MAXTON -- Mrs. Gertrude Elizabeth Mills Dunn, 77, of 869 McCaskill Ave., died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
She was a homemaker.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Norvin Forester. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by McDougald Funeral Home of Laurinburg.
Mrs. Dunn is survived by her husband, David E. Dunn; three daughters, Judy Riggins of Laurinburg, Patsy Gill of Clinton and Carol Blankenship of Arlington, Va.; two brothers, Graham Mills of Hamlet and Norris Mills of Salisbury; three sisters, Atha Baker of Biloxi, Miss., Hazel Woodward of Laurinburg and Doris Surface of Elizabeth City; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

LUMBERTON -- Willis Evans, 71, of 2507 Chambers St., died Saturday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Peter O. Williams (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
PINEHURST -- Peter O. Williams, 63, of Pinehurst, died Thursday in his home.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean war, was employed by A.M. Industries in Aberdeen and was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and the church choir.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 29 in Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Southern Pines. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home & Crematory of Southern Pines.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Linda S. Williams; two sons, Robert L. Williams of Raleigh and Christopher W. Williams of Portland, Ore.; his father, J. Lowell Williams; a brother, Retired Navy Capt. Douglas A. Williams of Spring Grove, Va.; five stepbrothers, Burke Eastman, Roger Eastman, Ron Eastman, Eric Eastman and Bruce Eastman; and two grandchildren.

Ms. Marsha McDaniel, 59, of 3417 Little Stone Court, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Mrs. Margaret M. Edens (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
HAMLET -- Mrs. Margaret McNair Edens, 87, of Hamlet, died Wednesday in Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Peters United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Piney Grove United Methodist Church cemetery in Maxton. Arrangements are being handled by McEachern Funeral Home.
Mrs. Edens is survived by a son, Lee Grant of Columbia, S.C.; four daughters, Margaret E. Hairston of Martinville, Va., Lillie E. Pratt of Sinking Springs, Pa., Dorothy E. Coley of Greensboro and Helen E. Stevenson of Columbia; an adopted daughter, Derline Jeffries of Burlington; a brother, Evander McNair; three sisters, Cora L. Burgess, Dorothy Lane and Katie Webb; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the church.
Mrs. Irene Faircloth (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- Mrs. Irene Faircloth, 69, of Newburgh, formerly of Salemburg, N.C., died Wednesday in St. Lukes Hospital in Newburg.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in New Light AME Zion Church in Salemburg by the Rev. Roy L. Selby. Burial will be in Ben Howard Cemetery.
Mrs. Faircloth is survived by a daughter, Veronica Faircloth of Newburgh; a stepdaughter, Margaret Lamb of Newburgh; three sons, William H. Lamb of Fayetteville, N.C., and Douglas Lamb and Rodney Lamb, both of Newburgh; a stepson, Frank E. Pierce of Newburgh; four sisters, Romelia Cornelious of Del Ray Beach, Fla., Mary R. Herring and Minora Cooper-Williams, both of Salemburg, and Mittie Faircloth of Poughkepsie, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The public will be received today from 1 to 6 p.m. at Summerville-Boykin Mortuary in Garland, N.C. The family will receive friends at the home of Mary R. Herring, 1880 Lakewood School Road, Salemburg.
Charles E. Colwell (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
PINEHURST -- Charles Edward Colwell, 76, of Pinehurst died Friday in his home.
Mr. Colwell was a Navy veteran of World War II and was retired from Union Carbide. He was a former board member of United Way and a founding member and chairman of the Literacy Council of Moore County. Mr. Colwell attended Beulah Presbyterian Church and the Community Congregational Church of Southern Pines.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Community Congregational Church by the Revs. Kurt Traugott and Michael Garber. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home of Southern Pines.
Mr. Colwell is survived by his wife, Katherine K. Colwell; two sons, John C. Colwell of Asheland, Ore., and James S. Colwell of Weymouth, Mass.; a daughter, Cynthia C. Rocco of Greensboro; a brother, Jack H. Colwell of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Marian C. Frank of Youngstown, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

CAMERON -- Phillip Lynn “Hicks” Newell, 17, of Route 2, died Friday in Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Brush Creek Baptist Church cemetery near Siler City.
Phillip is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sherry and Andy L. Hicks; three sisters, Crystal L. Newell, Ashley McLean and Cecilia N. McLean, all of the home; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Bobbie J. and Stanley Barham of Sanford; his paternal grandfather, Clyde Hicks of Olivia; and his paternal grandmother, Bonnie Cashwell of Clinton.

WHISPERING PINES -- Don Hugo Wentz, 69, of Whispering Pines died Friday in his home.

Mr. Wentz is survived by his wife, Judith B. Wentz; two daughters, Ann W. Bradshaw of Durham and Catherine Wentz of Arlington, Va.; a sister, Colette Gerhart of Washington, Mo.; and two grandchildren.

LAURINBURG -- Ms. Geraldine Locklear, 37, of 112 Tucker St., died Friday.
She was a homemaker.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in White Creek Church cemetery by the Rev. Addie M. Thompson.
Ms. Locklear is survived by three daughters, Taylor Locklear and Tina Locklear, both of Laurel Hill, and Crystal G. Locklear of Maxton; her mother, Thelma Locklear of Laurinburg; three brothers, Ronald Locklear of Laurinburg and Glenn Locklear and J.D. Locklear, both of Hamlet; and two sisters, Ida J. Locklear and Annie L. Locklear, both of Laurinburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Butler Funeral Service.
Mrs. Reva L. Freel (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
GARLAND -- Mrs. Reva Fern Little Freel, 91, of 1800 Lamb Road died Saturday in Len-Care Nursing Home in Elizabethtown.
She was a member of Garland Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Carroll family cemetery in Garland by the Rev. Fred Pleasant. Arrangements are being handled by Royal-Hall Funeral Home in Clinton.
Mrs. Freel is survived by a daughter, Sharon Carroll of Garland; a son, Kenneth Freel of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, Kenneth Little of Bay Cliff, Texas; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the home of Sharon Carroll, 1800 Lamb Road, Garland.
Mrs. Jacqueline L. Sage (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
ST. PAULS -- Mrs. Jacqueline Mae Long Sage, 61, of 830 E. Broad St., died Saturday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
She was a personal caretaker.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Oak Ridge Cemetery by the Rev. Floyd Helms.
Mrs. Sage is survived by two daughters, Mary Liebl of San Antonio and Marsha Still of St. Pauls; a brother, Ray Parnell of Wake Forest; and seven grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McNeill Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Mrs. Katie K. Chadwick (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
WALLACE -- Mrs. Katie Kelley Chadwick, 89, of Wallace, formerly of Fayetteville, died Saturday in The Bryan Center.
She was a member of Wallace United Methodist Church and was a former member of Galatia Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Harrell’s Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Frank Lloyd. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.
Mrs. Chadwick is survived by a son, Kelly Chadwick of Wilkesboro; a daughter, Shirley C. Williams of Indianapolis; a sister, Annie Hanchey of Wallace; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frederick Simon (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
LUMBERTON -- Frederick Simon, 72, of 602 Norment Road died Saturday in his home.

Mr. Simon is survived by his wife, Betty J. Simon of the home; a son, Jack Simon of Lumberton; a daughter, Carol Kendall of Lumberton; his mother, Hattie Simon of Vincentown, N.J.; a brother, Theodore Simon of Vincentown; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
