ROSEBORO -- J.D. Council, 74, of 5710 Roseboro Highway died Monday in Harnett Manor Nursing Center in Lillington.

Arrangements will be announced by Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home of Clinton.

Ronnie L. Mungin (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

Ronnie Lee Mungin, 45, of 1136 Sleepyhollow Drive, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Second Thankful Baptist Church in Estill, S.C., by the Rev. Evan Dobson. Burial will be in Cypress Creek Cemetery in Estill.

Mr. Mungin is survived by three sons, Dereck Mungin, Ronnie Mungin III and Rico Mungin, all of Fayetteville; two brothers, Glenn Bowen of West Germany and Michael Mungin of Fayetteville; three sisters, Janet Coleman of Fayetteville, Judith Jay of Bronx, N.Y., and Michelle Hughey of Columbia, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

Mrs. Maggie B. Williams (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

Mrs. Maggie Mae Branch Williams, 83, of 123 Ruth St., Fayetteville, died Saturday in Carrolton of Fayetteville nursing home.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Rock Spring AME Zion Church by the Rev. Henry Morrison. Burial will be in Northside Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams is survived by four daughters, Christine W. McMillian, Mazie L. Harrington, Margaret McMillian and Shirley M. Shaw, all of Fayetteville; five sons, Ervin L. Williams, Paul E. Williams, Earty Williams, Joseph F. Williams and Samuel D. Williams, all of Fayetteville; a sister, Mattie B. Perdie of Fayetteville; two brothers, James Branch and Kermit Branch, both of Fayetteville; 30 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 7 at Wiseman Mortuary and at other times at 307 Forsythe St., Apt. B, Fayetteville.

Herman G. Brisson (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

ST. PAULS -- Herman Gene Brisson, 61, of 426 N. Second St., Apt. 25, died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Arrangements will be announced by McNeill Funeral Home.

Mrs. Helen G. Wilburn (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

PARKTON -- Mrs. Helen Gay Wilburn, 57, of 158 S. Green St. died Monday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Arrangements will be announced by McNeill Funeral Home of St. Pauls.

John B. Mazzola (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

John Baptistta Mazzola, 90, of 609 Wallingford Court, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Highland House Nursing Home.

He was a route salesman for Verne’s Cleaners for 25 years and was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church by Father John Durbin. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Mazzola is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Panacciulli of Long Island, N.Y.; two sons, Vincent Mazzola of Easton, Md., and John Mazzola Jr. of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Haven, 3927 Bragg Blvd., Fayetteville, N.C. 28303.

Thomas A. Byrd (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

HOPE MILLS -- Thomas Aaron Byrd, 36, of 116 Brooklyn Circle died Monday.

Arrangements will be announced by Reeves Funeral Home.

Mrs. Moranda Polk (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

HAMLET -- Mrs. Moranda Polk, 81, of 510 Charlotte St. died Monday in Hamlet Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Nelson Funeral Service.

Grover L. Champion (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

SANFORD -- Grover Lee Champion, 84, of 3013 Byrd Ave. died Sunday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Tramway Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Bostian. Burial will be in Lee Memory Gardens.

Mr. Champion is survived by his wife, Electa S. Champion; three sons, Curtis L. Champion of Broadway, Hubert Champion Sr. of Southport and Donald R. Champion of Maryland; two daughters, Virginia Smith of Sanford and Peggy Flowers of Coats; a sister, Esther Evans of Holly Springs; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Al Covington Jr. (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

BENSON -- Al Covington Jr., 60, of 205 E. Kennedy Circle died Saturday in Raleigh Community Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Cape Fear Conference Headquarters Facility in Erwin by Elder Antonio Chrisp. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Mr. Covington is survived by his wife, Geneva Covington of the home; seven children, Wanice Small, Sarah Sidberry, Phyllis Warren and Charles Covington, all of Benson, Al McAllister of Dunn and Larry Warren and Laral Warren, both of Coats; six sisters, Sarah McDougald of Erwin, Myrtle R. Holmes of Virginia Beach, Va., Dorothy McDougald and Al Lee Covington, both of Benson, Ann C. Holiday of Garner and Geraldine Stewart of Dunn; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 2 to 5 p.m. at Dafford Funeral Home in Dunn. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Benson Chapel Church.

Mrs. Lenora T. Williams (dated Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997)

SANFORD -- Mrs. Lenora T. Williams, 31, of Carolina Lakes died Sunday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Arrangements will be announced by Watson Mortuary.

Mrs. Mary L. Smith (dated Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997)

LAUREL HILL -- Mrs. Mary Louise Smith, 66, of 18520 Marston Road died Sunday in her home.

Mrs. Smith attended Huckabee Grove Emmanuel Holiness Church and was a member of the adult Sunday school class. She was a retired assembly lines worker for Abbott Laboratories.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Huckabee Grove Emmanuel Holiness Church by the Rev. Larry Singletary. Burial will be in Scotland Cemetery in Laurinburg.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, L.J. Smith of the home; a son, Christopher D. Smith of the home; two daughters, Mary A. Woodell of Newnan, Ga., and Brenda S. Smith of Laurinburg; a brother, Willie Davis of Springfield; two sisters, Thelma Roberts of Laurel Hill and Jeanette Priest of Hamlet; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McDougald Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Scotland County, P.O. Box 1033, Laurinburg, N.C. 28353.

Hartwell R. Stewart (dated Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997)

SMITHFIELD -- The Rev. Hartwell Ray Stewart, 80, of 301 W. Wilston St. died Sunday in his home.

Mr. Stewart was a retired minister, serving as pastor of the National Pentecostal Holiness Church in Washington, and the Evangelist Temple in Tulsa, Okla. He was founder and past president of the Pacific Coast Bible College in Sacramento, Calif.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church in Benson by the Revs. J. Doner Lee, T. Elwood Long and L.B. Collins. Entombment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Della W. Stewart; two sons, Jim Stewart of Clayton and David Stewart of Smithfield; four sisters, Kate Chastain and Geneelia Wellons, both of Taylors, S.C., Corrie L. Herndon of Memphis, Tenn., and Rowena Smith of Anderson, S.C.; and one step-grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.

Odell Benson (dated Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997)

BENSON -- Odell Benson, 71, of Benson died Sunday in his home.

He was a retired carpenter.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Fellowship Community Cemetery by the Rev. Billy Cashwell. Arrangements are being handled by Rose & Graham Funeral Home.

Mr. Benson is survived by two brothers, Bennie R. Benson of Angier and Jasper D. Benson of Durham; and three sisters, Willa D. Byrd of Angier, and Shirley F. Byrd and Gertrude Wright, both of Durham.

Mrs. Betty L. MacLeod (dated Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997)

SMITHFIELD -- Mrs. Betty Lanier MacLeod, 71, of 204 McCullers St. died Sunday.

Mrs. MacLeod was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and the church choir. She served as Sunday School teacher and secretary.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Underwood Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Knollwood Memorial Park.

Mrs. MacLeod is survived by her husband, M.B. MacLeod Jr.; a son, Bruce H. MacLeod of Raleigh; two daughters, Beth M. Thompson of Greenville and Kathy M. Coats of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, LaVerne L. Talbert of Charlotte; a brother, J. Hardy Lanier of Louisburg; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Johnston County Public Library, or to the Smithfield Library.

Floyd M. McNeil (dated Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997)

DUNN -- Floyd M. McNeil, 63, of 503 E. Carr St. died Saturday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dafford Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Marion Jones. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.

Mr. McNeil is survived by a daughter, Elaine McDuffie of Dunn; a stepdaughter, Shirley White of Dunn; three stepsons, Larry White, Johnny Smith and James Bell, all of Dunn; and his mother, Lorenia McNeil of Dunn.

The public will be received today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will be present from 7 to 7:30.

Conrad Cameron (dated Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997)

GODWIN -- Conrad Cameron, 54, of 1859 Dumpster Road died Sunday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Arrangements will be announced by Dafford Funeral Home of Dunn.
