Robert C. Austin (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
CLARKTON -- Robert Clarence Austin, 77, of Clarkton, formerly of Elizabethtown, died Saturday in his home.
He retired from Bladen County board of education after 37 years and was a deacon at Elizabethtown Baptist Church. Mr. Austin was a Navy veteran of World War II.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Elizabethtown Baptist Church by the Rev. David Elks. Burial will be in Bladen Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Austin of the home; a daughter, Mary A. Brown of Elizabethtown; a son, John Austin of Charlotte; a sister, Mary Hall of Culpeper, Va.; four brothers, Herbert Austin and Frank Austin, both of Chesapeake, Va., James Austin of Fredericksburg, Va., and William Austin of Virginia Beach, Va.; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kinlaw Funeral Home in Elizabethtown.
Memorials may be made to Elizabethtown Baptist Church or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Bladen County Office.
Calvin C. Hammonds (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
ROWLAND -- Calvin C. Hammonds, 72, of Route 3, Box 144, died Saturday.

Mrs. Marie S. Hampton (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
CHADBOURN -- Mrs. Marie S. Hampton, 77, of Chadbourn, died Friday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Jessie Timmons. Burial will be in Belvue Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by D & A Funeral Service.
Mrs. Hampton is survived by a daughter, Elneta F. Hampton; and two sisters, Annie M. Williamson and Estelle Richard, both of Chadbourn.
John ‘Sonny’ Jacobs (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
MAXTON -- John Astor “Sonny” Jacobs, 84, of Redbanks Road died Friday.

Roy E. Jorgenson (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
MAXTON -- Roy Edward Jorgenson, 52, of Route 2 died Friday.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Preston Gospel Chapel by the Revs. Simmie Barton and Billy Clark. Burial will be in Preston Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Jorgenson is survived by his wife, Evion B. Jorgenson of the home; a son, Roy E. Jorgenson Jr. of Maxton; a sister, Kathy J. Price of Phenix City, Ala.; two grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lisa F. Womack (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
Mrs. Lisa Floyd Womack, 35, of 5801 Pettigrew Drive, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Carolyn Woriax. Arrangements are being handled by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.
Mrs. Womack is survived by her husband, Army Maj. Scott E. Womack; a son, Josiah S. Womack of the home; her father, Bourke Floyd of Atlanta; and a sister, Celia Nutt of Atlanta.

Mrs. Mel Reed Williams, 60, of 5604 Mesa Court, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in St. Luke AME Church by the Rev. Sheridan Knight. Burial will be in Main Post Cemetery on Fort Bragg.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband, Theodore C. Williams; three sons, Lorenzo “Stue” Williams of Fayetteville, and Tyrone Williams and Eroll “Lenny” Williams, both of San Jose, Calif.; four daughters, Jacquelyn Williams of Charlotte, Sharon “Bonnie” Williams of Atlanta, Sandra Williams of Chester, Va., and Sheila Williams of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Margaret Culbert of Fort Pierce, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Nolie M. Tyndall (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
FAIRMONT -- Mrs. Nolie Rogers McPhatter Tyndall, 91, of Route 2, died Saturday in North Carolina Cancer Institute in Lumberton.
She was a homemaker and a member of Barnesville Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Floyd Funeral Services chapel by the Rev. Howard Fowler. Burial will be in Community Cemetery in Barnesville.
Mrs. Tyndall is survived by four sons, Boyce McPhatter and Wilbur McPhatter, both of Wilmington, Horace McPhatter of Fairmont and Graddy McPhatter of Lumberton; three daughters, Olene M. McCormick of Lumberton, Lucille M. Ivey of Newport News, Va., and Alice M. Foley of Orrum; 21 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Margaret G. Huggins (dated Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997)
FAIRMONT -- Mrs. Margaret Griffin Huggins, 67, of 1401 Alexander St., died Saturday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Floyd Memorial Cemetery by the Rev. Mark Gaskins. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Funeral Services.
Mrs. Huggins is survived by two sons, Will McNeill of Houston and Phil Huggins of Lumberton; four daughters, Brenda Bullock and Gloria Ivey, both of Fairmont, Vicki Carroll of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jennifer Huggins of the home; her mother, Sadie R. Griffin of Fairmont; three sisters, Ruth Lamb of Mary Esther, Fla., Betty Taylor of Fairmont and Barbara J. Spivey of Lakeview, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
The family will receive friends at the home.

GARLAND -- James Kirby Smith, 70, of Britthaven of Wrightsville Beach nursing home died Monday.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Garland Cemetery by the Revs. Helen Seamster and James Seamster.
Mr. Smith is survived by four sisters, Ella Keyes of Utica, N.Y., Louise Riggs and Dorothy Brown, both of Rocky Point, and Sue Garvey of Harrells; and two brothers, Ed L. Smith and Herman Smith, both of Wilmington.
The public will be received today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the home of Dorothy Brown, 575 North Drive, Rocky Point.
Charles E. Hardy (dated Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997)
GIBSON -- Charles Edward “Everette” Hardy, 52, of 8003 Gibson Road died Sunday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
He was an auto mechanic for Cox Performance.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Butler Funeral Service chapel by the Rev. Titus Outlaw. Burial will be in Pinecrest Cemetery.
Mr. Hardy is survived by his wife, Deborah Hardy; a son, David Hardy of Laurinburg; a daughter, Olivia Wiggins of McColl, S.C.; two brothers, William Hardy of Greenville and Freddie Hardy of Laurinburg; two sisters, Annie Griffin of Washington and Ruby Scott; and four grandchildren.
Ward ‘Teeny’ Phillips (dated Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997)
ERWIN -- Ward “Teeny” Phillips, 79, of 507 Old Post Road died Sunday in Good Hope Hospital.
He worked for Southern Railroad for 28 years before he retired.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Price Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Currie Parker. Burial will be in Erwin Memorial Park.
Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, Bettie T. Phillips of the home, and a sister, Dora P. Smith of Dunn.
