WILMINGTON -- Daniel Herman Lanier, 65, of 7100 Murrayville Road, formerly of Bladen County, died Thursday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro by the Rev. Jeff Kennedy. Burial will be in Branch-Lanier Cemetery.
Mr. Lanier is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. Herring of Wilmington; two sons, Daniel M. Lanier and Kenneth W. Lanier, both of Wilmington; two sisters, Clara Smith of Dunn and Louise Butler of Lumberton; a brother, Evander Lanier of Wilmington; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ms. Ernestine Bennett (dated Friday, July 16, 1999)
HAMLET -- Ms. Ernestine Bennett, 76, of 818 Pine St., died Thursday in her home.

Mrs. Nettie V. Smith (dated Saturday, July 17, 1999)
WARSAW -- Mrs. Nettie Virginia Smith, 75, of 398 Sam Miller Road died Thursday in Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Wilson Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. Isaac Johnson. Burial will be in Sandhills Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith is survived by four daughters, Virginia Vann of Warsaw and Dorothy Butler, Carolyn Jacobs and Barbara Johnson, all of Clinton; a son, Bobby Smith of Clinton; two sisters, Annie P. Blue of Fayetteville and Carrie L. Smith of Faison; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The public will be received Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

ERWIN -- Alonzo Smith, 73, of Route 1 died Friday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn.

TABOR CITY -- Mrs. Pearline Soles Simmons, 78, of Tabor City died Friday.

James W. McDaniel (dated Saturday, July 17, 1999)
Retired Army Chief Warrant Officer James Williams McDaniel, 80, of 6311 Kincross Ave., Fayetteville, died Thursday in his home.
Mr. McDaniel was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Arran Lakes Baptist Church by the Rev. Jeff Isenhour. Burial with military honors will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.
Mr. McDaniel is survived by his wife, Mary J. McDaniel of the home; a daughter, Pamela C. Bertha of Springfield, Va.; three sons, Donald W. McDaniel of Wake Forest, David A. McDaniel of Greenville and Daryl J. McDaniel of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

BENSON -- Marion Dean ‘‘Mann’’ King Jr., 27, of 1030 Five Points Road died Friday.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Friendship Baptist Church cemetery by Brother Mack Fowler.
Mr. King is survived by a son, Zachary King of Clayton; his parents, Marion D. and Lucille H. King of Benson; a brother, Richard Lewis of Benson; a sister, Teresa King of Benson; and his maternal grandmother, Edith Munn of Roanoke Rapids.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Rose & Graham Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Marion and Lucille King.

Woodrow W. Holder (dated Saturday, July 17, 1999)
SANFORD -- Woodrow W. Holder, 81, of 118 Rod Sullivan Road died Monday in Central Carolina Hospital.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Flat Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Gordon West. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.
Mr. Holder is survived by his wife, Minnie H. Holder; a daughter, Frances Eastridge of Sanford; and a brother, Lynn Holder of San Angelo, Texas.

LUMBERTON -- Owen Harrison, 85, of 412 Columbia Ave. died Thursday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Doris Harrison of Lumberton; five sons, Eugene F. Harrison, Larry W. Harrison, Jimmy R. Harrison and Luther P. Harrison, all of Lumberton, and Tony M. Harrison of Bladenboro; three daughters, Mary Connor of Lumberton, Loretta Jernigan of Hamlet and Elizabeth ‘‘Beth’’ Harrison of Baltimore; a sister, Ann Knight of Jacksonville, Fla.; 28 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Alvis R. Griffin (dated Saturday, July 17, 1999)
Alvis Ray Griffin, 75, of 210 Rivenoak Drive, Fayetteville, died Friday.
Mr. Griffin was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church. He was a field auditor for the North Carolina Dept. of Revenue before retiring. He was a member of John Huske Anderson Lodge No. 731, Clifford Ovell Lodge No. 756 and the Fayetteville Moose Lodge.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Highland Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Leighton McKeithen and W.G. ‘‘Bill‘’ Martin. Entombment will be in LaFayette Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mr. Griffin is survived by a son, A. Ray Griffin Jr. of Danville, Va.; a brother, Ernest O. Griffin of Seven Springs; and a granddaughter.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Mrs. Donnie Ella Singletary Graham, 75, of 157 N. Elliot Walk, 6E, formerly of Raeford, N.C., died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, N.C.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in Center Grove Missonary Baptist Church in Red Springs, N.C., by the Rev. Cunningham. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Buie Funeral Home.
Mrs. Graham is survived by six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

RAEFORD -- Mrs. Odessa McEachin Gates Farmer, 97, of 196 Gates Lane died Thursday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church in Wagram by the Revs. S.D. Fairley and Everette Gates. Burial will be in Nazareth Memorial Gardens in Wagram.
Mrs. Farmer is survived by two sons, the Rev. Everette Gates and Hubert Gates, both of Raeford; three stepsons; three daughters, Lizzie Marion and Eva Harrigan, both of Wilmington, Del., and Jacqueline King of Raeford; four stepdaughters; a brother, Clyde McEachin of Raeford; 42 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The public will be received today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home.
