Ruby Cooper
A funeral service for Mrs. Ruby Catherine Morton Cooper, 85, of Albemarle was held December 3, 2000, at North Albemarle Baptist Church with Dr. Grady Taylor officiating. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Park. Mrs. Cooper passed on December 1 at Presbyterian Hospital. She was born June 10, 1915, the daughter of Bertha Burris Morton and G.C. "Good" Morton. She was a retired assistant manager at radio station WABZ and was married
to the late Draper Walter Cooper. She was educated in Millingport and Albemarle City Schools and Wingate College. She was very active as long as her health permitted. She was in the Business and Professional Women's Club, worked at the election polls and enjoyed politics. She was a member of North Albemarle Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Morton Cooper of Indian Trail; a daughter, Sue Cooper of Charlotte; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, 1300 Baxter Street, Suite 101, Charlotte, N.C. 28204.
Jerry Moser
A funeral service for Jerry Lester Moser, 69, of Midland, was held December 1, 2000, at Calvary Praise and worship Center with pastor Garold Roseman officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Mr. Moser passed on November 28 at his home.
He was born May 2, 1931, in Mecklenburg County. His parents were Julian Lester Moser and Lois Scarborough Moser. He was the manager of a printing company and a member of Calvary Praise and Worship Center.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Ritchie Moser of the home; five daughters, Donna Blount of Charlotte; Darlene Brooks and Marilyn Honeycutt, both of Midland; Sherry Moser of Fort Mill, S.C., and Joy Moser of Concord; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were the International Fellowship of Businessmen.

Robert Litaker
Robert Wayne Litaker, 53, of Albemarle, passed on December 2, 2000 at his home. A funeral service was held December 4 at Grace Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Gary Pinion and the Rev. Eddie Barbee officiating.
Mr. Litaker was born January 1, 1947, in Albemarle. He was a fork lift operator at Charlotte Pipe in Monroe. He graduated from Albemarle Senior High in 1965.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Faye Munn Litaker of the home; his parents Robert William and Ruby Whitley Litaker of Albemarle; two sons, Michael Wayne and Matt Evans Litaker, both of the home; a brother, Larry E. Litaker of Albemarle and a sister, Janice L. Blalock of Albemarle.

Carla Ferrell
Carla Jean Johnson Ferrell, 37, of Locust, passed on December 1, 2000, at Carolina Medical Center. A funeral service was held December 5 at Providence Church of God with Rev. Jerry Ingle officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ferrell was born January 1, 1963, in Soest, The Netherlands. Her parents are Rebecca Sue Johnson Johnson Fountain and Forrest Glenn Johnson. She was a private investigator with Informed and Investigations, Inc. in Locust. She was a member of Providence Church of God.
Survivors include her husband Ron Ferrell of the home; three sons, Zachary Overman, Landon Ferrell and Matthew Ferrell, all of the home; a daughter, Amy Frick of New London; her mother, Rebecca Sue Fountain of Charlotte; her father, Glen Johnson and wife Ann Johnson of Largo, Fla.; two sisters, Tenia O'Dell Belva, of West Virginia and Belinda carter of Charlotte; a grandchild, Bailey Nicole Frick of New London and several nieces and nephews. Her step-father, John fountain, preceded her in death.

Ira Burleson
Ira Lee Burleson, 72, of Oakboro, passed on November 29, 2000, at Stanly Memorial Hospital. A funeral service was held December 1 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Phillip Hunter and Rev. Yates Brooks officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Oakboro.
Mr. Burleson was born September 1, 1928, in Oakboro. His parents were Ethel Lambert Burleson and Ira Benjamin Burleson. He was a retired construction worker for McDevitt & Street. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Shoe Burleson of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Richard Jones of Albemarle; two brothers, James D. Burleson of Stanfield and Claude N. Burleson of Albemarle; four sisters, Mary Burleson Herrin of Oakboro, Ruth Burleson Judd of Destin, Fla., Margaret Burleson Aldridge of Albemarle and Shirley Burleson Giles of Atlanta, Ga.; a grandson Matthew Jones and a granddaughter, Suzanne Jones.

Samp Whitley
Samp Ephram Whitley, 85, of Oakboro, passed on at Britthaven of Piedmont November 25, 2000. A funeral service was held November 28 at Barbee's Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Rev. Aaron Brooks and Rev. Yates Brooks presiding. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Whitley was born May 6, 1915 in Stanly County, the son of Pinkie Smith Whitley and C.O. Whitley. He was married
to the late Lela Rebecca Barbee Whitley.
Survivors include a son, Don E. Whitley and wife Barbara of Oakboro; two daughters, Judy W. Boles and Dot W. Alsobrooks and husband Chip, all of Oakboro; a brother, Odell Whitley of Oakboro; two sisters, Erma Lowder of Stanfield and Braudis "Bob: Whitley of Oakboro; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Sam Huneycutt
A funeral service was held November 28, 2000 for Sam Thomas Huneycutt, 82 of Stanfield, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Rev. Joe E. Smith and Rev. Louis Pfeiffer officiated. Burial was in Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Stanfield. Mr. Huneycutt passed on November 26 at Northeast Medical Center.
He was born February 15, 1918 in Stanly County. His parents were Hattie Morgan Huneycutt and Silas Arthur Huneycutt. He was married
to the late Addie Almond Tucker Huneycutt. He was a retired outside maintenance employee of the city of Albemarle. He attended Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are two step-daughters, Lovene Scott and Gayle Thompson, both of Kernersville, N.C.; a brother, Flave Huneycutt of Oakboro; and two sisters, Helen Shinn of Oakboro and Mable Smith of Albemarle; also, four step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Naomi Douthit
Naomi Rivers Douthit, 92, of Albemarle, passed on November 24, 2000 at the Lutheran Home in Albemarle. A funeral service was held November 27 at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, with Dr. Grady Taylor officiating. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Douthit was born July 5, 1908 in Chesterfield County in South Carolina. Her parents were Mary Hersey Gaskin Rivers and Miles Vernon Rivers. She was married
to the late Robert Douthit, and was a knitter. She was a member of North Albemarle Baptist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Ella Burns Barbee of Albemarle; a grandson, Jeff Willis of Albemarle and a great-granddaughter, Ashley Willis, of Albemarle.
A son, David Kenneth Willis preceded her in death.
Ramelle Hatley
A funeral service for Miss Ramelle Frances Hatley, 80, of Locust was held November 27, 2000 at Locust Presbyterian Church where she was a member. Rev. Rick McIntee officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Miss Hatley passed on November 24 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte.
She was born October 31, 1920 in Stanly County, the daughter of John Moore and Julia Ann Barbee Hatley. She was a seamstress in a hosiery mill.
Survivors include a brother, John Henry Hatley of Locust; Pauline Hartsell and Fannie Hathcock, both of Locust; Jamie Griffin of Stanfield; and two sisters, Gatha "Dink" Hatley and Helen Linker, preceded her in death.

Callie Pressley
Callie Louvine Morgan Pressley, 74, of Charlotte, passed on November 21, 2000 at her home. A funeral service was held November 25 at Hartsell Funeral Chapel in Midland. Rev. Kirk Sams officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens of Charlotte.
Mrs. Pressley was born March 9, 1926 in Stanly County. Her parents were Clyde Patterson and Lessie Griffin Morgan. She was a homemaker and married
to the late Jesse Culpepper Pressley. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Joel Byron Pressley of Oakboro and Darrell Pressley of Midland; four grandchildren, Steven Pressley of Huntersville, Jason Pressley of Concord and Devron Pressley and Brandon Pressley of Midland; and two great-granddaughters, Jessica Pressley and Kaylee Pressley, both of Huntersville.

W. Ben Smith
A funeral service for W. Ben Smith, 88, of Oakboro, was held November 24, 2000 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Hunter and Rev. Dolan Talbert officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Smith passed on at Britthaven of Piedmont on November 21, 2000.
He was born May 5, 1912 in Stanly County, the son of Alice Louise Whitley Smith and Eli Roden Smith. He was a retired barber with Centerville Barber Shop. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Leola Barbee Smith of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tyra and John Pazur of New London; a sister, Kermit S. Curlee of Oakboro; a brother, Henry B. Smith of Oakboro; a grandchild, John William and wife Cheri Pazur of Virginia; a grandchild, Jessica Pazur of New London; and a great-grandchild, Rachel LeAnne Pazur of Virginia.
