HOPE MILLS -- Thomas Aaron Byrd, 36, of 1112 Windmill Road died Monday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Reeves Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Gary Strickland. Burial will be in Adcox Cemetery.

Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife, Sandra Byrd; a daughter, Misty Byrd of the home; a sister, Misty Nolon of California; and his grandmother, Occardelia Bryant of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Owen ‘Jinks’ Kotz (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

STEDMAN -- Army Reserves Maj. Owen “Jinks” Kotz, 36, of 139 Carol St. died Tuesday in North Carolina Baptist Hospitals in Winston-Salem.

Mr. Kotz was a retired systems information manager for the 18th Personnel Group on Fort Bragg. He was an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Hay Street United Methodist Church by the Revs. Carl Frazier and Phillip Spears. Burial will be at noon in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Mr. Kotz is survived by his wife, Dee A. Kotz of Stedman; a son, Andy Kotz of Stedman; a daughter, Ashley Kotz of Stedman; his parents, John and Zathia Kotz of Panama City, Fla.; a brother, Jerry Kotz of Kapaau, Hawaii; and a sister, Terry L. Slater of Henderson, Nev.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Mrs. Berter L. Cummings (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Berter Locklear Cummings, 88, of 1020 Deluca St. died Tuesday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Thompson’s Funeral Home of Pembroke.

Sam ‘Buddy’ Clark Jr. (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

FAIRMONT -- Sam “Buddy” Clark Jr., 66, of Route 1, Box 5, died Monday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Liberty Baptist Church by the Revs. Keith Hunt and Ronald Locklear. Burial will be in New Point Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Sallie M. Clark of the home; two sons, JR. Dale Clark of Lumberton and Billy E. Clark of the home; four daughters, Lorinda C. “Cookie” Sanderson and Lenora J. Clark, both of Lumberton, and Ann C. Hunt and Alpana M. “Sam” Oxendine, both of Fairmont; four sisters, Josephine “Sarah” Carpenter of Fairmont, Mary Ripple of Spring Lake, Isabele McGirt of Lumberton and Della L. Ziegler of Fairmont; two brothers, Alford Clark of Charlotte and Howard Clark of Fairmont; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Prevatte Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Herman G. Brisson (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

ST. PAULS -- Herman Gene Brisson, 61, of 426 N. Second St., Apt. 25, died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

He retired from Burlington Industries.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in McNeill Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Tony Wilson. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Brisson is survived by two aunts.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Helen G. Wilburn (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

PARKTON -- Mrs. Helen Gay Wilburn, 57, of 158 S. Green St. died Monday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

She was a former assistant manager for the Poco Shop.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Parkton Baptist Church by the Revs. Raymond Wade and Larry Grady. Burial will be in Parkton Cemetery.

Mrs. Wilburn is survived by two daughters, Louisa Martin and Ruth Johnson, both of Parkton; two sons, William C. Wilburn of Parkton and James Wilburn of Coats; seven brothers, Edward Ford, Leo Ford Jr., David M. Ford and Johnny Ford, all of Durham, Billy E. Ford of Lexington, S.C., Kevin Ford of St. Pauls and Kelly Ford of Germany; three sisters, Kathy Barefoot of Parkton, Lisa Pittman of Durham and Karen Wade of Greensboro; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McNeill Funeral Home in St. Pauls and at other times at 249 S. Green St., Parkton.

Mrs. Mary M. Copling (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

LILLINGTON -- Mrs. Mary M. Copling, 94, of Route 6, Box 420, died Monday in Harnett Manor Nursing Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Greens Chapel Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. G.D. McNeil Jr. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Dunn. Arrangements are being handled by Dafford Funeral Home of Dunn.

Mrs. Copling is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The public will be received Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

Karol Niciejewski (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

Karol Niciejewski, 65, of 430 Gillespie St., Fayetteville, died Dec. 3 in his home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Adcox Cemetery in Hope Mills. Arrangements are being handled by Cape Fear Crematory.

Mrs. Bessie C. Terry (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

HAMLET -- Mrs. Bessie C. Terry, 81, of 418 Peggy Mill Road died Friday in Hamlet Hospital.

She was a member of Green Chapel AME Zion Church and retired from Perdue in Rockingham.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Green Chapel AME Zion Church by the Revs. Kirby Woodard and Flemming Byrd. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Nelson Funeral Service.

Mrs. Terry is survived by two daughters, Ethel M. Terry of the home and Elizabeth Baker of Winston-Salem; three sons, William J. Terry of Winston-Salem, Cletus M. Terry of Rockingham and Charles Terry of Hamlet; three sisters, Odessa Brown and Hattie D. Chappell, both of Hamlet, and Leola Sellers of Bennettsville, S.C.; and a brother, Howard Campbell of Hyattsville, Md.

Mrs. Lenora T. Williams (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

SANFORD -- Mrs. Lenora T. Williams, 31, of 305 Winding Ridge Road died Sunday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Mt. Nebo Freewill Baptist Church by Elder J.H. Fairley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Tony Williams; a daughter, Toshonda Williams of the home; her parents, James and Margaret Tomlinson of Lemon Springs; two sisters, Judie Williams and Vicky Lee, both of Sanford; and two brothers, James A. Tomlinson and Anthony Tomlinson, both of Sanford.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Watson Mortuary and at other times at 8413 Pilson Road, Sanford.

Ms. Patricia A. McNeil (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

CARTHAGE -- Ms. Patricia A. McNeil, 36, of Carthage died Friday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of Cameron by the Rev. Warren Person. Burial will be in Green Grove Cemetery.

Ms. McNeil is survived by two daughters, Tonya R. McNeil of Raeford and Jeanette L. McNeil of Carthage; two sons, Anthony Scott and Randy L. McNeil, both of Carthage; her mother, Jessie D. McNeil of Carthage; a sister, Debra McNeil of Sanford; and three brothers, Walter McNeil of Springfield, Mass., and Clarence McNeil and Timothy McNeil, both of Carthage.

The public will be received today from 2 to 8 p.m. at Purcell Funeral Home in Southern Pines.

Samuel E. Conners (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

Retired Sgt. 1st Class Samuel E. Conners of 7650 Glenbrook Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.

Arrangements will be announced by Rogers & Breece Funeral Home.

Walter Sinclair (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

Walter Sinclair, 40, of 213 Hope Mills Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Wiseman Mortuary.

John B. Mazzola (dated Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997)

John Baptistta Mazzola, 90, of 242 Whitney Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Highland House Nursing Home.

He had worked 25 years as a route salesman for Verne’s Cleaners and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church by Father John Durbin. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers & Breece Funeral Home.

Mr. Mazzola is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Panacciulli of Long Island, N.Y.; two sons, Vincent Mazzola of Easton, Md., and John Mazzola Jr. of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Haven, 3927 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville, N.C. 28303, or to St. Judes Children’s Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605.

Robert ‘Jack’ Coleman (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

BLADENBORO -- Robert Edgar “Jack” Coleman, 67, of Bladenboro died Tuesday in Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Zion Hill Baptist Church by the Revs. Robert Boone, Bruce Cannon and James B. Hardee. Burial will be in Singletary Cemetery in Butters.

Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife, Margaret D. Coleman of the home; three sons, Jackie Coleman and Andy Coleman, both of Bladenboro, and Edgar Coleman of Newport News, Va.; three brothers, F.J. Lee of Nakina, and Herbert Coleman and Fred Coleman, both of Aylmer, Ontario Canada; two sisters, Mabel Simmons of Whiteville and Tilda Potate of Lake Waccamaw; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Lewis Funeral Home.

Charlie O. Cain (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

SANFORD -- Charlie Otis Cain, 87, of 145 J.D. Murchison Lane died Monday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Pilgrim’s Rest Church of the Living Word in Olivia by Overseer Chenner Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Horton Funeral Home.

Mr. Cain is survived by his wife, Latha Cain of the home; four sons, Gary Cain, Johnny Cain and Robert Cain, all of Sanford, and Larry Cain of Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Joyce Cain of Sanford; two sisters, Mildred Williams of Sanford and Joyce Bouleware of Winston-Salem; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary D. Hardebeck (dated Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997)

SOUTHERN PINES -- Mrs. Mary Donovan Hardebeck, 87, of Southern Pines died Wednesday in St. Joseph of the Pines.

Services were held in Pinelawn Memorial Park. Arrangements were handled by Powell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hardebeck is survived by a brother, Larence C. Donovan of Westerville, Ohio.
