Mrs. Burniece Baker (Dated Thursday, July 1, 1999)

ROWLAND -- Mrs. Burniece Baker, 81, of 3885 N.C. 130 West died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in New Hope United Methodist Church by the Rev. David O. Malloy. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Jackson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Baker is survived by a daughter, Emma Burns of Rowland; a brother, John W. McQueen of Baltimore; three sisters, Almena R. Hayes of Bronx, N.Y., and Lucille Chandler and Doretha Alford, both of Rowland; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the church.

Joseph A. Westrum (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Joseph Allen ‘‘Joe’’ Westrum, 36, of Florence, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Saturday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will be in Florence Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Westrum is survived by his wife, Donna Westrum of Florence; a son, Joey Westrum of Florence; a daughter, Alli Westrum of Florence; his mother and stepfather, Kim and John Ramirez, both of Fayetteville; a sister, Debbie Breaux of New Caney, Texas; and three brothers, Mike Westrum of Baytown, Texas, Eldon Westrum of Pasadena, Texas, and Tommy Westrum of Friendswood, Texas.

Francisco T. Torres (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

RAEFORD -- Francisco Torres Torres, 34, of Raeford died June 27.

Arrangements will be announced by Crumpler Funeral Home.

Miss Doris B. Tindall (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

GIBSON -- Miss Doris Bell Tindall, 71, of Gibson died Sunday in her home.

Miss Tindall was a pediatric nurse at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Gibson United Methodist Church by the Rev. Harold Salmon. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.

Miss Tindall is survived by a brother, Carl Tindall of Laurel Hill; and three sisters, Frances Jordan of Hartsville, S.C., Betty L. Watson of Bishopville, S.C., and Alice Lucas of Charlotte.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McDougald Funeral Home in Laurel Hill.

Mrs. Esther B. Singletary (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

BLADENBORO -- Mrs. Esther Mae Byrd Singletary, 70, of 216 Webb Faulk Road died Saturday in Cape Fear Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.

Mrs. Singletary owned and operated a beauty shop for several years.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Richardson First Baptist Church by Dr. Dewit Kennedy. Burial will be in Butters Cemetery in Butters.

Mrs. Singletary is survived by her husband, Robert Singletary of the home; a son James R. Singletary of Bladenboro; a stepson, Michael Nance of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Joann Byrd of Four Oaks; four brothers, Bill Byrd, Hilden Byrd, Bobby Byrd and Roy Byrd, all of Four Oaks; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory in Lumberton.

Clayton House (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

WADE -- Clayton McLam House of 7184 Lee St. died Saturday in his home. He was 80.

Mr. House was the mayor of Wade for 23 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he received the Combat Infantry Badge, four Battle Stars and the Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters. Mr. House retired from Pope Air Force Base and the Fayetteville City Schools as the grounds maintenance supervisor. He was a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Wade Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conduced at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Wade Baptist Church by the Revs. Raymond Myrick and Lawrence Tew and Drs. Robert Yoder and Ronald Loftis. Burial will be in Old Bluff Church cemetery.

Mr. House is survived by his wife, Helen G. House of the home; two sons, Clayton M. House Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Rufus L. House of Fayetteville; two daughters, Peggy H. Tew of Fayetteville and Marilyn H. Parkin of Stedman; a brother, Hubert F. House of Wade; a sister, Elma H. Eason of Wade; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home in Dunn.

Genaro Robles (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

RAEFORD -- Genaro Robles, 35, of Raeford died June 27.

Arrangements will be announced by Crumpler Funeral Home.

Cecil G. Radford (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

LAURINBURG -- Cecil George Radford, 64, of 422 S. Caledonia Road died Saturday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Radford worked for Waverly Mills before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 5 p.m. Tuesday in East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Legrande Taylor. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery.

Mr. Radford is survived by his wife, Ellen Q. Radford; four daughters, Diane Briggs and Deborah Simmons, both of Laurinburg, Donna Norris of Wagram and Dodie Radford of Gibson; a sister, Martha Williams of Laurinburg; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium.

Oscar L. Montgomery (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

Oscar L. Montgomery of 882 E. Mountain Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Harold McFayden (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

RAEFORD -- Harold McFayden, 73, of Autumn Care of Raeford died Saturday.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sandy Grove United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Donald Shields.

Mr. McFayden is survived by a brother, Thomas McFayden of Raeford; and two sisters, Nellie McFayden and Lucy Stephens, both of Raeford.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home and at other times at the homes of Nellie McFayden, Apt. B, Twin Oaks, Raeford, and Thomas and Nellie McFayden, Open Arms Rest Home, Raeford.

Mrs. Lizzie Lewis (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Mrs. Lizzie Lewis, 82, of Elizabethtown Nursing Home, formerly of White Oak, died Thursday in Bladen County Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Harrison Creek AME Zion Church in White Oak by the Rev. Johnny B. Murphy. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by three sisters, Marstine Jessup and Kathleen Burton, both of White Oak, and Geneva McDonald of Fayetteville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Summerville-Boykin Mortuary in Garland.

Ernest Warren Kington, 70, of 5690 Dutchess Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Mrs. Shirley L. Kesterson (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

RAEFORD -- Mrs. Shirley T. Locklear Kesterson, 63, of Raeford died Saturday in her home.

A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville by the Rev. Melvin Bell.

Mrs. Kesterson is survived by her husband, Charles W. Kesterson of Raeford; a son, Dale J. Kesterson of Naples, Fla.; two daughters, Vivian L. Kesterson and Tammy M. Sindledecker, both of Naples; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. Grace S. Kennett (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

SANFORD -- Ms. Grace Stone Kennett, 98, of Sanford died Sunday in Laurels of Chatham.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Luke United Methodist Church by the Revs. Tom Loftis and Vernon Tyson. Burial will be in Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church cemetery.

Ms. Kennett is survived by a daughter, Kay Stout of Sanford; three sons, H. Connor Kennett of Sanford, H. Stone Kennett of Raleigh and J. Phil Kennett of High Point; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Retired Army Staff Sgt. Barry Lee Hare, 62, of 636 Clayton Drive, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Christopher A. Goodwin (Dated Monday, July 5, 1999)

LAUREL HILL -- Christopher Allen Goodwin, 22, of 24187 Gliff Gibson Road died Saturday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

Mr. Goodwin was a construction welder.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Laurel Hill First Baptist Church by the Rev. Don Malpass. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

Mr. Goodwin is survived by Terri Britt of the home; his father and stepmother, Donald and Sharon Goodwin of Laurel Hill; his mother, Sherry L. Glidewell of Laurel Hill; a brother, Bobby Goodwin of Laurel Hill; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Earlene Goodwin of Laurel Hill; and his maternal step-grandfather, Bob Lefler of Bear Creek.
