Mrs. Emma P. Byrd (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

LILLINGTON -- Mrs. Emma Patterson Byrd, 72, of Lillington died Sunday in Harnett Manor Nursing Home.

Mrs. Byrd worked at Koury Co. for 35 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Antioch Baptist Church in Mamers by the Rev. Martin Groover. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Byrd is survived by a son, Carl Byrd of Lillington; two brothers, John B. Patterson of Clayton and Larry Patterson of Mamers; three sisters, Carolyn Haire and Marie Hinesly, both of Spring Lake, and Sadie Byrd of Sanford; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Harnett County, P.O. Box 373, Erwin, N.C. 28339.

Mrs. Inez Willis (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

DUNN -- Mrs. Inez Willis, 82, of 441 Plainview Highway died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Jesse Fulcher. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by West & Dunn Funeral Home of Newton Grove.

Mrs. Willis is survived by a daughter, Shirley West of Dunn; a son, Robert ‘‘Bob’’ Willis of Spiveys Corner; a sister, Haven Blackman of Clinton; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Herbert Sams Jr. (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

LAURINBURG -- Herbert Sams Jr., 57, of 19500 Blakely Road died Sunday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The family will receive friends at the home of Beatrice Sams, 601 Ashley Drive.

Arrangements will be announced by Morris Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margaret Rueschoff (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

Mrs. Margaret M. Rueschoff, 66, of Fayetteville died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by LaFayette Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mae G. Procter (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

SANFORD -- Mrs. Mae Godwin Procter, 76, of 3709 Minter School Road died Saturday in Central Carolina Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in Edgewood Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Dale Miller. Burial will be in Lee Memory Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Mrs. Procter is survived by her husband, Henry W. Procter; two sons, Jimmy Wilson and Bobby Wilson, both of Sanford; a daughter, Judy Johnston of Sanford; three sisters, Catherine G. Coley and Lela G. Harrington and Magolene Godwin, both of Broadway; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Lucille D. Fields (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

NEPTUNE, N.J. -- Mrs. Lucille Dimmock Fields, 81, of Neptune, formerly of Pinehurst, N.C., died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in First Missionary Baptist Church in Southern Pines, N.C., by the Rev. Joshua J. Haire Jr. Burial will be in Jackson Hamlet Community Cemetery in Pinehurst.

Mrs. Fields is survived by a daughter, Hannah E. Fields-Silvera of Bronx, N.Y.; a brother, James Dimmock of Lithonia, Ga.; a sister, Ruth D. Barrett of Southern Pines; two stepsisters, Betty Jackson and Catherine Jeter, both of Southern Pines; and two grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Simon Funeral Home in Southern Pines.

Mrs. Norma J. Kerns (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

Mrs. Norma Jean Kerns, 65, of 207 Helen St., Fayetteville, died Sunday.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Henry Lee.

Mrs. Kerns is survived by her husband, Gilmore J. Kerns of the home; two sons, Michael S. Kerns of Marietta, Ga., and Timothy S. Kerns of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Katherine S. Capps of Fayetteville and Patricia K. Masten of Winston-Salem; a sister, Barbara A. Nelson of Cameron; and three grandsons.

The family will receive friends after the service at the 82nd Airborne Division Association Fayetteville Chapter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Mrs. Betty U. Mitchell (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

Mrs. Betty U. Mitchell, 60, of 8048 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, died Sunday in her home.

Mrs. Mitchell was a nurse at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her husband, William P. Mitchell; two daughters, Pamela M. Alford of Youngsville and Deborah M. Knight of Raleigh; her mother, Elizabeth Usher of Raleigh; a sister, Brenda Hester of Raleigh; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Lake Rim Baptist Church building fund, 7758 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, N.C. 28304.

LUMBERTON -- Miss Amanda Marie Scott, 9, of 395 N.C. 41 South died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

GARLAND -- Miss Tasha LaRue Boone, 27, of 2491 Harrells Highway died Saturday.

GARLAND -- Ms. Joyce Canty Boone, 54, of 2491 Harrells Highway died Saturday.

CHADBOURN -- Jerry K. Ward, 49, of 212 Land St. died Thursday.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Zion Wall Free Will Baptist Church by Bishop Larry Williamson. Burial will be in Belvue Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by D&A Funeral Service.

Mr. Ward is survived by a son, Kevin Davis of Fayetteville; his mother, Definia Ward of Chadbourn; five brothers, James Ward, Joe Ward and Malichia Ward, all of Chadbourn, Willie L. Ward of Empire, La., and Larry Ward of Whiteville; and a sister, Onia B. Faison of Boston.

Ms. Lena S. Averitt (Dated Monday, August 9, 1999)

ABERDEEN -- Ms. Lena S. Averitt, 91, of Aberdeen died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines by the Rev. Donald Ballenger. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery.

Ms. Averitt is survived by a son, Jerald D. Averitt of Aberdeen; a daughter, Dixie L. Thompson of Aberdeen; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Anthony L. Akins, 38, of 306 Currie St., Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Wesley Edwards, 66, of 4228 Camden Road, Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Edwards is survived by two sisters, Maggie Little of Fayetteville and Elizabeth Hughes of Winston-Salem.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

Jerry D. West (Dated Wednesday, June 30, 1999)

DUNN -- Jerry David West, 58, of 359 Hawley Road died Tuesday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Edward Allen. Burial will be in Williford Cemetery.

Mr. West is survived by his wife, Eleanor B. West of the home; a son, Jeremy D. West of the home; a stepson, Thomas R. West of the home; a stepdaughter, Bridgette D. Tyndall of Dunn; a sister, Patricia Horne of Dunn; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
