RED SPRINGS -- Mrs. Irene McNeill, 89, of 100 N. College St. died Tuesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
Arrangements will be announced by Crumpler Funeral Home of Red Springs.
Mrs. Lillian C. Strickland (dated Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997)
FAIRMONT -- Mrs. Lillian Caulder Strickland, 63, of 512 Bailey Road died Wednesday in her home.
She was a member of Life Line Church of God.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Life Line Church of God in Lumberton by the Revs. Billy Stockton, Troy Wilhelm and Rembert. Burial will be in Floyd Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Strickland is survived by her husband, Monroe Strickland of the home; two sons, Jerry M. Strickland of Fairmont and Bobby G. Strickland of Florence, S.C.; two brothers, Earl Caulder of Fairmont and Badger Caulder of Orrum; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Floyd Funeral Services and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Ernestine Oates (dated Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997)
HOPE MILLS -- Mrs. Ernestine Oates, 83, of 127 Porter Road died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in Cumberland Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Ronald Loftis.
Mrs. Oates is survived by a son, Garland Oates of Beavercreek, Ohio; a daughter, Diana Ramsay of Toccoa, Ga.; a sister, Janice Morgan of Fayetteville; a brother, Clyde Skipper of Baraboo, Wis.; and one grandson.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home.

Mrs. Belle McPhatter (dated Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997)
RED SPRINGS -- Mrs. Belle McPhatter, 92, of 22-A Westgate Apartments died Monday.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Spring Branch Baptist Church in Wagram by the Rev. John Daniels. Burial will be in McGill Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Morris Funeral Home of Laurinburg.
Mrs. McPhatter is survived by three daughters, Mary L. McPhatter and Judy McPhatter, both of the home, and Maggie B. McNeill of New York; three sons, Sam J. McPhatter of Durham, Henry McPhatter of Southern Pines and John McPhatter of Decatur, Ga.; 28 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the home.

LAURINBURG -- Leo Pankey Sr., 62, of Laurinburg died Monday in Century Care Nursing Home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Allen Chapel AME Church by the Rev. Vernell McAdoo. Burial will be in the Pankey family cemetery.
Mr. Pankey is survived by his wife, Katie Pankey of Pensacola, Fla.; three sons, Leo Pankey Jr. of Cincinnati, Lenzie Pankey of Laurinburg and Tony A. Pankey of Pensacola; a daughter, Cynthia K. Pankey of Pensacola; four brothers, John Pankey and Howard Pankey, both of Laurinburg, Lock W. Pankey of Queens, N.Y., and Freddie Pankey of New York; a sister, Esther Lafayette of New York; and 10 grandchildren.

Mrs. Mattie M. Steele (dated Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997)
MAXTON -- Mrs. Mattie Bell McQueen Steele, 86, of 133 W. Carolina St. died Tuesday in her home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Jackson Funeral Home chapel in Rowland by the Rev. Jesse Peacock. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Steele is survived by a sister, Irene McQueen of Philadelphia; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Alberta L. Williams (dated Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997)
LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Alberta Littles Williams, 77, of 1216 Cornelia St. died Dec. 21 in her home.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Joseph Temple AME Church by the Rev. Jas Hemby. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams is survived by three daughters, Denver Williams of the home, Lucinda Williams of Laurinburg and Danzie Williams of Bornwell, S.C.; a son, Carl L. Williams of Laurinburg; three sisters, Maggie Ellison and Recie Williams, both of Laurinburg, and Sallie M. Covington of Little Rock, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Benjamin Pittman, 60, 1051 Huggins St., Fayetteville, died Monday in his home.

Mr. Pittman is survived by his wife, Betty Pittman of the home; two sons, Benjamin Pittman Jr. and Don Pittman; a daughter, Jeannette Adams; his father, Jerry Pittman II; three brothers, Bishop Jerry W. Pittman and Lee E. Pittman, both of Tarboro, and Eddie L. Pittman of Raleigh; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Retired Air Force Staff Sgt. Freddie L. Kelsey Jr., 62, of Lake City, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Friday.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Wiseman Mortuary chapel in Fayetteville by Chaplain Harlon Triplett. Burial will be in the Main Post Cemetery at Fort Bragg, N.C.
Mr. Kelsey is survived by his wife, Johnnie M. Kelsey of Fayetteville; two sons, Kalani Kelsey and Sgt. Edward Kelsey, both of Texas; two daughters, Frederika Watson of Philadelphia and Nadine Bryant of North Carolina; his mother, St. McZell Wilcox of Clay County, Fla.; a brother, David Kelsey of Florida; two sisters, Bessie Kelsey and Letha Johnson, both of Clay County; and 12 grandchildren.

SANFORD -- James Oliver Russ, 72, of 125 Petty Road died Tuesday in Central Carolina Hospital.

Mr. Russ is survived by his wife, Olga H. Russ; a son, Sherwin Russ of Davie, Fla.; four daughters, Scarlett R. Stone and Elena R. Register, both of Sanford, Sharlyn R. Sifford of Rockwell and Gayle R. Medlin of Monticello, Ark.; a brother, Jessie Russ of Tabor City; two sisters, Pearlie Norris of Tabor City and Sadie Williams of Rock Hill, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Packer is survived by his wife, Bonnie M. Packer of the home; three daughters, McQuet Kappel, Maria Kappel and McQuill Kappel, all of Homer, La.; a stepdaughter, Paula Shambach of Fayetteville; a stepson, C.P. Smith of the home; and six grandchildren.

BUNNLEVEL -- Mrs. Gertrude Bell McCormick, 51, of Route 1 died Friday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Cape Fear A Conference Headquarters Facility in Erwin by the Rev. Otis McNeill. Burial will be in Kingfield Cemetery in Linden. Arrangements are being handled by Dafford Funeral Home of Dunn.
Mrs. McCormick is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Jamison of Fayetteville and Ursula McCormick of Bunnlevel; her parents, Evans and Narcissus Bell of Bunnlevel; five brothers, James E. Bell and Curtis Bell, both of Bunnlevel, Lawrence Bell of Sanford, Apurnell Bell of Goldsboro and Charles Massey of Dunn; six sisters, Lula Chance and Martha Dawson, both of Bunnlevel, Mary Ann Lett and Mary Bell Swann, both of Sanford, Elouise Spearman of Lillington and Dorothy Mitchell of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren.

WILMINGTON, Del. -- Mrs. Silas James Ward, 41, of Wilmington, formerly of Johnston County, N.C., died Dec. 17.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Dafford Funeral Home chapel in Dunn, N.C., by Elder Daniel Williams. Burial will be in McNeil Cemetery in Dunn.
Among Mrs. Ward’s survivors is a daughter, Sicara Graham of Dunn; four brothers, Leroy J. Ward and Clyde Ward, both of Benson, N.C., and Lenzy Ward and William Ward, both of Angier, N.C.; and two sisters, Jo Anna Alford of Angier and Lora Giles of Benson.

Mrs. Mary J. Chance (dated Thursday, Dec. 25, 1997)
DUNN -- Mrs. Mary Jane Chance, 62, of 604 N. King Ave. died Dec. 20 in her home.
The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Cape Fear A Conference Headquarters Facility in Erwin by Evangelist Pearl Newton. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Chance is survived by four daughters, Kathy Chance, Willard A. McKoy, LuDonna M. Chance and Patricia G. Young, all of Dunn; a stepdaughter, Tonya Early of Dunn; two sons, William L. Chance of Dunn and Charles B. Chance of Baltimore; a stepson, Clarence T. McKeithan of Dunn; a brother, Paul Williams of Dunn; a sister, Guster McKoy of Dunn; 15 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
