Jasper ‘Jack’ Pope (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

LAKE CITY, Minn. -- Jasper C. “Jack” Pope, 83, of Lake City, formerly of Clinton, N.C., died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. David Kolb. Burial will be in the Matthis family cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home of Clinton.

Mr. Pope is survived by his wife, Jesamine H. Pope; a daughter, Jeri P. Akers of Maryland; a son, Robert J. Pope of Minnesota; three sisters, Marie Brock of Fayetteville, N.C., Mildred Honeycutt of Clinton and Betsy Watson of Ingold, N.C.; three brothers, Marion Pope of California, Henry Pope of Greensboro, N.C., and Robert Pope of Clinton; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the church.

Lee R. McNeill (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

SANFORD -- Lee Roy McNeill of 1000 Charlotte Ave. died Tuesday in Central Carolina Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Watson Mortuary.

Randy Dial (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. -- Randy Dial, 41, of Spotsylvania, formerly of Pembroke, N.C., died Sunday in Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Calvary Way Independent Baptist Church by the Revs. Steve Jones and John L. Locklear Jr. Burial will be in Harpers Ferry Church cemetery.

Mr. Dial is survived by a son, Maurice A. Dial of Pembroke; two daughters, Aundrea Dial and Sophia Dial, both of Pembroke; his stepmother, Barbara Locklear of Pembroke; four brothers, Michael Dial and Lacy Dial, both of Pembroke, and Terry Dial and Jeffery Dial, both of Detroit; and two sisters, Deanna Dial of Pembroke and Dinah Locklear of Washington, D.C.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home in Pembroke.

Sidney W. Thompson (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

CANDOR -- Sidney Winston Thompson, 62, of 228 Leach Road died Tuesday in his home.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Macedonia Presbyterian Church and the Biscoe Masonic Lodge No. 437 AF&AM. He was a retired crew leader for North Carolina Department of Transportation.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Macedonia Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Graham Fowler and Jack Phillips. Burial with full Masonic rites will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Sara L. Thompson of the home; a son, Mickey Thompson of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Ann T. Parsons of Troy; two brothers, William “Buck” Thompson and John Thompson, both of Candor; two sisters, Ella Hogan of Morristown, Tenn., and Lula Blake of Candor; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Briggs Candor Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Montgomery County, 404 N. Main St., Troy, N.C. 27371, or to Macedonia Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 340, Candor, N.C. 27229.

Mrs. Florence B. Page (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Florence Brewer Page, 81, of Woodhaven Nursing Center, formerly of Fairmont, died Tuesday.

She was a homemaker and farmer.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Funeral Services of Fairmont.

Mrs. Page is survived by three sons, Jimmy Page of Fairmont, Marvin Page of High Point and Milton Page of Orrum; three daughters, Gladys P. Johnson of Fairmont, and Shirley P. Worthington and Helen P. Porter, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Gladys Johnson, 756 Oakdale Church Road, Fairmont.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodhaven Nursing Center, 1150 Pine Run Road, Lumberton, N.C. 28358.

Jesse Connor (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

ORRUM -- The Rev. Jesse Connor, 80, of 2387 Princess Ann Road died Tuesday in his home.

Mr. Connor was deacon of Barnesville Baptist Church for 32 years. He pastored Freewill Baptist Church of Orrum and was currently pastor of Princess Ann Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Floyd Funeral Services chapel by the Revs. Howard Lucas and David Wyatt. Burial will be in the Lawson family cemetery.

Mr. Connor is survived by two sons, the Rev. George Connor and James E. Connor, both of Lumberton; three daughters, Irene Haywood of the home, and Virginia Hardin and Nancy Connor, both of Orrum; a brother, Eddie Connor of Orrum; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Hazel M. Garrett (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

SANFORD -- Mrs. Hazel Mae McLean Garrett, 57, of 2514 Bruce Coggins Road died Monday in Central Carolina Hospital.

She was employed by the Sanford Herald.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Mrs. Garrett is survived by her husband, Thomas Garrett; her father, Clyde McLean of Sanford; two brothers, Ralph W. McLean of Vass and Donald McLean of Lakeview; and a sister, Mary Bailey of Carthage.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arron ‘Sonny Boy’ Grace (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

CLEVELAND -- Arron G. “Sonny Boy” Grace, 88, of Cleveland, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Wednesday in University Hospital in East Cleveland.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in China Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. M.E. Stubbs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Grace is survived by two daughters, Hildria M. Grace of Cleveland and Florence Melvin of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 3 to 6 p.m. at H.M. Colvin Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Laverne Lawrence (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

STEDMAN -- Laverne Lawrence, 88, of 6617 Morning Glory Drive died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Arrangements will be announced by Tucker & Sons Funeral Home.

Lourice B. Burns (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

PHILADELPHIA -- Lourice Bruce Burns, 66, of Philadelphia, formerly of St. Pauls, N.C., died Friday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in New Birth Baptist Church. Burial will be in Philadelphia. Local arrangements are being handled by McKoy & Sons Mortuary of St. Pauls.

Mr. Burns is survived by his wife, Lizzie I. Burns of the home; a daughter, Vivian C. Burns of Philadelphia; nine sons, Robert C. Burns, James H. Burns, Steven Burns, Leeander Burns, Bruce Burns Jr., Jeffery Burns, Gerry Burns, David Burns and Kelsey Burns, all of Philadelphia; three sisters, Ruth Sutton of Hope Mills, N.C., Leo Given of Denver, N.C., and Carolyn Currie of Philadelphia; a brother, William Burns of St. Pauls; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

James H. Hicks (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

WHISPERING PINES -- James Henry Hicks of 1200 Rays Bridge Road died Tuesday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mr. Hicks was an aeronautical engineer for Curtis Wright in Buffalo, N.Y., and Columbus, Ohio. He retired after 31 years with Lear-Lear Sigliar of Grand Rapids, Mich.

No services are planned. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home of Southern Pines.

Mr. Hicks is survived by his wife, Peggy A. Hicks; a daughter, Ann Marie H. Rogers of Gainesville, Fla.; a son, James A. Hicks of Lowell, Mich.; and two sisters, Helen Kendrick of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Louise Cash of Hemet, Calif.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 104, West End, N.C. 27376, or to a favorite charity.

Benjamin P. Creech (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

PINK HILL -- Benjamin Patrick Creech, 82, of Pink Hill died Monday in Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Community Funeral Home chapel in Beulaville. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memorial Park.

Mr. Creech is survived by his wife, Mabel G. Creech of Pink Hill; a daughter, Mary C. Ramsey of Hope Mills; four sons, Elmer Creech of Towson, Md., Jack Creech of Beulaville, Harold Creech of Greensboro and Randy Creech of Florham Park, N.J.; a sister, Zelda Tedder of Richmond, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Robert ‘R.G.’ Fry Jr. (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

CARTHAGE -- Robert Gilliam “R.G.” Fry Jr., 81, of Carthage died Tuesday in Pinelake Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Fry was a retired funeral director for R.G. Fry & Son Funeral Home and a manager for the former Carthage Furniture Co. He was appointed as a Moore County Magistrate and served as Chief Magistrate of Moore County’s first Civil Court until his retirement. Mr. Fry was a former Carthage Board Commissioner, past president of the Rotary Club of Carthage, a deacon of First Baptist Church and a Carthage vounteer fireman for 30 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Al Martin. Burial will be in Cross Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Fry is survived by his wife, Rose U. Fry; three sons, R.G. “Bob” Fry III of Newport News, Va., Alvin U. “Buck” Fry of Pinehurst and Mark S. Fry of Carthage; two sisters, Masal Barbour of Bristol, Va., and Louise F. Carter of Carthage; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Fry-Prickett Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ada Faison (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

CLINTON -- Mrs. Ada Faison, 99, of 1317 F Jasper St. died Tuesday in Mary Gran Nursing Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Gerald K. Bullard (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

HENDERSON -- Gerald Kenneth Bullard, 69, of Henderson, formerly of Fayetteville, died Nov. 15 in his home.

A graveside service with full military honors will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville by Father Kita. Arrangements are being handled by Granes Funeral Home.

Mr. Bullard is survived by two daughters Deborah B. Strader of Irmo, S.C., and Michelle B. Tola of Syracuse, N.Y.; three sons, Christopher Bullard of Colorado Springs, Colo., Stephen Bullard of Fayetteville and Kenneth Bullard of the home; two sisters, Mildred Nester and Lillian Ryan; and eight grandchildren.

Ms. Sallie M. McDonald (dated Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997)

LILLINGTON -- Ms. Sallie M. McDonald, 41, of Lillington died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Lillington Grove Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Linwood Randolph. Burial will be in Lillington Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Payton’s Funeral Home of Dunn.

Ms. McDonald is survived by two daughters, Erica Cannady and Ebony McDonald; her mother, Mary Cannady; three sisters, Brenda McDonald, Jo Ann Smith and Stella Cannady; a brother, Ock Cannady Jr.; and three grandchildren.
