Zebulon V. Gordon (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

SOUTHERN PINES -- Zebulon Vance Gordon, 76, of 1385 Pee Dee Road, died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Trinity AME Zion Church by the Rev. Murray L. Edwards. Burial will be in Pinelawn Cemetery.

Mr. Gordon is survived by four sons, Dr. Terry Gordon of Detroit, Army Cpt. Craig Gordon of Louisville, Ky., Army Cpt. Vincent Gordon of Southern Pines and Mark Gordon of Asheville; two sisters, Mable Rush and Carrie Martin, both of Taylortown; and a brother, Sandy Gordon of Taylortown.

The public will be received Sunday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Kendrick Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cornelia A. Meares (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Cornelia Ann Meares, 44, of Singletary Church Road died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Floyd Mortuary and Crematory Memorial Cemetery by the Rev. Mark Meadows.

Mrs. Meares is survived by two sons, William L. Hairr and P.J. Preston Meares, both of Lumberton; her stepfather, Elwood Hairr of Lumberton; her grandmother, Pauline Lewis of Lumberton; a half brother, Kenneth E. Hairr of Lumberton; and one grandchild.

Miss Angel C. Williams (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

CLINTON -- Miss Angel Charity Williams, 3-month-old daughter of Glenwood R. and Carol C. Williams of Clinton died Friday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in New Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Ray Smith. Burial will be in the Colwell family cemetery.

In addition to her parents, Angel is survived by two sisters, Carrie Jones and Catherine Williams, both of Turkey; and her maternal grandparents, Jim and Dorris Colwell of Turkey.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Henry Bryant (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

MAXTON -- Henry Bryant, 75, of Bright Circle Drive, died Friday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Cherokee Chapel Methodist Church by the Revs. James H. Woods, Julian Ransome and Steve Locklear and Brother Jennings Bullard. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Mary L. Bryant; a son, Henry Ronald Bryant; three daughters, Rose Burnette, Dianne B. Belcher and Barbara B. Colbert, all of Maxton; five brothers, Warren “Bill” Bryant, Willie F. Bryant and Samuel Bryant, all of Maxton, Bradford Bryant of Okla, Fla., and Palmer Bryant of Pembroke; four sisters, Nancy Bryant of Laurinburg, Mable Sanderson of Maxton, Erma L. Tessein of Pembroke and Virginia Compton of Concord; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight beginning at 7 at Thompson’s Funeral Home.

Miss Diane Lock (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

Evangelist Diane Lock, 34, of 6116 Regis Court, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Lock’s Creek AME Zion Church in Vander by Bishop George E. Battle Jr. Burial will be in McLaurin Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Wiseman Mortuary.

Miss Lock is survived by her mother, Ruth M. Lock of the home; two brothers, Milton Freeman Jr. and Phillip A. Lock, both of Fayetteville; and two sisters, Kathy M. McEachern and Jacqueline D. Velez, both of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Mrs. Henrietta Barnes (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Henrietta Barnes of Rosewood Drive, died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Mrs. Charlayne R. Stuart (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

SPRING LAKE -- Mrs. Charlayne Rene Stuart, 40, of 1819 Darkwood Drive died Friday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.

Arrangements will be announced by Adcock Funeral Home.

Mrs. Selma M. Swann (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

BROADWAY -- Mrs. Selma McIver Swann of 8605 E.C. Womack Road died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Chestnut AME Zion Church by the Rev. Clyde Watson. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Horton Funeral Home of Sanford.

Mrs. Swann is survived by four daughters, Drucella Swann of Biscoe, and Janice Swann, Sharon Swann and Shirley Swann, all of Sanford; two sons, Franklin Swann of Sanford and Richard Swann of Jackson; five sisters, Classie Colyar and Kathleen McIver, both of Baltimore, Evelyn Nicholas and Velour Bryant, both of Sanford, and Rose Jones of Philadelphia; three brothers, David McIver and Elmer McIver, both of Baltimore, and Robert McIver of Sanford; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the church.

John Williams (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

John Williams, 79, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Episcopal Church by Father Joseph. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Paye Funeral Home.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Georgia Williams of East Elmhurst, N.Y.; a daughter, Jill Williams of East Elmhurst; two sons, John A. Williams III of Newark, N.J., and Vernon Williams of Silver Spring, Md.; a stepdaughter, Maryetta Ball of Philadelphia; a stepson, Russell Ball of Roosevelt Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Verna W. Crenshaw of Fayetteville; two brothers, Arthur Williams of Ahoskie and Frank Williams of Hyattsville, Md.; and 15 grandchildren.

The public will be received Sunday from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the church.

George E. Schneider (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

NEWTON GROVE -- George Edward Schneider, 75, of 2658 Reedy Prong Church Road died Thursday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

He was a retired instructor for Powell Manufacturing Company.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Guadeloupe Catholic Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Schneider is survived by three sons, Edward A. Schneider and Mickey Schneider, both of Newton Grove, and Benny R. Schneider of Cummings, Ga.; a brother, Bill Schneider of Daytona Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Kaye Smith of Riverside, Calif., Theresa Horne of Pensacola, Fla., and Della Marcotte of Silver Springs, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A prayer service will be held Sunday at 7 p.m., at Skinner Funeral Home. The family will receive friends after the prayer service.

Harvey L. Nance (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

ST. PAULS -- Harvey Lee Nance, 69, of Apt. 7, McCall Plaza, died Thursday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hamilton-Porter Funeral Home chapel in Hope Mills by the Rev. Norwood Tadlock. Burial will be in Big Rockfish Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Mr. Nance is survived by his wife, Ann Nance; five daughters, Debbie McDonald of Fayetteville, Carlene Nance and Janette Vancil, both of Parkton, and Patricia Humphrey and Carolyn Nye, both of South Carolina; two brothers, Ozzell Nance of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Grady Nance of Dunn; three sisters, Mary-Lois Tysinger of Lumberton, Jo McCurley of Spring Lake and Carlene White of Bladenboro; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Annie Scott (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

PEMBROKE -- Mrs. Annie Scott, 90, of 131 Private Road Annie, died Wednesday at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Union Chapel Community Baptist Church by the Revs. Charles W. Maynor, Jimmy Strickland and Jackson Locklear. Burial will be in the Locklear family cemetery.

Mrs. Scott is survived by eight sons, John A. Scott of St. Pauls, Robert W. Scott of Fredricksburg, Va., Michael Scott of Lumberton, and Bill Scott, Earl Scott, Delton R. Scott, Charlie Scott and Thomas Scott, all of Pembroke; seven daughters, Sarah J. Revels of Shannon, Wanda M. Scott of Lumberton, and Veronica Scott, Winnie Locklear, Nettie Scott, Nancy Bullard and Betty Bullard, all of Pembroke; 29 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

Mrs. Frances G. Higgins (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

HOPE MILLS -- Mrs. Frances Ruth Gantt Higgins, 83, of 734 Elk Mills Road died Friday in Hope Mills Retirement Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Highland Funeral Service and Crematory in Fayetteville.

Benjamin ‘Ben’ Vernelson (dated Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997)

DUNN -- Benjamin Samuel “Ben” Vernelson, 87, of Route 3, died Thursday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

He was a retired trucking contractor and a member of Freewill Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Skinner Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens.

Mr. Vernelson is survived by his wife, Doris D. Vernelson; four sons, Ben S. Vernelson Jr. and Walter M. Vernelson, both of Dunn, Kenneth W. Vernelson of New Bern and John F. Vernelson of Charleston, S.C.; three daughters, Delores Leisy of Key West, Fla., and Virginia Bartley and Sylvia Ryman, both of New Bern; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Skinner Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary M. Holder (dated Monday, Nov. 17, 1997)

ALBANY, Ga. -- Mrs. Mary M. Holder, 101, of Albany, formerly of Candor, N.C., died Thursday in Talmyra Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Candor Presbyterian Church in Candor by the Rev. Paul Snell. Burial will be in Candor Cemetery.

Mrs. Holder is survived by three sons, Phillip A. Holder of Lake City, Tenn., Joseph E. Holder of Diamond Bar, Calif., and Wilbur F. Holder of Hazelwood, Mo.; two daughters, Mary H. Mayberry of Memphis, Tenn., and Jean H. Condit of Albany; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Briggs Funeral Home in Candor.

Mrs. Louise C. McNeill (dated Monday, Nov. 17, 1997)

BROADWAY -- Mrs. Louise Coore McNeill, 78, of Route 2 died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Holly Springs Baptist Church by the Revs. Leary Knight and Jerry Parsons. Burial will be in Broadway town cemetery.

Mrs. McNeill is survived by a son, Dwight A. McNeill of Broadway; a daughter, Janis Martindale of Sanford; a brother, L.E. Coore of Broadway; a sister, Evelyn Patterson of Lillington; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home in Sanford.

Mrs. Rachel V. Hailey (dated Monday, Nov. 17, 1997)

ROCKINGHAM -- Mrs. Rachel Viola Hailey of Rockingham died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in McNeill Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Green Lake Cemetery.
