LUMBER BRIDGE -- Duncan Googan Malloy Jr., 83, of 1128 Malloy Road died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Mr. Malloy was a farmer. He was a former Chariman of the Board of the Federal Land Bank in Lumberton. Mr. Malloy was a member of Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church by Dr. John C. Ropp. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
Mr. Malloy is survived by his wife, Marie M. Malloy of the home; a daughter, Ann McDaniel of Banner Elk; a son, Duncan G. Malloy III of Lumber Bridge; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

John J. Murphy

PINEHURST -- John J, Murphy, 76, of 1601 Cabot Circle died Thursday in his home.
Mr. Murphy was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a salesman.
A Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by the Rev. Robert Lawson.
Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Allison Murphy of Pinehurst; four sons, Anthony W. Murphy of Wayne, N.J., J. Kevin Murphy of East Northport, N.Y., Paul A. Murphy of Sparta, N.J., and Brian P. Murphy of Tustin, Calif.; a daughter, Sheila M. Mulcahey of Chicago; three sisters, Margaret Monahan of Lake Konkonkoma, N.Y., and Eileen Gordon of Englewood, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home & Crematory of Pinehurst.

Mrs. Martha H. Coats

FOUR OAKS -- Mrs. Martha Horton Coats, 70, of 670 Berea Church Road died Friday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Mrs. Coats was a retired dietitian and nurse’s aide. She was a member of Sr. Mary’s Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church by the Revs. Aubrey Williamson and Billy Nowell. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Coats is survived by two daughters, Lesia C. Raynor of Dunn and Wanda C. Norris of Charleston, S.C.; a son, Robbie A. Coats Jr. of Raleigh; four sisters, Agnes H. Ingram of Benson, Eula Mae H. Allen of Four Oaks, Bobbie H. Ammons of Roseboro and Faye H. Brooks of Bennettsville, S.C.; a brother, C. Sherrill Horton of Four Oaks; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Gilbert W. Stump

Gilbert Wayne Stump, 42, 3203 Marigold Drive, Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Funeral Service & Crematory by the Rev. Jim Ponder.
Mr. Stump is survived by his wife, Cornelia G. Stump; two daughters, Connie Casey and Tara Carnes, both of Fayetteville; his mother, Jean Stump of Fayetteville; two brothers, Bill Stump and Dar Stump, both of Fayetteville; a sister, Delores Ponder of Fayetteville; his paternal grandmother, Annie Stump of Gassaway, W. Va.; and four grandchildren.

Thomas Haynesworth Jr., 48, of 820-A Varsity Drive, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Good Hope Baptist Church by Dr. Samuel McDonald Jr. Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Mr. Haynesworth is survived by his wife, Mary C. Haynesworth of the home; three sons, Thomas D. Haynesworth, Aaron Haynesworth and David Mariable, all of Fayetteville; a brother, Nathaniel McDonald of Fayetteville; three sisters, Dorothy Ruff, Mary K. McDonald and Annie Haynesworth, all of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren.
The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

LUMBERTON -- Jack Hal Moody, 64, of 2968 N.C. 41 South died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Moody was a partner and manager with Lindsey-Campbell Oil Co. He was a member of Centerville Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Centerville Baptist Church by the Revs. Ed Wilcox and Dougald McLaurin. Burial will be in Floyd Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont.
Mr. Moody is survived by his wife, Faye A. Moody of the home; two sons, Jack H. Moody Jr. of Lumberton and John S. Powell of Fairmont; three daughters, Jane Powell of the home and Norma Walters and Jenny Middleton, both of Pine Level; his mother, Addie A. Moody of Lake View, S.C.; five brothers, Gene Moody, Maurice Moody, Neil Moody, Lynn Moody and Greg Moody, all of Lake View, S.C.; four sisters, Ann Cook, Maudine Sanderson and Luna F. Moody, all of Lake View, and Martha Britt of Marion, S.C.; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by a daughter, Renee Snipes of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a son, Randy Lewis of Fayetteville; her mother, Noma Cashwell of Autryville; a brother, Robert Cashwell of Autryville; and a grandson.

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Myrtle C. ‘‘Aunt Mert’’ Maynor, 86, of 2905 Olsen Drive died Friday in Wesley Pines Retirement Center.
Mrs. Maynor was a homemaker. She was a member of Saddletree Church of God. Arrangements are being handled by Biggs Funeral Home.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Saddletree Church of God by the Revs. Millard Maynor, Kenneth Locklear, Ronald Scott and R. D. Sykes. Burial will be in Burnt Swamp Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Maynor is survived by her husband, Jordan Maynor of Pembroke; four sons, Glenn Maynor and Leon Maynor, both of Lumberton, and Craven Hunt and Herman Hunt, both of Baltimore; two brothers, Cleveland Chavis of St. Pauls and Eli Chavis Jr. of Baltimore; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

RED SPRINGS -- Charles Anthony Smiling, 40, of Red Springs died Saturday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Mr. Smiling is survived by his wife, Carrie Smiling; three stepson, Junior Colville of Laurel Hill and Ricky Colville and Albert Colville, both of Red Springs; two stepdaughters, Lori Colville and Velvet Williamson, both of Red Springs; three brothers, Eddie W. Smiling of Maxton, Andrew Smiling of Laurinburg and Michael Smiling of Shannon; and three sisters, Shirley Henderson of Red Springs and Vicky Locklear and Deborah Maynor, both of Maxton.

Mrs. Lena Bell Beaney-Willis, 79, of 1054 Center St., Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Cross Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Hamilton-Porter Funeral Home.
Mrs. Beaney-Willis is survived by two daughters, Sarah Currie of St. Pauls and Lucille Bryant of Fayetteville; three sons, Charles Bryant, Harry Bryant and Bobby Bryant; and five grandchildren.

Ms. Susan A. Cates, 40, of 4009 Village Drive, Fayetteville, died Friday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Cates was a registered nurse with the Cumberland County Health Department.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel by Dr. Bruce Martin. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Cates is survived by a son, Jason Cates of the home; her mother, Doris Cates of Fayetteville; and a sister, Deanna Cates of Hillsborough.

Ms. Wilson is survived by several nieces and nephews.
