, Mary L. Godfrey of Sanford, Frances Burdick of Racine, Wis., and Barbara Currin of Shallotte; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

George Doby (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

SANFORD -- George Doby, 75, of 714 Frazier Drive died Sunday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Northview United Church of Christ by the Revs. Darrell Green and Clarence Gunter. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Mr. Doby is survived by a daughter, Suzanne D. Cagle of Carthage; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Spawling Carter (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

LUMBERTON -- Spawling Carter, 72, of 98 Ransom Road died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Floyd Memorial Chapel by the Revs. Don Bullard, Steve Brewer and Romey L. Revels. Burial will be in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Mr. Carter is survived by a son, William Porter Jr. of the home; two brothers, Wilton Carter of Red Springs and Willis L. Carter of Charlotte; and two sisters, Ressie M. Carter and Rosie M. Chavis, both of Lumberton.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Leroy Ray (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

RAEFORD -- Leroy Ray, 58, of 7220 Turnpike Road died Sunday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Buffalo Springs Missionary Baptist Church by Dr. Barry Shoffner. Burial will be in Silver Grove Community Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Buie Funeral Home.

Mr. Ray is survived by his wife, Alma Ray of Charlotte; three daughters, Bessie D. Ford, Karen S. Royal and Linda J. Little, all of Charlotte; three brothers, George Ray, Clem Ray and Matthew Ray, all of Raeford; two sisters, Cora Graham and Mary McCoy, both of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the church.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the church.
