Howard H. Simpson (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

HAMPTON, Va. -- Howard H. ‘‘H.H.’’ Simpson, 90, of Hampton, formerly of Newton Grove, N.C., died Sunday.

Mr. Simpson was a high school principal. He was a member of Newton Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Newton Grove Baptist Church in Newton Grove by the Rev. Larry Oldham. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery in Clinton, N.C.

Mr. Simpson is survived by two brothers, Evander Simpson Jr. of Smithfield, N.C., and Grady Simpson of Clinton; two sisters, Flora Owens of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jeanette Swope of Oklahoma City; three grandsons; and a great-grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at West & Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove.

Memorials may be made to Newton Grove Baptist Church building fund, 327 Goldsboro Road, Newton Grove, N.C. 28366.

Mrs. Frances A. Thomas (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Mrs. Frances Autry Thomas, 52, of Rochester, formerly of Elizabethtown, N.C., died Thursday in Highland Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Pleasant Hill Holiness Church in Elizabethtown by Evangelist Lillie Hammond. Burial will be in Autry Cemetery in Elizabethtown.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband, Charles Thomas Sr.; two sons, Charles Thomas Jr. and Christopher Thomas, both of Rochester; three daughters, Jessica Thomas and Letitia Thomas, both of Rochester, and Belinda Ligon of Dale City, Va.; her parents, Daniel and Elizabeth Autry of Elizabethtown; six brothers, Edward Autry, Leo Autry and Raymond Autry, all of Elizabethtown, Thurman Autry of Fayetteville, N.C., Randolph Autry of Garland, N.C., and Jerry Autry of Hampton, Va.; four sisters, Hattie Streeter, Janice Johnson and Ruby Autry, all of Elizabethtown, and Michelle Stacker of Garland; and five grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Garland.

Mrs. Marie Anderson (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

Mrs. Marie Anderson of 4333 Thorndike Drive, Fayetteville, died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Paye Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel.

Doward F. Cribb Sr. (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

Retired Air Force Tech. Sgt. Doward Franklin ‘‘Don’’ Cribb Sr., 67, of 6250 Stoney Point Loop, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Cribb was in the Air Force for 22 years before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Reeves Funeral Home chapel in Hope Mills by the Rev. Alan Phillips. Burial with military honors will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Cribb is survived by his wife, Margie R. Cribb; six daughters, Linda F. Clark of Bennettsville, S.C., Kathy D. Perhealth of Ruby, S.C., Marsha D. Staggs and Glenda H. Butterfly, both of Fayetteville, Toni A. Gilmore-Shourds of Hope Mills and Nancy R. Brockway of Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, Doward F. ‘‘Buddy’’ Cribb Jr. and Christopher M. Cribb, both of Fayetteville; a brother, Gilbert H. Cribb of Fayetteville; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Robert B. Boswell Sr. (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

Retired Army Staff Sgt. Robert B. Boswell Sr. of 309 Grafton Ave., Fayetteville, died Monday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Floyd Benfield. Burial will be in McKay Cemetery.

Mr. Boswell is survived by his wife, Miriam S. Boswell of the home; a son, Robert B. Boswell Jr. of Fayetteville; a brother, Ras Boswell of Marysville, Wash.; three sisters, Ida M. Phipps of Tabor City, Susie Strickland of Cerro Gordo and Margaret Maready of Charleston, S.C.; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Cedar Falls Baptist Church transportation fund or building fund, 6181 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, N.C.

Roy V. Turner (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

LILLINGTON -- Roy V. Turner, 80, of Lillington died Monday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Carl Graham, Chip Hopkins and Danny Lewis. Burial will be in Harnett Memorial Park.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife, Leona H. Turner of the home; a daughter, Nancy Cadorette of Chester, Va.; two sons, Wayne Turner of Fuquay-Varina and Bobby Turner of Raleigh; two sisters, Elsie Holt of Fuquay-Varina and Annie R. Oaks of Fayetteville; a brother, Linwood Turner of Fuquay-Varina; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church building fund, 8326 N.C. 27 West, Lillington, N.C. 27546.

Foster G. Martin (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

TALYLORSVILLE -- Retired Army Master Sgt. Foster Glenn Martin, 80, of 304 Rocky Springs Road, formerly of Fayetteville, died Sunday in his home.

Mr. Martin formerly worked for Fayetteville Area System of Transit.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by the Revs. Darren Lambert, Cecil Lovelace and Lander Heafner. Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Adams Funeral Home.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Betty D. Martin; two sons, Gary G. Martin of Woodbridge, Va., and Randy B. Deal of Taylorsville; three daughters, Sherry Jones of Franklinville, Cathy Keever of Taylorsville and Joy Millsaps of Heddenite; a sister, Marie Dagenhart of Statesville; and nine grandchildren.

John J. Barefoot (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

DUNN -- John Junne Barefoot, 77, of Dunn died Monday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

Arrangements will be announced by Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margaret H. Merritt (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Mrs. Margaret Hoffman Merritt, 89, of Hartsville, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Saturday.

Mrs. Merritt was a teacher in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in Middendorf Baptist Church by the Revs. Ed Griggs and Donald W. Williams. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Merritt is survived by two brothers, Ebbie Hoffman of Hartsville and Wilford Hoffman of Patrick.

Edward L. Floyd (Dated Tuesday, July 20, 1999)

FAIRMONT -- Edward Lehman Floyd, 67, of 558 Harrington Road died Sunday in his home.

Mr. Floyd was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Oakdale Baptist Church by the Rev. Frank Campbell. Burial will be in Floyd Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife, Laura B. Floyd of the home; a son, Edward D. Floyd of Murrells Inlet, S.C.: a daughter, Cherie L. Cox of Conover; his mother, Eva Harrelson of Marion, S.C.; two brothers, William Floyd of Marion and Clifton Floyd of Mullins, S.C.; and two grandsons.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Funeral Services and at other times at the home.

TABOR CITY -- Mrs. Jessie Myers, 88, of Tabor City died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in St. Matthew AME Church by the Rev. O’Nita Dupree. Burial will be in Columbus County Singing Union Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Westside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Myers is survived by three daughters, Carlia M. Bryant of New Jersey, Betty Jeter of Columbia, S.C., and Marvella Baldwin of Greensboro; and three sons, Fred Myers Jr. of Baltimore, Thurman Myers of Philadelphia and William D. Myers of Atlanta.

Ms. Dolly J. Huizenga

PINEHURST -- Ms. Dolly J. Huizenga, 74, of Pinehurst died Saturday in her home.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Jeff Floyd Powell, 75, of 804 Poplar St. died Friday in Lyn-Care Nursing Home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today in Garland First Baptist Church by Dr. Sammuel McDonald. Burial will be in Powell-Wright Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Robinson Funeral Home.

Mr. Powell is survived by two sons, Harold McLean of Fayetteville and Tyrone Powell of Hampstead, N.Y.; two daughters, Patricia A. Powell and Glenda P. Robinson, both of Fayetteville; two sisters, Minnie F. Jenkins and Lucy Warren, both of Bridgeport, Conn.; two brothers, James Powell of Dudley and Fred Powell of Clinton; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Alberta M. Womack

SANFORD -- Mrs. Alberta Maddox Womack, 77, of 115 Thomas Kelly Road died Friday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Juniper Springs Baptist Church by the Revs. Danny Wallace and Joe Watterson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Smith Funeral Home.

Mrs. Womack is survived by her husband, Caryle Womack; a son, Wilbur Wilson of Sanford; two daughters, Emma J. West and Josephine Womack, both of Sanford; two brothers, Alex Maddox and Jonas Maddox, both of Sanford; a sister, Betty M. Oquinn of Sanford; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

FAIR BLUFF -- Ms. Sarah McNeil, 51, of 11472 Andrew Jackson Highway died Thursday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Hickory Grove Baptist Church by the Revs. Ervin Harper and Thomas Nelson. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Ms. McNeil is survived by a daughter, Lisa Davis of Fair Bluff; three sons, Ricky A. McNeil of Lumberton and Keith McNeil and Bryan Vereen, both of Fair Bluff; six sisters, Frosty Davis, Mildred Vereen and Diantha Eady, all of Fair Bluff, Jerri Carrucci of Whiteville, Ann Bullock of Atlanta and Jean Ellis of Wilmington; and three brothers, Bobby Vereen of Capital Heights, Md., Claude Vereen Jr. of Fair Bluff and Ellis Bullock of Augusta, Ga.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Peoples Funeral Home chapel in Whiteville.
