Mrs. Elizabeth B. Johnson (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

Mrs. Elizabeth Black Johnson, 94, of Fayetteville, died Thursday in Highland House Nursing Home.

She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Rogers & Breece Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Donald Overton. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Mary J. Koonce of Fayetteville; four sons, Walter C. Johnson of Kinston, Garnette T. Johnson of Parkton, David H. Johnson of Fayetteville and Dr. William H. Johnson of Raleigh; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 672, Hope Mills, N.C. 28348.

Francis B. Baird (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

Francis Bernard Baird, 54, of 218 Tiffany Court, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Alamance County Regional Hospital.

Mr. Baird was a teacher for more than 31 years. He taught at high schools in Hillsborough and Charlotte, and at N.C. A&T State University, the University of Amherst, the University of Connecticut, Winston-Salem State University and Fayetteville State University. Mr. Baird was a nationally known artist and art consultant who conducted workshops and programs for preschool, elementary and secondary school teachers. He earned both the Excellence in Teaching and the Teacher of the Year awards in 1994 and 1995 from Fayetteville State University.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Monday New Light Baptist Church in Greensboro. Burial will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Perry J. Brown Funeral Home of Greensboro.

Mr. Baird is survived by a son, Francis B. Baird Jr. of Greensboro; a stepson, Christopher Gist of Washington, D.C.; a stepdaughter, Daune Gist of Greensboro; his parents, James B. Baird of Fayetteville and Dorothy D. Baird of Temple Hills, Md.; a sister, Iva B. Richards of Philadelphia; and a brother, Ronald K. Baird of Greensboro.

Angelo A. Munn (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

LUMBERTON -- Angelo A. Munn, 35, of Route 1, died Thursday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Central Funeral Home.

A.G. Grace (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

CLEVELAND -- A.G. Grace, 88, of Cleveland, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Wednesday in East Cleveland.

Arrangements will be announced by H.M. Colvin Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

Charles A. Dent (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

LAURINBURG -- Charles Allen Dent, 58, of 22440 Crestwood Drive, died Wednesday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

He was an insurance agent for Federal Benefit Insurance Service in Jacksonville and a security guard for Woodard Manufacturing in Maxton. Mr. Dent retired from the Navy after 22 years of service.

The funeral will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. today in McDougald Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Robert Schmeidt. Burial will be in Crownhill Cemetery in Vienna, Ohio.

Mr. Dent is survived by a son, Kevin Dent of Maury; three daughters, Kimberly Voss of Rochester, N.Y., and Julie R. Dent and Heidi Dent, both of Georgia; his mother, Ruth D. Bird of Laurinburg; and two sisters, Patty Adkins of Petersburg, W.Va., and Joyce Flowers of Downingtown, Pa.

Memorials may be made to Laurinburg Church of Nazarene, 1121 Turnpike Road, Laurinburg, N.C. 28352.

Mrs. Flora A. Armstrong (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

Mrs. Flora A. Armstrong, 90, of 3917 James Dail Road, Fayetteville, formerly of Wade, died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Snow Hill Church in Wade by the Rev. Levert Mitchell. Burial will be in Holiness Chapel Church cemetery in Wade.

Mrs. Armstrong is survived by two sons, John H. Armstrong of Fayetteville and Robert L. Armstrong of Trenton, N.J.; three daughters, Aretta Evans and Willie M. Hair, both of Fayetteville, and Florene Godwin of the home; 69 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Tucker & Sons Funeral Home in Eastover.

Roy E. Jorjenson (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

MAXTON -- Roy Edward Jorjenson, 52, of Route 2, died Tuesday.

Arrangements will be announced by Locklear & Son Funeral Home of Pembroke.

John H. Dixon (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

MAXTON -- John Henry Dixon, 50, of 407 E. Holly Court, died Friday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Jackson Funeral Home of Laurinburg.

The family will receive friends at the home of Annie D. McQueen, 119 Steed Circle, Maxton.

Walter McLaurin Jr. (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

Walter McLaurin Jr., 80, of 737 Italy St., Fayetteville, died Monday in Washington, D.C.

He was a retired musician.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Northside Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Paye Funeral Home.

Mr. McLaurin is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the home and at other times at the home of Mary M. Jones, 166 Lamon St., Fayetteville.

Mrs. Ora Braxton (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

Mrs. Ora Braxton, 91, of 1504 Dontail Drive, Fayetteville, died Friday in Columbia Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Paye Funeral Home.

John W. Harrell (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

RAEFORD -- John Wesley Harrell, 76, of Raeford, died Thursday in Autumn Care Nursing Home in Raeford.

Mr. Harrell was a member and deacon of the Raeford First Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Woodman of the World. He was retired from Burlington Industries.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Raeford First Baptist Church by the Revs. Don Sattlewhite and Billy Beaver. Burial will be in Raeford Cemetery.

Mr. Harrell is survived by his wife, Nadine B. Harrell of Raeford; a son, John R. Harrell of Raeford; a daughter, Linda H. Hatley of Waxhaw; two sisters, Alma Helphrey of Windsor, Mo. and Agnes Wall of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Raeford First Baptist Church building fund, 333 N. Main St., Raeford, N.C. 28376.

Miss Edna G. Oliver (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

WHITEVILLE -- Miss Edna Grace Oliver, 76, of Whiteville died Thursday in Columbus County Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Paul Woodall. Burial will be in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by McKenzie Mortuary Service.

Miss Oliver is survived by a sister, Gene Oliver of Whiteville.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at 216 W. Oliver St.

Mrs. Inez Cole (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

FOUR OAKS -- Mrs. Inez Cole, 79, of 1534 Bentonville Road died Thursday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Western Assembly Headquarters Building by the Rev. Dannie Robinson. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Brock Memorial and Worley Funeral Home of Clinton.

Mrs. Cole is survived by a son, Sgt. 1st Class Johnnie W. Cole of Schafield Barracks, Hawaii; three sisters, Mable McDaniel and Lina Altman, both of Smithfield, and Ettie Altman of Four Oaks; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at Western Assembly Headquarters Building.

Joseph H. Stallings (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

GARLAND -- Joseph Harold Stallings, 65, of 6250 W. Magnolia Lisbon Road, died Thursday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Garland Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Fred Pleasant. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery.

Mr. Stallings is survived by a daughter, Sheree McConnell of Clinton; his mother, Macy Stallings of Clinton; a brother, Gerald Stallings of New Bern; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Macy Stallings, 518 F Laurelwood Apartments, Clinton.

Hubert E. Batten (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

Dr. Hubert Elmore Batten, 72, of 2121 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Columbia Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Batten practiced radiology in Fayetteville for 34 years and was a Navy veteran of World War II.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Rogers & Breece Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Sam Batten and William Sleasman. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, Va.

Mr. Batten is survived by his wife, Helen E. Batten of the home; a son, Dr. Jerry L. Batten of Balsam; a daughter, Dr. Jan B. McGirt of Wilmington; a brother, Armin R. Batten of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and two granddaughters.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Cumberland County, P.O. Box 53324, Fayetteville, N.C. 28305; or to the Dr. Hubert E. Batten Scholarship Fund, care of Fayetteville Technical Community College, P.O. Box 35236, Fayetteville, N.C. 28303.

James D. Hunt (dated Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997)

LUMBERTON -- James David Hunt, 46, of 316 Eddie Sampson Road died Thursday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mt. Airy Baptist Church by the Revs. Charles W. Maynor, Bill J. Locklear and Kenneth Locklear. Burial will be in Cherokee Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Hunt is survived by his wife, Kimberly C. Hunt; two daughters, Jacqueline H. Chagolla of Shannon and Alisha Hunt of Fayetteville; his mother, Janie Hunt of Lumberton; six brothers, Larry Hunt, Harmon Hunt, and Ledger Hunt, all of Red Springs, the Rev. Harold Hunt and Herman Hunt, both of Pembroke, and Jeffery Hunt of Lumberton; a foster brother, Leonard Green of Lumberton; two sisters, Sheila H. Brayboy of Lumberton and Miranda H. Hammonds of Pembroke; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home in Pembroke.
