ROBBINS -- Jerry Robert Woodel of 13063 N.C. 24/27 died Sunday.

Mr. Woodel was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart twice. He was a carpenter.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rock Hill Friends Church by the Revs. Clyde Comer and John Powell. Burial with military honors will be in Flint Hill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Woodel is survived by his wife, Maggie G. Woodel of the home; a sister, Kathelene W. Needham of Seagrove; five stepchildren, Judy English of Spartanburg, S.C., Danny English of Fayetteville, Barbara Nall of Robbins, Ronnie English of Anderson, S.C., and Tony English of Belton, S.C.; 17 step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Kennedy Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

William C. Monroe

William C. Monroe, 60, of 7219 Spotted Fawn Road, Fayetteville, died Saturday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Beauty Spot Baptist Church by the Rev. Douglas Robinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Paye Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Monroe is survived by two brothers, Curtis L. Monroe and John A. Monroe, both of Fayetteville; and a sister, Sarah M. Farmer of Fayetteville.

Roy Bass

CLINTON -- Roy Bass, 75, of 5330 Keener Road died Monday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Mr. Bass was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Bass worked for the Department of Transportation before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Piney Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Joel Story. Burial with military honors will be in Grandview Memorial Park.

Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Doris H. Bass; two sons, Kenneth R. Bass of Mount Olive and David W. Bass of Newport News, Va.; four sisters, Elier B. Smith of Castle Hayne, Mae B. Parker of Richlands, Nell B. Norris of Clinton and Martha B. Benson of Benson; a brother, Silas Bass of Clinton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church, 1818 N. McCullen Road, Faison, N.C. 28341.

Mrs. Sandra C. Anderson

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- Mrs. Sandra Chavis Anderson, 50, of Alexandria, formerly of Hope Mills, N.C., died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church in Parkton, N.C., by Dr. James A. Raye Sr. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park in Fayetteville, N.C.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her husband, George Anderson of Alexandria; a son, Jamie Chavis of Hope Mills; four stepsons, George Anderson III of Dallas, Bryan K. Morris and James A. Anderson, both of Houston, and Kole Anderson of Birmingham, Ala.; three stepdaughters, Kwani Anderson of Birmingham and Sherry A. Jackson and Alice L. Anderson, both of Denver; her parents, William I. and Arlanda Chavis of Hope Mills; four brothers, William R. Buxton of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Gerald Patterson and Ira Rudolph, both of Hope Mills, and William Randolph of Fayetteville; two sisters, Ruth Bryant of Fayetteville and Linda Coley of Charlotte, N.C.; and three grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary in Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends at the home of William and Arlanda Chavis, 5841 State Road, Hope Mills.

LUMBERTON -- Curtis Graham Britt, 90, of 405 East 14th St. died Monday in Wesley Pines Nursing Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Godwin Heights Baptist Church by Dr. Lynn Bullock. Burial will be in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Mr. Britt is survived by his wife, Marie L. Britt of the home; two daughters, Patricia Mitchelson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sandra Floyd of Whiteville; a brother, Bruce Britt of Barnesville; two sisters, Amada Small of Fair Bluff and Corinne Foley of St. Pauls; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

DURHAM -- Mrs. Bobbie Swaim Cotten, 51, formerly of Pinehurst, died Sunday in her home.

Mrs. Cotten was a homemaker.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Gorman Baptist Church by Dr. David Beck and the Revs. Steve Jarvis and Julian Motley.

Burial will be at 5:30 p.m. in Pinebluff Cemetery in Pinebluff. Arrangements are being handled by Clements Funeral Service.

Mrs. Cotten is survived by her husband, Charles A. Cotten; a daughter, Andrea J. Cotten; two sisters, Frankie S. Butler of Pinebluff and Betty S. Funderburk of Buies Creek.

William D. ‘Don’ Powell
William Donald ‘‘Don’’ Powell, 69, of 1111 Progress St., Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Massey Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. David Weeks. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Powell is survived by two sons, Robert-Wayne Powell and Kevin D. Powell, both of Fayetteville; a daughter, Tracey P. Garner of Fayetteville; two brothers, Kenneth Powell of Hope Mills and Fairley Powell of Lincolnton; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Talbert H. Dennis

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Vass First Baptist Church by the Rev. Jesse Mansfield. Burial will be in Johnson Grove Cemetery.

Ms. Parker is survived by two sons, David Parker of Vass and Joseph Parker of Southern Pines; a daughter, Eunice P. Stokes of Pinehurst; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.
