David R. Allen

RALEIGH -- David Ray Allen, 63, of 1701 Bellmeade St., formerly of Johnston County, died Sunday in his home.

Mr. Allen was an Army veteran.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Elevation United Methodist Church in Benson by the Revs. Bobby Smith and Ronnie LaFevers. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.

Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Janice D. Allen; two daughters, Terry A. Hobbs and Karen A. Wood, both of Benson; his mother, Mildred A. Howell of Benson; and a granddaughter.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson and at other times at the home of Terry A. and Robert Hobbs, 1115 W. Pope St., Benson.

Memorials may be made to Elevation United Methodist Church building fund, attention Beverly Allen, 1426 Federal Road, Benson, N.C. 27504.

Arthur McLamb Jr.

DUNN -- Arthur ‘‘Peanut’’ McLamb Jr., 53, of 2338 Jonesboro Road died Sunday

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in West & Dunn Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Kemp Young. Burial will be in the Tart family cemetery.

Mr. McLamb is survived by his wife, Janifa McLamb; a daughter, Samantha Pope of Coats; a son, Alfred M. Hyatt Jr. of Dunn; two sisters, Ida M. McLamb of Dunn and Rachel Stewart of Florida; two brothers, Danford McLamb of Dunn and Bryan McLamb of Four Oaks; and a grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at West & Dunn Funeral Home in Benson.

Mrs. Grethel M. Embler

Mrs. Grethel Mullinax Embler, 71, of 414 Libeth Place, Fayetteville, died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel by Pastor David Bibey. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson, S.C.

Mrs. Embler is survived by two daughters, Nancy E. Black of Southern Pines and Frances E. Zerbe of Cooper City, Fla.; a sister, Patricia M. Moorhead of Cedar Creek; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Kurt M. Hebler

COATS -- Kurt M. Hebler, 41, of Coats died Saturday.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Peace Presbyterian Church in Cary by the Revs. Stephen Bostrom, Tim Habbershon and Ted Trefsgar. Arrangements are being handled by O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home of Lillington.

Mr. Hebler is survived by his wife, Terri N. Hebler of the home; a daughter, Jessica Hebler of the home; two sons, Adam Hebler and Joseph Hebler, both of the home; his mother, Juanita P. Hebler of Petersburg, Va.; a sister, Carol H. Long of Old Church, Va.; and a brother, Gregory W. Hebler of Culpeper, Va.

Homer L. Benton

BLADENBORO -- Homer Lee Benton, 83, of 507 Britt St. died Monday in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in New Light Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie Cox. Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery.

Mr. Benton is survived by his wife, Irene B. Benton of the home; a son, Tony Benton of Bladenboro; two daughters, Alta J. Freeman of Wilmington and Annis Dove of Charlotte; a stepbrother, Billie Benton of Wilmington; a stepsister, Leona Tripp of Ashe; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Lewis Funeral Home.

Ms. Catherine Westbrook

CLINTON -- Ms. Catherine Elizabeth Cain Westbrook, 72, of 2648 Basstown Road died Sunday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

Ms. Westbrook was a homemaker.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grandview Memorial Park by the Rev. Charles R. Jernigan.

Ms. Westbrook is survived by two sisters, Marjorie Rayle of Greensboro and Debbie Wiggins of Clinton; and two brothers, James E. Cain of Greensboro and Thomas A. Cain of West Lake, La.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.

Ms. Thelma J. Rickard

(dated Tuesday, May 25, 1999)
SANFORD -- Ms. Thelma Arrington Johnson Rickard, 82, of 517 Weatherspoon St. died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Tommy Smith. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Ms. Rickard is survived by three sons, Joe B. Johnson and Ray Johnson, both of Sanford, and Roger Johnson of Lancaster, S.C.; two stepsons, Lowell Rickard and Carroll Rickard, both of Sanford; three stepdaughters, Rae N. Hix of Jamestown, Peggy Aleshire of Trinity and Rita Cameron of Southern Pines; a brother, Fred Arrington of Siler City; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

William R. Smith Jr.

Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class William Robert Smith Jr., 51, of 7021 Timbercroft Lane, Fayetteville, died Friday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Wiseman Mortuary chapel. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Carolyn Smith of the home; two sons, Michael Smith and William R. Smith III, both of Fayetteville; a daughter, Wendy Reed of Kansas; two sisters, Roberta Smith of Knoxville, Tenn., and Ethel Smith of Chicago; and a grandchild.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Curlie Ingram

LAURINBURG -- Curlie Ingram, 82, of Route 1 died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Morris Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. James C. McLean.

Mr. Ingram is survived by a son, J.C. McQueen of Marston; a daughter, Willie L. McInnis of Laurinburg; five sisters, Mildred Davis of Alliance, Olivia Baldwin, Juanita Barnes and Bessie Morrison, all of Paterson, N.J., and Susie Pipkin of Laurinburg; and a brother, Sandy Moore of Laurinburg.

Ms. Eula M. Hairr

(dated Tuesday, May 25, 1999)
STEDMAN -- Ms. Eula Mae Hairr, 91, of Stedman died Sunday in Fayetteville Health Center.

Ms. Hairr was a member of Baptist Chapel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Baptist Chapel Baptist Church by the Revs. Alan Roberts and Adam Hatley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Hairr is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lewis was a sales representative for Best Way Insulation.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Biggs Funeral Home chapel in Lumberton by the Rev. Robert Britt. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jean W. and Jerry S. Harden Sr. of Fairmont; his father and stepmother, Johnny and Jan Lewis of Bladenboro; a half brother, Matt Lewis of Bladenboro; a stepsister, Tonya H. Zitvogel of Lumberton; and a stepbrother, Jerry S. Harden Jr. of Shallotte.

Mrs. Edith F. Baber

(dated Tuesday, May 25, 1999)
SPRING LAKE -- Mrs. Edith Florette ‘‘Polly’’ Baber, 69, of 440 N. Grogg St. died Sunday in her home.

Mrs. Baber was a member of Central Baptist Church. She was the head cashier at the Fort Bragg Commissary for 28 years before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Central Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Brack. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

Mrs. Baber is survived by her husband, Clyde H. Baber Sr. of Spring Lake; two daughters, Barbara Harkey of Spring Lake and Debra Flaningan of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; two sons, Clyde H. Baber Jr. of Linden and James H. Baber of Lillington; a brother, Jack Waldron of Hartsville, S.C.; two sisters, Virginia Kohl of Hartsville and Bettie Grainger of Monks Corner, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Adcock Funeral Home.

Hosie Sampson

LUMBERTON -- Hosie Sampson, 78, of 644 Eddie Sampson Road died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Pembroke Gospel Chapel by Brothers Charles Oxendine and Cleo Maynor and the Revs. Jerry McNeill and Ted Brooks. Burial will be in Lumbee Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Sampson is survived by his wife, Mary R. Sampson of the home; two sons, Roger D. Sampson and Brandon L. Sampson, both of Lumberton; three daughters, Racheal Locklear and Julika Locklear, both of Lumberton, and Lorie A. Staples of Colorado; a brother, Bracey Sampson of Lumberton; a sister, Strawdie Dimery of Florida; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Percy C. Currin

Percy Clifton Currin, 85, of 7165 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, died Monday in Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Currin was a farmer.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel by elder Worth Stephenson. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Currin is survived by his wife, Pearl A. Currin of the home; a son, Tony Currin of Fayetteville; a daughter, Carole G. Shackelford of Goldsboro; three brothers, Ossie Currin of Willow Springs and Grady Currin and O.B. Currin Jr., both of Angier; a sister, Betty B. Wallace of Angier; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
