ROSEBORO -- Malcolm V. Bass, 66, of 794 Myrtle Road died Wednesday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Mr. Bass was a Marine veteran and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He retired from Star Telephone Membership Corporation.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Grandview Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Allen Overton.
Mr. Bass is survived by his wife, Edna Bass; a son, Christopher Bass of the home; a daughter, Sandra Armendariz of Fort Bragg; a sister, Faye Melson of Clinton; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
James L. Costin Jr. (dated Friday, Nov. 28, 1997)
IVANHOE -- James Levi Costin Jr. of Ivanhoe died Thursday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mr. Costin was a member and former chief of the Shiloh Fire Department and was retired from the Department of Transportation. He was a farmer and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Clinton Cemetery.
Mr. Costin is survived by two sisters, Thelma C. Beia of Clinton and Lucille C. Lamb of Grifton.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home.

Tommy L. Whittenton (dated Friday, Nov. 28, 1997)
DUNN -- Tommy Lee Whittenton, 50, of 1288 Savannah Hill Road died Thursday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Glad Tidings Church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Whittenton is survived by his wife, Debbie R. Whittenton; a son, Anthony R. Whittenton of Fresno, Calif.; his mother, Esther T. Whittenton; a brother, Johnny Whittenton of Plant City, Fla.; and one granddaughter.

RAEFORD -- Mrs. Cora Lee Campbell, 80, of 401 St. Pauls Drive died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in McLauchlin Chapel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Johnny C. Davis. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.
Mrs. Campbell is survived by a son, Jamal L. Campbell of the home; three sisters, Lena M. Shaw of the home, Alberta McLean of Raeford and Martha McCall of New York; and a brother, Ernest McMillan of New Bern.

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Irma Lorick, 39, of 1265 Seneca Drive died Tuesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Mary G. Clark (dated Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997)
CHAPEL HILL -- Mrs. Mary Louise Gill Clark, 79, of Carolina Meadows Nursing Home died Thursday.
She was a retired professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Hillside Cemetery in Laurinburg by the Rev. Wil I. Jackson. Arrangements are being handled by McDougald Funeral Home in Laurinburg.
Mrs. Clark is survived by a brother, Thomas J. “Tommy” Gill of Mentor, Ohio.
Mrs. Blanche O. Bullard (dated Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997)
McCOLL, S.C. -- Mrs. Blanche Oxendine Bullard, 84, of McColl, died Thursday in Marlboro Park Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Berea United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Priest Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers Funeral Home.
Among Mrs. Bullard’s survivors are two sisters, Bertha Locklear and Georgia E. Locklear, both of Laurinburg, N.C.

WHITEVILLE † Mrs. Marie E. Simmons, 91, of 698 Prison Camp Road, died Wednesday in Columbus County Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Cherry Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Henry Jones Jr. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Simmons is survived by a daughter, Marie Burroughs of Whiteville; and a son, Lynn Simmons of Whiteville.

BRONX, N.Y. -- Ms. Joyce Ann Williams, 54, of Bronx, formerly of the Mt. Moriah Community, Chadbourn, N.C., died Tuesday in Bronx.

Williams of Bronx and Betty McDuffie of Chadbourn; six brothers, Bobby Williams of Cherry Hill, N.J., the Rev. Hedrick Williams of Durham, N.C., Billy R. Williams and Johnnie Williams, both of Bronx, Jimmy Williams of Tulsa, Okla., and Clarence Williams of New York City.
John D. Ballou (dated Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997)
MOREHEAD CITY -- John D. Ballou, 63, of Morehead City died Thursday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Glad Tidings Church by the Rev. Terry Barts. Burial will be in Bayview Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Munden Funeral Home and Crematory.
Among Mr. Ballou’s survivors is a brother, George Ballou of Fayetteville.
Mrs. Martha L. Sanders (dated Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997)
Mrs. Martha Latta Sanders, 55, of 1807 LaSalle Ave., Fayetteville, died Thursday in Highland House Nursing Home.
She was a member of Culbreth Memorial United Methodist Church and was a retired teacher’s assistant for Seabrook Elementary School.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Bobby Tyson and Eric Carson. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Mrs. Sanders is survived by a son, Ronald W. Sanders Jr.; a daughter, Shannon Clifton of Fayetteville; her mother, Flora Brinson of Fayetteville; a brother, H.J. “Buddy” Latta of Reidsville; and two grandsons.

RAEFORD -- Mrs. Anna Marie Tkach Marion, 80, of Raeford, died Wednesday in Open Arms Rest Home.
She was a member of Raeford United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday in Raeford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Carson Tyson. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Augusta, Ga.
Mrs. Marion is survived by two sons, Richard Marion of Red Springs and Francis Marion of Martinez, Ga.; three daughters, Geri Walker of Raeford; Georgene Indorf of New Haven, Ct., and Michelle Marion of Australia; three brothers, Frank Tkach of Struthers, Ohio, John Tkach of Poland, Ohio, and Mike Tkach of Youngstown, Ohio; three sisters, Frances Torok of Lowellville, Ohio, Sophie Soldo of New Middletown, Ohio, and Irene Mattie of Lowellville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
