McCOLL, S.C. -- Mrs. Ollie Lee Leggett Smith, 60, of 3604 Peabridge Road, formerly of Laurinburg, died Wednesday in Marlboro Park Hospital in Bennettsville.

Arrangements will be announced by Jackson Funeral Home of Laurinburg.

William H. Bradford Jr. (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

William H. Bradford Jr., 34, of 1312 Chedington Road, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Larry Smith-Cooper Funeral Home of Mullins, S.C.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Lacy Ford, Scott Street, Lake View, S.C.

Mrs. Banna L. Ayers (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

SUMTER, S.C. -- Mrs. Banna Linker Ayers, 90, of Sumter, formerly of Concord, N.C., died Wednesday in Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Ayers family cemetery in Rowland, N.C., by the Rev. Michael C. Bell. Arrangements are being handled by Elmore-Hill-McCreight Funeral Home of Sumter.

Mrs. Ayers is survived by a son, Dr. Ernest G. Ayers Jr. of Sumter; a daughter, Jean A. Skidmore of Montreat, N.C.; two sisters, Virgie McLean and Margie Brown, both of Charoltte, N.C.; two brothers, Howard Linker and Henry Linker, both of Charlotte; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ms. Helen Q. Raeford (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

WENDELL -- Ms. Helen Queenie Raeford, 45, of Wendell, formerly of Sanford, died Tuesday in Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Arrangements will be announced by Watson Mortuary of Sanford.

The family will receive friends at 1403 Pinehurst St., Sanford.

Mrs. Annie G. Burns (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Mrs. Annie M. Gillespie Burns, 47, of 6737 N.C. 41 West died Monday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Mt. Zion AME Zion Church by the Revs. Florence S. Brown and Ned Graham. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Burns is survived by her husband, Kirby Burns of the home; a daughter, Tina L. Burns of Elizabethtown; a son, Dwight A. Burns of Elizabethtown; a sister, Vivian Wade of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Wilbert Gillespie and Larry Gillespie, both of Elizabethtown; and one grandson.

The family will receive friends today from noon to 8 p.m. at F.W. Newton & Sons Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to McKoy’s Chapel First Born Holiness Church, Dublin, N.C. 28332.

Clyde E. Burge (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

SANFORD -- Clyde Eugene Burge, 84, of 1700 Westover Drive died Tuesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mr. Burge was owner and president of Burge Realty, working in real estate for more than 60 years. He was a member of the Sanford Board of Realtors where he was president from 1979-1980 and 1984-1985, as well as a member ot the North Carolina Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors. He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Ephesus Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert H. Morrison Jr. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Mr. Burge is survived by his wife, Mattie P. Burge; a stepdaughter, Sharon Tibbitts of Thailand; a stepson, Alfred Phillips of Holden Beach; three sisters, Jeanette Jobe of Durham, Glenola Williams of Fayetteville and Nina Grogan of Springfield, Va.; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Giddeons.

Mrs. Fannie H. Griffin (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

SANFORD -- Mrs. Fannie Howard Griffin, 96, of 923 Buckhorn Road died Tuesday in her home.

She was the oldest member of Baptist Chapel Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Baptist Chapel Baptist Church by the Revs. George Stallings and Thomas Lee. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Griffin is survived by a daughter, Agnes G. McNeil of Sanford; a son, Howard Griffin of Sanford; a sister, Helen Holt of Sanford; two grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and at other times at the home.

Lawrence E. Murchison (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Lawrence Edward Murchison, 61, of Brooklyn, formerly of Raeford, N.C., died Sunday in Brooklyn.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Freedom Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Ray P. Owens. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Murchison is survived by two daughters, Loretta Murchison of Heightsville, Md., and Tonya F. “Chappell” Gillard of Statesville, N.C.; a son, Edward Murchison of Brooklyn; two sisters, the Rev. Hattie M. McRae of Raeford and Cathleen Synder of Brooklyn; four brothers, Charles Murchison of Raeford, Willie J. Murchison of Brooklyn, John A. Murchison of Oxen Hill, Md., and Ernest Murchison of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Doby Funeral Home in Raeford.

Mrs. Marian S. Hargrove (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

Mrs. Marian Elizabeth Smith Hargrove, 82, of 610 Hillsboro St., Fayetteville, died Sunday in Columbia Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Smith Chapel Free Will Baptist Church by Elder Elijah Fulcher III. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Hargrove is survived by two sons, Demetrius T. Clark of Honolulu and Edward D. Hargrove of Raleigh; a daughter, Deborah H. McNair of the home; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Wiseman Mortuary.

Mrs. Anna T. Marion (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

RAEFORD -- Mrs. Anna Marie Tkach Marion, 80, of Raeford died Wednesday in Open Arms Rest Home.

Arrangements will be announced by Crumpler Funeral Home.

Bromley P. Thornton (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

CLINTON -- Bromley Parker Thornton, 67, of 118 McCullen Road died Wednesday in his home.

He was a farmer, an Air Force veteran and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Piney Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Joel Story. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife, Melrose T. Thornton of the home; a son, Will P. Thornton of Wilmington; a daughter, Helen T. Smith of Raleigh; two brothers, Eldon Thornton and Bobby Thornton, both of Faison; and two sisters, Miriam T. Gore and Harriette T. Hobbs, both of Clinton.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to Piney Grove Baptist Church or to a favorite charity.

Eddie ‘Norris’ Zurcher (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Eddie Dean “Norris” Zurcher of Louisville, formerly of Lumberton, N.C., died Nov. 20 in Louisville.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today in Living Faith Fellowship Church. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory of Lumberton.

Mr. Zurcher is survived by two sisters, Betty Brooks of Raleigh and Flora Louise of Rock Hill, S.C.; and two brothers, James “Tom” Zurcher and Benjamin Zurcher, both of Lumberton.

Mrs. Helen Bryant (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

Mrs. Helen Bryant, 50, of Route 7, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in her home.

Arrangements will be announced by H.M. Colvin Funeral Home.

Earl Eason (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

TEMPLE HILLS, Md. -- Earl Eason of Temple Hills, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Wednesday in Prince George Community Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Tucker & Sons Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

Mrs. Jessie B. Conner (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Jessie Baxley Conner, 72, of 2180 Regan Church Road died Monday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Arrangements will be announced by Biggs Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thara C. Fennell (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

WILLARD -- Mrs. Thara Costin Fennell, 86, of 2689 Wilmington Highway, formerly of Fayetteville, died Sunday in Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Roseville Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. L.R. Faison. Burial will be in the Costin family cemetery in Ivanhoe. Arrangements are being handled by Dunn Funeral Home of Burgaw.

Mrs. Fennell is survived by two sons, Clyde C. Fennell of Fayetteville and James R. Fennell of Willard; a daughter, Hattie M. Fennell of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Herbert G. Costin of Ivanhoe; two sisters, Lossie C. Smith of Pittsburgh and Ruth M. Gist of Washington, D.C.; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

William H. Mason (dated Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997)

LINDEN -- William Henry Mason, 68, of Route 1 died Tuesday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

He was a retired highway construction engineer for Crowell Paving Construction Co. of Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Palestine Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William Bateman. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mason is survived by three daughters, Deborah A. Albanese, Linda Driggers and Lisa Connell, all of Linden; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Skinner Funeral Home in Dunn.

Mrs. E.M. Hammonds (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

WHITEVILLE -- Mrs. Esther Mae Hammonds, 81, of Rose Hill community died Friday in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Prong Chapel Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. James Smith. Burial will be in George Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hammonds is survived by three sisters, Sarah S. Pridgen of Whiteville, Sally M. Arnette of Abbottsburg and Betty J. Marsh of Bladenboro; and three brothers, Robert L. Shipman of Whiteville, Gaddy Shipman of California and Lacy Shipman of Chicago.
