LUMBER BRIDGE -- James Earl Stone, 21, of Lumber Bridge died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday in Calvary Tabernacle Church by the Revs. Mike Coram and Jeff Chavis. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in St. Pauls.
Mr. Stone is survived by a daughter, Jamye Stone of Union, Maine; his mother and stepfather, Millie and Bill Meade of Lumber Bridge; his father, Johnnie Stone of Lillington; and a brother, Marcus C. Stone of Wakulla.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler Funeral Home.

FAISON -- Elbert Cox, 80, of 1750 Goshen Church Road died Friday in Cherry Hospital.

Elmer L. ‘Nick’ Nicholson (Dated Tuesday, September 7, 1999)
CHESTER, Conn. -- Elmer Lyle ‘‘Nick’’ Nicholson, 81, of Chester, formerly of Pinehurst, N.C., died Sunday.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Curtis-Britch Memorial Chapel in Newport by the Rev. Martha Peck. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Nicholson is survived by his wife, Diana Nicholson; four children, Carol Fryberger of Duluth, Minn., Linda Goodman of Oakdale, Conn., David Nicholson of Burlington, Vt., Nancy N. Cekalla of Little Falls, Minn.; a sister, Hazel Hawkins of Fredricton, New Brunswick, Canada; 12 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Laddie Judd Jr. (Dated Tuesday, September 7, 1999)
DUNN -- Laddie Judd Jr., 69, of 604 N. Layton Ave. died Saturday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. John Missionary Baptist Church by Dr. Walter J. Haire. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. Judd is survived by his wife, Bernice Judd of the home; a daughter, Alice Judd of Dunn; a son, Joshua McNeill of California; three brothers, William C. Judd of Dunn and Prennell Judd and Jonnie Judd, both of Apex; and four sisters, Martha Scott and Frances Bryant, both of Lillington, and Grace Wilson and Diane Andrew, both of Apex.
The public will be received tonight from 5 to 8 at Payton Funeral Home.

DUNN -- Mrs. Cleo Holmes Todd, 75, of Dunn died Sunday in Parrish Nursing Center of Dunn.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Veterans Memorial Cemetery by the Rev. King White.
Mrs. Todd is survived by a brother, Walter Holmes of Dunn.

Rudolph ‘Bluzie’ Frink (Dated Tuesday, September 7, 1999)
CHADBOURN -- Rudolph ‘‘Bluzie’’ Frink, 69, of 106 S. Wilkes St. died Sunday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Belvue Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by D&A Funeral Services.
Mr. Frink is survived by his wife, Nettie Frink of Chadbourn; three daughters, Dorothy Jacob of Clarkton, Margaret Britt of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Sabrina Frink of Philadelphia; a son, Howard Smith of Brooklyn; and two brothers, Dr. James Frink of Pittsburgh and Frank Frink of Brooklyn.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church.
Gladys M. Mitchell (Dated Tuesday, September 7, 1999)
LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Gladys Moody Mitchell, 49, of 20 1/2 Marion Road died Friday in her home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church by the Revs. E.B. Turner and Veronica McNeill. Burial will be in Elizabeth Heights Cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell was a member of New Jerusalem Church. She formerly worked for Southern National Bank.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by a son, Tommy Moody of Lumberton; her father, Vernie Harley of Lumberton; three sisters, Mary Hudson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Vernese Branch of Lumberton and Betty Glenn of Baltimore; and three brothers, Toney Moody of Tennessee and Larry Moody and Lee Moody, both of Baltimore.

MAXTON -- Hartford Cummings, 82, of 138 Dale Drive died Saturday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Harpers Ferry Baptist Church by Brother Gary Thompson and the Revs. C.M. Cummings and Henry W. Oxendine. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Thompson’s Funeral Home of Pembroke.
Mr. Cummings is survived by two daughters, Regina C. Ransome and Denise Bird, both of Pembroke; eight sons, Harley D. Cummings of Maxton, Avery R. Cummings, Melvin R. Cummings, William B. Cummings and Hanford Cummings, all of Pembroke, and Welbert L. Cummings, Stuart W. Cummings and Hartford Cummings Jr., all of Lumberton; three brothers, Baker Cummings and the Rev. C.M. Cummings, both of Pembroke, and Bonford Cummings of Sanford; and 20 grandchildren.

Mrs. Matthews is survived by her husband, Bobby Matthews of the home; two daughters, Valerie Lilly of Dunn and Tiffany Matthews of the home; three sons, Andre McKethan of Benson, Bobby G. Matthews of the home and Donald Matthews of Erwin; seven sisters, Louise Cameron, Jennie Burrus and Alice Bennett, all of Erwin, Carrie Revel of Winston-Salem, Jerline Covington of Spring Lake, Della Williams of Bunnlevel and Helen T. McReynolds of Fayetteville; six brothers, William P. Cameron, Willie H. Cameron of Erwin, Carnell Cameron of Linden, Robert L. Cameron of Philadelphia, Mitchell Cameron of Benson and Ray C. Cameron of Dunn; and four grandchildren.

CLINTON -- Miss Vanessa Ann Underwood, 16, of 49 Janice Lane died Friday in her home.
Vanessa was a student at Union High School.

Vanessa is survived by her parents, David Underwood and Lovistine Phillips, both of Clinton; two sisters, Stephanie Phillips and Sulinda Phillips, both of Clinton; a brother, Lamont D. Underwood of Clinton; her maternal grandmother, Sarah C. Phillips of Clinton; and her paternal grandmother, Etherine Underwood of Clinton.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Mrs. Lena Love Scaife, 90, of North Myrtle Beach, formerly of Red Springs, N.C., died Sunday in Myrtle Beach Manor.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Ocean Woods Cemetery by the Rev. John G. Cockrell. Arrangements are being handled by Brunswick Funeral Service of Shallotte, N.C.
Mrs. Scaife is survived by two grandchildren.

JASPER, Ind. -- Ms. Elinor Claire Howard Hamilton of Jasper, formerly of Clinton, N.C., died Saturday in Northwood Good Samaritan Health Care Center.
Ms. Hamilton was a teacher before retiring. She was a member of United Methodist Church in Clinton.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today in Clinton Cemetery by Dr. Hugh Cameron.
Ms. Hamilton is survived by a son, Capt. Stephen H. Howard of Jasper; a daughter, Dr. Claire J. Miner of Austin, Texas; a sister, Nancey Marley of Burlington, N.C.; a brother, Mike Howard of Pineville, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home in Clinton.
