Toby Foreman
A funeral service for Toby Jean Foreman, 58, of Albemarle, was held June 6, 2000, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Rev. Gary Hunsucker officiated and burial was in Silver Springs Baptist Church cemetery, Norwood.
Mrs. Foreman died June 4 at her home. She was born June 22, 1941, the daughter of the late Doris Bowers Burleson and Cline Burleson. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Edgar Frank Foreman; two sons, Timmy Foreman and Jeffery Foreman, and a sister, Mrs. Donnie (Elaine) Furr, all of Albemarle. She also had three grandchildren.
Mollie Terry
A graveside service was held for Mollie Louise Terry who died May 26, 2000, in Stanly Memorial Hospital. Rev. Glenn Johnson officiated and burial was in Fairview Memorial Park.
She was born July 3, 1931, in Albemarle, the daughter of Gertie Ragsdale Idelle Terry and Troy B. Terry. She was a box maker at Wiscassett Hosiery Mill.
Survivors include three brothers, Charles David Terry of Albemarle, Michael Dennis Terry of Hope Valley, R.I., and Troy Melvin Terry of Greenville, S.C.; and a sister, Carolyn T. Thompson of New London.
Thomas Wilson
Thomas Otha Wilson, 68, of Midland, died at Northeast Medical Center on May 28, 2000.
Jimmy Bartley conducted the service which was held at Hartsell Chapel in Midland on May 31.
Mr. Wilson was the son of Thomas Otha Wilson and Virginia Theadoshia Ervin Wilson. He was a truck driver with Southern Star Trucking. He was in the United States Navy and a member of Harmony Baptist Church, Stanfield.
He is survived by his wife, Earlene C, Wilson; stepsons Donald R. Bedsole of Salisbury; Richard H. Bedsole of Welcome, N.C., and Ronald D. Bedsole of Tampa, Fla.; and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Pamela Parks of Lexington.
David Coley
Funeral services for David Martin Coley, 51, of Oakboro, were held June 4, 2000, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Martin and the Rev. Jeff Smith presiding.
Burial was in Oakboro Cemetery.
Mr. Coley died June 1, 2000, at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 31, 1949, in Stanly County, son of Jacqueline Brooke King of Oakboro and the late Clyde Alexander Coley. Mr. Coley was a construction worker and a served in the Navy. He was a graduate of West Stanly High School.
Survivors include his mother; sons, Josh Coley of Seattle and Travis Coley of Hickory; daughter, Kasey Coley of Hickory; brother, Clyde Coley of Oakboro; and a special friend Lisa Thompson.
Julia Leonard
Julia Poplin Leonard, 81, of Richfield, died May 28, 2000 at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
She was born August 30, 1918 in Stanly County, the daughter of Phodia Elizabeth Thompson Poplin and Adam Luther Poplin. She was married
to the late James Albert Leonard Sr. She was a retired winder at American & Efird.
A funeral service was held May 30 at Paul's Crossing Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jessie R. Dennis. Burial was in the church cemetery in Richfield. She was a member of that church.
Survivors include a son, James A. Leonard Jr., of Richfield; three daughters, Sue Carol L. Swaringen of Albemarle; Zelia Ann L. Springer and Rebecca Jo L. Ingram, both of Richfield; and a sister, Jewel Starnes of Richfield; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Myra Hiatt
Myra Bowman Hiatt died May 23, 2000, at Britthaven of Piedmont. She was 86. A graveside service was conducted by Rev. Robert Ellis at Aquadale Baptist Church cemetery on May 25.
Mrs. Hiatt was born March 26, 1914, in Patrick County, Va. She was the daughter of Rebecca Bowman Bowman and Frank Bowman. She was married
to the late Hays Bowman and J. W. Hiatt. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia B. Hiatt of Albemarle, Marie Knight of Sanford, and Wavie A. Bates of Dobson; a son, Harry Bowman of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; and a sister, Cora Bowman of Mount Airy. She had 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Edward Miller
Funeral services for Edward Lewis Miller, 84, of New London, were held June 4, 2000, at Kendalls Baptist Church with the Rev. Sonny Reeves and the Rev. Dan Abernathy presiding.
Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites by the Stanly County DAV.
Mr. Miller died June 2, 2000, at Stanly Manor.
He was born April 9, 1916, in Stanly County, son of Bettie and John Miller. Mr. Miller was a retired farmer after having served in Navy for 20 years. He was a member of Kendalls Baptist Church. Mr. Miller served with the Pacific Theatre, after Pearl Harbor he was stationed in Hawaii as Chief Boatswain Mate. He was a graduate of New London High School and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 703 AF&AM.
Survivors include wife, Louise Pickler Miller, of the home; son, Stephen Miller of Sanford; daughter, Anita Almond of New London; sister, Mary Hatley of Charlotte; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ernest Hartsell
Funeral services for Ernest Carlow Hartsell, 74, of Stanfield, were held June 1, 2000, at First Baptist Church, Locust, with Dr. Kinney Wallace presiding. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hartsell died May 30, 2000, at Transitional Health Service in Kannapolis.
He was born February 14, 1926, in Stanly County, son of Ralph and Florence Hartsell. Mr. Hartsell was owner and manager of Hartsell Servicenter in Locust. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of First Baptist Church, Locust.
Survivors include wife, Thelma T. Hartsell of the home; daughter, Sheila Smith of Locust; grandson, Ryan Whitley of Midland; brothers, Willie Hartsell and Lewis Hartsell, both of Locust; sisters, Brettie Barbee and Rossie Lambert, both of Locust; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Alexis Whitley.
Walter Hagans Jr.
Funeral services for Walter Louis Hagans Jr., 71, of Albemarle, were held at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. J. Clifton Dunevant. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle.
Mr. Hagans died May 31, 2000.
He was born April 27, 1929, in Stanly County, son of Julia and Walter Hagans. Mr. Hagans worked for Stanly County Vocational Workshop in switch assembly.
Survivors include brother, Earl Hagans of Albemarle; and sisters, Betty Paige and Linda Knotts, both of Albemarle.
Alton Thompson Sr.
Memorial service for Alton Eugene Thompson Sr., 73, of Charlotte, were held June 4, 2000, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Truette Rogers presiding. Burial was in Kendalls Baptist Church cemetery in New London.
Mr. Thompson died June 1, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare Renaissance.
He was born July 31, 1926, in Albemarle, son of Della and Clyde Thompson. Mr. Thompson was a self-employed carpet manufacturer and served in the Navy. He was married
to the late Johnnye Jane Pickler Thompson. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and a graduate of Albemarle City Schools.
Survivors include son, Alton Thompson Jr. of Dalton, Ga.; daughter, Jane Thompson of Atlanta; brother, Lyndall Thompson of Charlotte; sister, Audrey Byrd of Albemarle; and three grandchildren.
