Wilson P. Kilgore

CHESAPEAKE –Wilson Pinckney Kilgore, 91, passed away quietly Tuesday, August 3rd, 2004. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, a member of the Amphibious ES Brigade Engineers, a life and charter member of the American Legion Post 280, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Hickory Ruritan Club, charter member and Past President. He was also a Chesapeake Planning Commission Chairman for 12 years, Secretary for the Board of Directors at the Chesapeake Farm Bureau, and was employed by the Berkley Feed Corp. for 23 years as Store Manager Salesmen, later self-employed in the Feed Business for another 20 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy M. Kilgore.

Public viewing will be available at the Twiford’s Colonial Chapel at 929 S. Battlefield Blvd on Wednesday, August 4th, 2004 from 11 AM to 4 PM. A graveside service will be held at the Good Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery Thursday, August 5th, 2004 at 2PM with the Pastor Mark Christian officiating.

Ian Treve Gibson

Hertford, NC - Ian Treve Gibson, age 39, of 341 Yeats Lane, Hertford, NC, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Gibson, a native of San Mateo, CA., was the son of B. Gene and Joan J. Gibson of Modesto, CA. He was a Gunner’s Mate in the US Coast Guard and a Christian.

Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Megan Logan of St. Paul, MN.

A celebration of Ian’s life will be Saturday, may 10, 2003, at 4:00 PM at Evangelical Methodist Church on Okisko Road.

Larry Gibbs

Manteo, NC - Larry Ward Gibbs, 65, died at an Outer Banks medical facility on Tuesday, December 16, 2003. Mr. Gibbs was born in Port Jefferson, NY and was disabled and retired from the United States Coast Guard. He was the son of the late Hallett Ward Gibbs and Meatrice G. Gibbs and the husband of Betty Flowers Gibbs.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ricky Ward Gibbs and Sonny Lane Gibbs, both of Wilmington, NC; two sisters, Norma G. Gibbs of Grimesland, NC and Carolyn G. Williford and husband Charles of Engelhard, NC and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Twiford’s Colony Chapel on Saturday, December 20 at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in the Manteo Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Twiford Funeral Home on Friday, December 19, 2003 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM and at other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Outer Banks Cancer Support Group, P.O. Box 1934, Manteo, NC 27954, The Food Pantry at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 787, Manteo or to the charity of one’s choice.

Elizabeth Giaimis

GRANDY, NC - ELIZABETH DeGUGLIELMO GIAIMIS, 91, of Grandy, died Saturday, November 8, 2003, in Nags Head. Mrs. Giaimis was born in Williams Bridge, in the Bronx, New York. She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church.

Mrs. Giaimis was the daughter of the late Angelo and Catherina Strazza DeGuglielmo and the wife of the late Dominick Giaimis.

Surviving are one daughter; Jinny G. Coelho of Grandy, two sons; Salvatore Giaimis of Sugarland, Tx and Richard Giaimis of Yonkers, N.Y. Seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. by Father William Stickle. Burial will be held in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, New Rochelle, N.Y. Twiford’s Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the Giaimis family.

Dorothy Geremia

Grandy - Dorothy Louise Geremia, 69, died Wednesday, September 24 at a Nags Head medical facility. Mrs. Geremia was born in Bowling Green, Virginia, was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was the daughter of the late William and Pearl Lacey Carter Noel and was the wife of Delio Geremia of the home.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Geremia is survived by one daughter, Eva Roach of Kill Devil Hills, NC; two sons, Antonio Geremia of Puerto Rico and Daren Geremia of Nashville, TN; three sisters, Edith Hinson of White Stone, VA, Lillie Brinklow and Rosalee Young both of Richmond, VA; four brothers, William and Alfred Noel both of Tennessee, Harvey and Herbert Noel both of Richmond, VA; three grandchildren, Allen Roach and Cristina and Nicolas Geremia.

A memorial service has not been scheduled at this time but the family has requested that anyone interested in attending to please contact them. Memorial donations may also be made to the American Cancer Society, 930 B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.

Elizabeth Wright Gay

Elizabeth City, NC - Elizabeth Wright Gay, age 85, of Winslow Memorial Nursing Home, died Sunday, January 5, 2003 in Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Norfolk, VA, daughter of the late Charles Harvey and Katie Wallace Wright. She was the widow of Everett Thomas Gay, Sr., and attended Saint Paul Freewill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Gay is survived by two daughters, Barbara Beasley of Elizabeth City, NC, and Dorothy Stone of Tyner, NC; one step son, Everett T. Gay, Jr. of Madison Heights, VA; one sister, Betty Cornelius of Tyner, NC; one brother, Richard E. Wright of Chesapeake, VA; ten grandchildren; many great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at 11:00 am in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Paul Grubbs officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home following the service. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Paul Original Free Will Baptist Church, 1020 Cedar Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Gauss

Nags Head, NC - Elizabeth Thompson Gauss, 95, formerly of Elizabeth City, NC, passed on July 13, 2003 after a brief stay at the Britthaven Nursing Home in Nags Head, NC. Born in Elizabeth City, NC on February 20, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Judge Charles Everett Thompson and the late Sarah Bartlett Thompson and was the widow of Erwin Wood Gauss. She retired to Raleigh, NC in 1973 and was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church, and was a docent at both the NC Museum of Art and the NC History Museum.

Mrs. Gauss is survived by a son, Thompson Gauss of Manteo, NC; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Caroline Gauss Tait.

A service of remembrance will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at 3:00 PM at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Triangle Reading Service, 211 East Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609 or to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, NC 27608.

Phillip Gaskins

Elizabeth City, NC - Phillip Ashton Gaskins, age 50, of 1608 Penny Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died at his residence on Saturday, July 10, 2004. Born in Pasquotank County, NC, he was the son of Margaret “Peggy” Davis Simons of Elizabeth City, NC, and the late Melvin Kendrick Gaskins. He was a graduate of Northeastern High School in 1972, and was a sales clerk in the paint department at Lowe’s.

Besides his mother, Mr. Gaskins is survived by his step-father Alvah “Bud” Simons; one brother Melvin David Gaskins and wife Karen of Chesapeake, VA; and life friend Charles “Chuck” Carey of Elizabeth City, NC. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his maternal grand parents, Carroll and Nellie Trueblood Davis, and paternal grand parents, John Ellis and Edna Mann Gaskins.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday July 14, 2004, at 2:00 P. M. at Twiford Memorial Chapel in Elizabeth City, N. C., with Rev Roger Stanley officiating. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

The family will join friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 P. M. to 8:30 P. M. at Twiford Funeral Home 405 East Church Street, and following the funeral service in the funeral home lobby. At other times the family will be at the home of his mother and stepfather at 1817 Fearing Avenue Elizabeth City.

Frank Gaskins
Ocracoke Native

Frank Puitt Gaskins, age 91, of 122 Waterlily Road, Coinjock, NC, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Sentara Nursing Home, Barco, NC. He was born in Hyde County, NC, son of the late William Joseph Gaskins, Jr. and Ethel Spencer Gaskins, and was the wife of Susan V. Brice Gaskins of the residence. Mr. Gaskins worked for the Ferry Division in Hatteras, NC. He was a Methodist

Besides his wife he is survived by one step-daughter, Lois Johnson Meekins and her husband, Preston of Coinjock, NC; one sister, Dora Jane Garrish; one brother, John Gaskins and his wife Bunny all of Ocracoke, NC; eight step grandchildren and seventeen step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Pauline Austin Gaskins; his step-son, George Thomas Johnson; his sister, Neva O’Neal; four brothers, Al Gaskins, Horace Gaskins, William Joseph Gaskins, III, and Earl Hill Gaskins.

A graveside service will be Friday, February 13, 2004 at 1:00 PM in the Meekins Family Cemetery in Colington, NC, with the Rev. Steve Castle officiating. The family will be the residence, 122 Waterlily Road, Coinjock, NC. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Thressa Garrison

Va. Beach - Thressa “Happy” Etheridge Garrison, 79, of the 600 Block of Aragona Blvd, died Tuesday, September, 9, 2003 at her residence. Mrs. Garrison was born in Norfolk, VA and was retired from the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. She was also a homemaker, a member of the Haygood United Methodist Church and the Powells Point Christian Church. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Emma Melson Etheridge and the widow of David S. Garrison, Jr.

Mrs. Garrison is survived by one daughter, Nancy Garrison Montgomery of Virginia Beach; three sons, Bruce Garrison of Richmond, VA, Gene Garrison of Kitty Hawk and Roger Garrison of Lexington Park, MD; two sisters, Wilma “Sis” Heilman of Fairfield, CA, Mary “Muffy” Merritt of Norfolk, VA; one brother, Herbert “Bunny” Etheridge of Kill Devil Hills; five grandchildren, David, Renee and Mary Lane Garrison and Robert and Mary Elizabeth Montgomery; a devoted cousin, Betsy Deaton of Greensboro, NC and a niece, Sharon Heilman of Sebastapool, CA.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13th at Powells Point Christian Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. David Coxson officiating. Burial will follow immediately in the church cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel in Great Bridge Friday, September 12th from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Sidney G. Garrish

SIDNEY MAE GASKINS GARRISH, 82, of Ocracoke, NC died Friday, June 27, 2003 in an Elizabeth City hospital. Mrs. Garrish, a native of Ocracoke, was a homemaker and a member of the Ocracoke Assembly of God. She was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Betty O’Neal Gaskins. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thurman Styron and second husband, Leslie Garrish.

Mrs. Garrish is survived by a daughter, Betsy Outlaw of Belhaven, NC.

Funeral services will be held at the Ocracoke Assembly of God on Sunday, June 29, 2003 at 3:00 pm with Rev. John White officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 pm prior to the service. There will be a reception in the church fellowship hall following the service. Burial will be in the Ocracoke Community Cemetery.

Jean Brown Garrett, 83, of 527 Meadstown Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004, in the Winslow Memorial Home. She was born in McMinn County, TN to the late Henry K. and Georgie Zimmerman Brown and was the widow of the late Vincent Cecil Garrett, Sr. She was retired from IXL Furniture and attended the Eureka Methodist Church.

Mrs. Garrett is survived by two daughters, Wanda Odell Cain of Cumming, GA. and Frankie Vaughan Lee of Jacksonville, FL.; two sons, Vincent Cecil Garrett, Jr. of Elizabeth City and Thomas D. Garrett of Houston, TX; two brothers, James P. Brown and Bobby Brown both of Englewood, TN; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Brown Vaughan.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at 2:00pm in the Twiford Memorial Chapel by Rev. B. R. Lewis. Burial will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society, % Mrs. Hazel Anderson, 106 S. Ashe Street, Elizabeth City, NC. The family will receive friends and relatives Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30pm in Twiford Memorial Chapel and at other times at the residence, 527 Meadstown Road, Elizabeth City, NC.

RANDY LEE GARRETT
Native of Norfolk, VA.

Randy Lee Garrett, 46 of 379 Old Swamp Road, South Mills, NC died at his residence. He was born in Norfolk, VA to the late Fred and Queenie Cahoon Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a heavy equipment mechanic, a U. S. Marine Corps veteran, and an avid musician. He loved his family dearly.

Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife, Marlene Biggs Garrett of South Mills, NC, a daughter, Crystal Garrett of Newport News, VA.; three sisters, Joyce Olah of Chesapeake, VA, Marie Baker of Florida, and Norma Barnett of Norfolk, VA.; two brothers, Charles Garrett and Jerry Garrett both of Moyock, NC and a half brother Ken Garrett. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Garrett, Jr. and Marvin Garrett and two half brothers Doug and Donald Garrett.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC, Tuesday, April 1, 2003, from 6:00 until 8:00pm. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to his daughter, Crystal Garrett, 422-A Kingsmill Dr., Newport News, VA. 23601 to help defray expenses. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Sharon Tillett Garner

Chesapeake – Sharon Tillett Garner, 47, died December 22, 2003 at Chesapeake General Hospital. Mrs. Garner was born in Elizabeth City, NC to Polly and Jack G. “Rosser” Tillett of Chesapeake. She worked for Hiller Systems, and loved being with her family. Mrs. Garner was predeceased by her brother, David Wayne Tillett.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her children, Sarah and Clayton Garner of Chesapeake; three sisters, Vonda T. Michael and husband Vernon, Paula T. Magruder and husband Larry, Eva Tillett and husband Bruce Pierce all of Chesapeake; one brother, Jack Tillett Jr. of Murfreesboro, NC; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Tillett Family Cemetery, Wanchese, NC with Rev. Charles Etheridge officiating. The family will receive friends at the Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake on Friday from 7:00 until 8:30 pm.

Margaret Gard

Manns Harbor, NC - Margaret Estelle Gibbs Gard, 90, died Friday, September 26, 2003 at her residence. She was born on March 21, 1913 to Herman and Bertha Tillett Gibbs. She was the wife of the late Alton E. Gard, Sr.

Mrs. Gard is survived by four daughters, Rachel Twiddy of Manns Harbor, Myra Twiddy and husband Andrew of Manns Harbor, Arlene Basnight and husband Louie of Manns Harbor and Amy Kelvy of Spruce Pine, NC; two sons, Alton Elroy Gard, Jr and wife Lydia of Manns Harbor, Alvin Ferrell Gard and wife Irma of Henderson, NC; three sisters, Jennie Creef and Inez Gibbs of Manns Harbor and Rev. Bess G. Hunnings of Durham; one brother, Robert Gibbs of Derry, NH; twenty three grandchildren, thirty three great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo on Monday, September 29, 2003 at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will be held immediately following at the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Twiford’s Colony Chapel on Sunday, September 28, 2003 from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM and at the home of Amelia Twiddy, 6393 Preston Twiford Road, Manns Harbor at other times. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church or Harborlight Church, both in Manns Harbor, NC 27953.

William Lewis Galloway, Sr.
Arlington County, VA native

William Lewis Galloway, Sr., age 75, of 1067 Northside Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Galloway, a native of Arlington County, VA, was the son of the late Douglas Galloway and Mary Smith Ridenhour. He was a retired meat cutter, a Baptist, a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a lifetime member of the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post # 6060.

He is survived by his step mother, Helen Faulk of Fredericksburg, VA; his devoted companion, Frances Langely of the residence; two daughters, Virginia Rae Embry and Gerri Lou Sisler both of Elizabeth City, NC; three sons, William Lewis Galloway, Jr., of Dallas, TX, Jimmy Galloway of Oxnard, CA, and Douglas Galloway of Texas; two step daughters, Sherry Marie Turner of Severn, MD and Karen Lee Pfarr of Colorado; one step son, Raymond Allen Reed of Salisbury, MD; four sisters, Judy Mitchell of Winchester, VA, Brenda Martin and Polly Worley both of Palm Beach, FL, and Susie Julio of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; one brother, Butch Galloway of Washington; seventeen grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Galloway.

A memorial service will be Saturday, March 27, 2004, at 1:00 PM at Twiford’s Northside Chapel, 1115 North Road Street, with the Rev. Glenn Greenway officiating and full military honors provided by the VFW. The family will receive friends at the residence of the daughter, Virginia Rae Embry, Amerest Trailer Park Lot 7, Elizabeth City. Memorial donations may be made to the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post # 6060 Honor Guard, 1433 North Road Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

Fannie Forbes Gallop

Fannie Forbes Gallop, 97, of 162 Texas Road, Shiloh, NC, died Thursday, December 12, 2002 in South Port, NC. She was born in Camden County, NC to the late Jonathan Parker and Mary Elizabeth Riggs Forbes and was the widow of Sim Forbes Gallop. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.

Survivors include four sisters, Martha Vaughn and Nellie Forbes both of Perry, GA; Dorothy Forbes of Statesville, NC; and Isabelle Kight of Shiloh, NC; a brother, Elton Forbes of Chesapeake, VA and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, December 14, 2002, at 11:00am in the Wesley United Methodist Church by Rev. David Moehring. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Gid and Isabelle Kight, 118 Texas Road, Shiloh, NC.

John Anacko, Jr.

John Anacko, Jr., of 126 Keeter Barn Road, South Mills, NC, died Wednesday, august 20, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Anacko, a native of Central Falls, RI, was the widower of Catherine Caughlin Anacko and the son of the late John Anacko, Sr., and Agnes Bischok Anacko. He was a retired aircraft mechanic from the Norfolk Naval Air Station and served in the US Navy Air Corps.

Mr. Anacko is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Anacko Stafford of the residence; a sister, Lillian Vaughn of Jamestown, RI; a brother, Walter Anacko of South Attleboro, MA; two grandchildren, Catherine Kelly Ewell and John Ryan Stafford; and two great grandchildren, Abigail Morgan Ewell and Dane Stafford Ewell.

A memorial service will be held at the residence on Sunday, August 24, 2003, at 4:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the residence and requests memorial donations to the Albemarle Hospice, PO Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC 27907-0189.

Elton Gallop

ELTON FULLER GALLOP, JR, 54, of Wanchese, died, Monday, October 27, 2003, in Elizabeth City, N.C. Mr. Gallop was born in Wanchese and was retired from marine maintenance. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and had been a member of Roanoke Island Fire Dept for 15 years.

He was the son of the late Elton Fuller and Iris Williams Gallop, Sr and the husband of Clara Hooper Gallop.

Besides his wife surviving are two children; Carla Gallop of Wanchese and Elton F. Gallop III of Kill Devil Hills, three sisters; Ruby Johnson of Chesapeake, Va, Rose Whidbee of Va Beach, Va and Beryl Williams of Wanchese and two grandchildren; Dusty Lee Gallop and Rachel Michele Gallop.

A Celebration Of Life will be held Sunday, November 2, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. in Bethany United Methodist Church by the Rev. Tom Supplee and Dr. David Dalton. Burial will be in Cudworth Cemetery. Friends may join the family at Twiford’s Funeral Home, Saturday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Twiford’s Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the Gallop family.
