Loretta Starnes
Funeral services for Loretta Beck Starnes, 67, of Stanfield, were held June 5, 2000, at Indian Hill Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Brandin presiding.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Starnes died June 1, 2000, at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 7, 1932 in Davie County, daughter of William Carlton Beck of Albemarle and the late Alma Mason Beck. Mrs. Starnes was a retired registered nurse and a member of Indian Hill Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include husband, Carl E. Starnes of the home; daughter, Rebecca and husband Todd Pipkin of Stanfield; father; brother, Carlton Beck of Cassett, S.C.; grandchildren, Mason, Jessica and Justin Pipkin.

Memorials may be made to Indian Hill Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 8349 Hwy. 200, Stanfield, N.C. 28163.

Effie Hensley
A graveside service for Effie Reeder Hensley, 92, of Locust was held May 30, 2000, at Providence Church of God, Locust, with Rev. D. Q. Lingerfelt officiating. She died May 25 at the home of her daughter in Katy, Texas.

Mrs. Hensley was born September 23, 1907, in Randolph County. Her parents were Matthew Reeder and Leasey Latham.

Survivors include daughters, Ruby Jackson of Alabama and Joyce Settle of Katy. She was preceded in death by three sons, Emanuel Hensley, Franklin Hensley and Billy Hensley. She also had six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Geraldine Chrisco
Funeral services for Mrs. Geraldine Rogers Chrisco, 80, of 5151 Sardis Road, Charlotte, were held May 30 at Badin United Methodist Church. Interment was in the Fairview Memorial Park, Albemarle. Mrs. Chrisco died on May 28, 2000 at Sardis Nursing Home in Charlotte.

She was born on July 21, 1919 in Stanly County, the daughter of Martin Luther and Carrie Moody Rogers. She was a member of Badin United Methodist Church where she was active in women's circles as long as health permitted. A graduate of the Woman's College in Greensboro (now UNC-Greensboro), she taught business education at Elizabeth City, Carthage, Aquadale, Endy, New London, North Stanly and Albemarle High School from which she retired. She was married icon to the late Otis Lendo Chrisco.

Survivors include son/daughter-in-law, Timothy and Peggy Chrisco of Kinston; daughter/son-in-laws, Barbara and DeV. Walter of Hickory and Beth and Charles Cranford of Charlotte; brothers, Dwight M. Rogers of Birmingham, Ala., and William M. Rogers of Albemarle; sisters, Bessie Lee Fitzgerald of Laurinburg, Virginia Stonestreet of Winston-Salem, Jewel Culp of New London, Betty Vaughn Moser of Lincolnton; grandson, Chris Walter of Hickory; granddaughters, kawren Walter of Hickors, Leigh Ann Chrisco and Louisa Chrisco of Kinston. Brothers who have passed on are H. Wells Rogers, Oron J. Rogers, and Charles J. Rogers. Mrs. Chrisco was formerly of Badin. Sisters Bessie Fitzgerald and Virginia Stonestreet are from Albemarle.

Lizzie Scott
Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Dolena Efird Scott, 74, of 18519-B Dusty Road, Stanfield, will be held today at 2 pm at St. Martin Lutheran Church, Rev. Stanley Leas presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Scott died on May 29, 2000 at Northeast Medical Center.

She was born on August 26, 1925 in Stanly County, daughter of Zora Marylee Huneycutt and Winford Carl Efird. She was married icon to the late Monroe W. (Roe) Scott. Mrs. Scott was retired from Wiscassett Mills where she worked as a fixer and spinner. She was a lifelong member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Betty Kay Wilson of Stanfield; brothers, Carl Efird and Tony Efird of Albemarle, Ondrie Efird of Stanfield; sisters, Virgie Cooper of Thomasville and Rosena Tucker of Stanfield; grandchildren, Holly Wilson and Patrick Wilson of Stanfield.

Memorials may be made to Metrolina Kidney Center Foundation Fund, 217 Branchview Drive SE, Concord, N.C. 28025.

Barbara Crotts
Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Lynn Hedrick Crotts, 60, of 2219 Pope Road, Midland, were held May 28 at Hartsell Chapel in Midland, Roy Lee Tucker presiding. Mrs. Crotts died on May 26, 2000 at Northeast Medical Center in Concord.

She was born on October 25, 1938 in Gaston County, daughter of Joseph T. and Thelma Ibba Huffman Hedrick. She worked as a spotter with Delmar Printing in Charlotte. She was married icon to the late Edward L. McCall.

Surivors are son, Mike McCall and wife, Monaco of Midland; brothers, Horace Hedrick of Dallas, N.C., Howard Hedrick and Kenny Hedrick of Charlotte; sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Norris and Mrs. Aleathia Crowley, both of Midland; and three grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Janice Greer is deceased.

Autie Pinion
Autie Marie Furr Pinion, 81, formerly of Midland, died May 30, 2000 at Britthaven of Charlotte. Her funeral will be held at First Baptist Church cemetery in Midland, Rev. Thomas Gibbs presiding. Visitation is today from 7-8:30 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.

Mrs. Pinion was born on June 13, 1918 in Stanly County, daughter of John and Mary Burris Furr.She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church, Midland. She was married icon to the late William Clifford Pinion.

Surviving are a son, Irwin Pinion of Midland; brother, Roy Lee Furr of Locust; and grandsons, Chad and Chris Pinion.

Lt. Col. Eva Hathcock
A memorial service at Mineral Springs Baptist Church was held May 29, 2000 for Lt. Col. Eva Myrna Hathcock, 78, of Oakboro. Rev. Kenneth Martin officiated. She died May 25 at Stanly Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 13, 1922 in Stanly County. Her parents were Pearl Mae Green Hathcock and James Bunyan Hathcock.

She worked at Stanly Memorial Hospital in the physical therapy department. She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, Oakboro, and graduated from Pfeiffer College and Appalachian State Teachers College. She was in the Army serving as a women's medical specialist Corp./Lt. Col. She served 25 years active duty in Japan, Korea and Germany World War II and the Korean Conflict. After returning from the military, Myrna was one of the first physical therapists at Stanly Memorial Hospital She supported the Oakboro Garden Club. She had a keen appreciation of nature, beautiful music, fine art and travel. Her priorities were always determined by long range goals - the education, encouragement and happiness of nephews, nieces and the well being and comfort of sisters, brothers and parents were always the foremost of her concerns.

Survivors include a brother, Knowles Chalmers Hathcock of Marshville; four sisters, Edna Ruth Hathcock of Oakboro, Minnie Lee Honeycutt of Locust, Evelyn Wheeler of Morris, NY, and Bessie Beautone Hathcock of Oakboro.

Cheryl Lowder
Funeral services for Cheryl Lynn Brocato Lowder, 38, of Hobe Sound, Fla., were held February 26, 2000, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord with the Rev. Dwight Pearson presiding.

Mrs. Lowder died February 21, 2000, at Martin Memorial Hospital.

She was born August 17, 1961, in Shelby, daughter of Lurlene Brocato and the late Frank Brocato. She was a professional engineer for 15 years with Duke Energy Corporation. Mrs. Lowder was a member of Chester ARP Church, and of the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers. She also was a member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers, and of the Society of Women Engineers. She was a registered professional engineer in South Carolina.

Survivors include husband, William Aaron Lowder, Sr., of Hobe Sound, Fla.; mother, Lurlene Standridge Brocato of Concord; sons, William Lowder, Jr., and Anthony Lowder, both of the home; sisters, Barbara Orr of Spartenburg, S.C., and Deborah Brocato of Arlington, Va.; and mother and father-in-law, Martha and Aaron Lowder of Oakboro.

Jim Dunn
Funeral services for Jim Dunn, 93, of Albemarle, were held February 26, 2000, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dan Abernathy and elder Charles Broadway presiding.

Burial was in Hamer Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Mt. Gilead. Mr. Dunn died February 23, 2000, at Britthaven of the Piedmont.

He was born February 16, 1907, son of Calvin and Ada Dunn. Mr. Dunn was a stone cutter with Jacob's Creek Stone Company. He was married icon to the late Katherine Louise Parnell Dunn and was a member of Hamer Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Jerry Dunn and Jimmy Dunn, both of Albemarle; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Geneva Kimrey
Funeral services for Edna Geneva Baucom Kimrey, 84, of Badin, were held February 27, 2000, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Frank Thompson presiding.

Burial was in Norview Gardens in Norwood.

Mrs. Kimrey died February 25, 2000, at NC Lutheran Nursing Homes.

She was born April 21, 1915, in Anson County, daughter of Charlie and Mamie Baucom. Mrs. Kimrey was a homemaker and was married icon to the late Cecil Ray Kimrey. She was a member of Cottonville Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Warren Kimrey of Albemarle and Wayne Kimrey of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Max Baucom of Greensboro; sister, Esther Carpenter of Peachland; and eight grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Julia Lowder, and brothers, Wilson Baucom, Alton Baucom, Reed Baucom and Wade Baucom preceded her in death.
