Mrs. Louise B. Morgan

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Louise Baggette Morgan, 87, of 1000 Wesley Pines Road, formerly of Red Springs, died Wednesday in Wesley Pines Retirement and Nursing Center.
Mrs. Morgan was a member of First Baptist Church in Red Springs. She was a retired schoolteacher.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs by the Rev. Paul Jones. Arrangements are being handled by Crumpler Funeral Home of Red Springs.
Mrs. Morgan is survived by two daughters, Sheila M. Campbell and Shannon M. Holmes, both of Elizabethtown; a sister, Doris B. McIlwain of Red Springs; and five grandchildren.

GARLAND -- Mrs. Susie Owens Smith, 90, of 2170 Harrells Highway died Tuesday in Mary Gran Nursing Center in Clinton.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Stephens AME Zion Church by the Rev. Alonzo Braggs. Burial will be in Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.

David W. Prather

RED SPRINGS -- David William Prather, 59, of 121 Church St. died Tuesday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Freedom Assembly of God by the Revs. Montana Locklear, Hedrick Jones and George Locklear. Burial will be in the Hardin family cemetery.
Mr. Prather is survived by his wife, Betty H. Prather of Red Springs; three sons, Jeffery D. Prather, Daniel F. Prather and Johnathen W. Prather, all of Red Springs; two daughters, Linda F. Cooper of Maxton and Hattie Locklear of Red Springs; a sister, Alice Nasta of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Jessie Ballew of Odessa, Mo., Charles Balker of Columbia, Mo., and Warren Ballew and Noel Prather, both of Independence, Mo.; and 15 grandchildren.

Mrs. Bernice Bryant, 69, of 3211 Blossom Road, Fayetteville, died Feb. 5 in Columbia Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Gray’s Creek Baptist Church in Hope Mills by the Rev. Clyde McLaughlin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Bryant is survived by a daughter, Joyce Hill of Laurelton, N.Y.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Louise Walker, 87, of 716 Ellis St., Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Guiding Star Holiness Church by Bishop William Townsend. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Walker is survived by her husband, Thelma B. Walker of the home; three daughters, Etta M. Hines, Louine Walker and Kathy Roundtree, all of Fayetteville; two sons, Thurman Walker of Fayetteville and Milton Walker of Autryville; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE -- Mrs. Mary Ethel Talbert Spangler, 88, of Carthage died Wednesday in St. Joseph of the Pines Health Care.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by the Revs. Gregg Newton and Max Gilmore. Burial will be in Culdee Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Mrs. Spangler is survived by two daughters, Louise Marosites of Pinehurst and Patsy Garner of West End; two sons, Bobby Spangler of West End and Freddy Spangler of Pinehurst; two brothers, James Talbert of Whispering Pines and Leonard Talbert of Rosewell, N.M.; four sisters, Ruth Garner of Carthage, Lillie Williamson of Aberdeen and Ruby Fowler and Virginia Betts, both of Sanford; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

HIGH POINT -- Mrs. Ella Mae J. Southerland, 79, of 1313 Camden Ave., formerly of Rowland, died Monday in High Point Regional Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Rowland by the Rev. Roger Jordan. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Local arrangements are being handled by Jackson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Southerland is survived by five daughters, Naomi J. Southerland, Nina Zinnerman and Willeaner Little, all of High Point, Betty J. Southerland of Lake View, S.C., and Linda Wall of Norman; three brothers, Everett Jordan of Clarenton, Pa., William Jordan of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the Rev. Roger Jordan of Maxton; five sisters, Calperta Simpson of Fayetteville, Lena McLean of Maxton and Naomi McIntyre, Joyce Moody and Almeaka Womble, all of Brooklyn; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Hal W. Shaw, 65, of Elizabethtown died Thursday.
Mr. Shaw was an electrician before retiring.

Mr. Shaw is survived by his wife, Kathryn B. Shaw of Elizabethtown; two daughters, Kathi Shaw of Wilmington and Sherry S. Smith of Gastonia; two sons, Michael H. Shaw and Johnny W. Shaw, both of Elizabethtown; and six grandchildren.

ROBBINS -- Arthur Way Morgan, 65, of 412 Adams Road died Wednesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mr. Morgan was a member of Smyrna United Methodist Church. He worked for Luck’s Inc. before retiring.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Smyrna United Methodist Church by the Rev. J.R. Tatum. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Bernice H. Morgan; a daughter, Sharon M. Williams of Charlotte; two sons, Barry L. Morgan of Seagrove and Steven A. Morgan of the home; his mother, Onnie H. Morgan of Star; two brothers, Phillip Morgan and Roger Morgan, both of Star; a sister, Joyce Morgan of Star; and five grandchildren.
