Raymond Gallop

Red Oak, NC - Raymond Keith Gallop, age 47, of State Road 1003, Red Oak, NC, died Tuesday, August 10, 2004, in Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount, NC. He was a native of Camden County, NC, and was the son of the late Norman Earl Gallop and Bertha Jane Moore Gallop of Red Oak, NC.

Besides his mother, Mr. Gallop is survived by five sisters, Norma Charlene Gallop Rose and Wanda Gallop Lee both of Rocky Mount, NC, Tammy Gallop Story of Hertford, NC, Carol Gallop Jones and Peggy Gallop Connie of Red Oak, NC; two brothers, Richard Earl Gallop of Walnut Cove, NC, and Larry Connie of Rocky Mount, NC.

A graveside service will be Thursday, August 12, 2004, at 4:00 PM in Wesley United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Roland Cooper officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 2:30PM to 3:45PM before the service. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC, is in charge of arrangements.

Alvin Gaimel

Kill Devil Hills, NC - Sheldon Alvin (Ace) Gaimel, 80, of 1873 Colington Road died Thursday, September 4, 2003 at Albemarle Hospital due to complications from Lung Cancer. He was a lifetime resident of Colington and was the son of the late Rayon Decator and Eleanor Meekins Gaimel. Ace was a member of Colington United Methodist Church. He worked for years at the Avalon and Kitty Fishing Piers. He loved fishing and Nascar Winston Cup races.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Wilton Gaimel; two sisters, Stella G. Beasley and Helena G. Moore. He is survived by a sister, Evelyn G. Carlisle of Kinston; nephews, Randall Wiggins and Brent Wiggins, both of LaGrange, NC; Charlie R. (Robbie) Beasley of Southern Shores, Dwight Beasley of Long Island, and Kenneth Moore of Colington; nieces, Marilyn Whittington of Manteo, Cathy Eubanks of LaGrange, NC and Rhonda Swift of Miami, FL; great-nephews and nieces including a very special great niece, Kenya L. Whittington of Manteo.

Funeral services will be held at the Hilltop Cemetery in Colington on Sunday, September 7th at 2:30 PM. Visitation will be held at Twiford’s Colony Chapel on Saturday, September 6th from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM and other times at his home in Colington. Debbie Gabriel

Debra “Debbie” D. Gabriel, left us to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 after courageously fighting breast cancer for seven years. During this long battle Debbie never complained about her pain or the distress caused by the cancer treatment. She was always ready to help others with a big smile and a gracious heart. Debbie’s compassion for others was evident in everything she did and said. Her passion for teaching allowed her to influence the lives of children and teachers alike. Debbie will be missed and her life will continue to be an inspiration for all who loved her.

Debbie is survived by her husband of 33 years Bob Gabriel, her son Bobby Gabriel, Jr of Little Rock, AR, her daughter, Nicole Gabriel of Kill Devil Hills, her mother Julia D. Manherz of Wintergreen, VA, her brother Tom Duncan of Long Beach, CA and many wonderful uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Debbie was pre-deceased by her father Captain Jack M. Manherz, USNA; retired, infant sister, Julia E. Manherz and in-laws George and Mimi Gabriel.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Saint Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church, Monday, August 23, 2004, at 5:00 p.m. Friends may join the family at Twiford’s Funeral Home, Sunday, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Greenville Administrative Resource Center 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, N.C. 27834. 800-282-4914.

Reed Gabel

Reed Crofton Gabel, 21, passed away Aug. 14, 2004. Born in Key West, Fla., Oct. 24, 1982, to Dale and Shelley Gabel, he was a valedictorian graduate of Great Bridge High School and a graduate of the College of William and Mary. He is survived by his parents; a brother, Chandler B. Gabel of Gatesville, N.C.; and grandmother, Hazel Gabel of Sioux Falls, S.D. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Colonial Chapel, 929 S. Battlefield Blvd., today from 7 to 8 p.m. A funeral will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name may be made to the Virginia Living Museum.

Betty Jean Fullerton

Mrs. Betty Jean Hooper Fullerton, age 70, of 105 Tulls Bay Drive, Moyock, NC, died Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Albemarle Hospital. Born in Chincoteague, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Dalton and Mary Midgett Hooper, and sister of the late Maxine H. Kuhlmann. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Mrs. Fullerton was the loving mother of three daughters: Mrs. Terri Lynch of Virginia Beach, VA, Mrs. Kathy Carroll of Barco, NC, and Mrs. Julia Schimmel of Colorado Springs, CO, and the devoted grandmother of Sean, Ian, Daniel, Sara, Colin, Eric and Austin. Even though we know she’s with her family in heaven now, her cherished presence will be greatly missed by her family left behind.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday August 4, 2004 at 3:30 PM at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, in Manteo, NC. Burial will be in the Family Cemetery in Rodanthe, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Twiford’s Colony Chapel, 500 Budleigh Street, Manteo, NC is in charge of arrangements.

Brian Fuller

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. - BRIAN PAUL FULLER, 48, of Kill Devil Hills, died, Tuesday, August 10, 2004, in Nags Head. Mr. Fuller was born in the U.S. Army Hospital in Bad Cannstatt, Germany and was employed with Coastal Services. Brian was a Catholic and loved gardening and cooking. He was active in the Dare County Parks and Recreation as a coach.

He was the son of the late Paul E. and Shirley Jean Norris Fuller and the husband of the late Joan Zauss Fuller.

Surviving are his son; Brandon Allen Fuller of Kill Devil Hills, three sisters; Laurie Clark of Mingo Junction, Ohio, Rose Parrisi of Wintersville, Ohio and Darlene Nelson of Spartanburg, S.C., his brother; James R. Fuller of San Antonio, Texas and his paternal grandmother; Audrey Fuller of Mingo Junction, Ohio.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 14, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in the Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church by Father Joseph Klaus. Memorials may be made to the Brandon Allen Fuller Fund c/o Southern Bank Kill Devil Hills, N.C. 27948. Twiford’s Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the Fuller Family.

Joan Fuller

Kill Devil Hills - Joan Zauss Fuller, 52, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Outer Banks Hospital. Mrs. Fuller was born in Indianapolis, IN and was a Purchaser for Kitty Hawk Kites. She graduated from Indiana University/Purdue University in Indianapolis and was a former Merchandising Coordinator for American Eagle Outfitters in Pittsburgh, PA. She was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Steubinville, OH and Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kitty Hawk, NC. She was a supporter for the Relay for Life and the Komen Indianapolis Race For The Cure.

Joan has been an inspiration to those who have known her, for her courage in her battle with cancer for 13 years.

She was the daughter of Joseph W. Zauss of Indianapolis, IN and the late Eileen Walsh Zauss and the wife of Brian P. Fuller of Kill Devil Hills.

Besides her father and husband, she is survived by one son, Brandon Allen Fuller of Kill Devil Hills; three sisters, Mary L. Callahan of Indianapolis, IN, Julia A. Tiedman of Bismark, ND and Anne T. Brown of Jamestown, IN; one brother, C. Joseph Zauss of Plainfield, IN; she was preceded in death by one sister, Paula M. Kendrick.

A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church on Monday, July 5, 2004 at 11:00 AM with Father Joseph Klaus officiating.

Mary Frances Williams Fulcher
Former School Teacher

Mary Frances Williams Fulcher, age 90, of 221 Powers Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at the Albemarle Hospital. Mrs. Fulcher, a native of Pasquotank County, was the widow of Octavius Coke Fulcher, and the daughter of the late William Francis Williams and Mary Holmes Williams. She was a member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a charter member of the Blackwell Bell Ringers, a member of the Order Of The Eastern Star, Elizabeth City Chapter #44 OES, and was a former school teacher.

She is survived by five daughters, Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Husser and husband Louie of Chesapeake, VA, Ann F. Richter and husband Allen of Virginia Beach, VA, Frances Williams Hines of Jacksonville, FL, Tay Davenport of Kill Devil Hills, NC, and Dottie F. Anderson and husband Benjy of Elizabeth City, NC; a son, O.C. Fulcher and wife Cleo of Southern Shores, NC; two sister-in-laws, Eleanora “Nonie” Williams of Elizabeth City, NC and Rachel Cox of Mary Esther, FL; ten grandchildren, Marilyn, Angelia, Tammy, Amy, Jennifer, Stacy, Melissa, Margie, Laura, and Seth; and four great grandchildren, McKenzie, Marley, Ashtyn, and Hayden.

A funeral service will be Friday, January 23, 2004 at 2:00 pm in Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Bob Crisp officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Benjy Anderson, 221 Powers Drive, Elizabeth City, NC. Harry Fruit

KITTY HAWK, NC - HARRY A. FRUIT, JR, 93, of Kitty Hawk, died in Nags Head, NC on Saturday, October 11, 2003. Previously a resident of Norfolk and the Kempsville Borough of Virginia Beach, Mr. Fruit was a retired Senior Vice-President of Sovran Bank (now Bank of America). Mr. Fruit was the son of the late Harry A. and Nellie Webster Graves Fruit. His wife, Frances Holladay Fruit, predeceased him in 1976.

He led a full life, much of it devoted to public service. Mr. Fruit was a Boy Scout leader, and very active in the Methodist Church, being a founding member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Chesapeake and serving as Lay Leader and Speaker for many years. He was a member of Doric Lodge # 44 for over 50 years. Mr. Fruit was a charter member and officer of the Southside Lions Club and later served as President of the Kempsville Lions Club, completing a term as Deputy District Governor in 1968-69. He was the recipient of the Kempsville Club’s “Lion of the Year” Award in 1976-77. After his retirement from banking he was appointed by Virginia Beach City Council to serve as a Commissioner for Mosquito Control, a volunteer position he held over 6 years.

Since moving to Kitty Hawk, he had been a member of the Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church. He enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors and occasionally carving a duck from a piece of tupelo wood. He will be missed by his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Fruit is survived by his son, Bill Fruit, with whom he lived, and his wife, Gee, and their three children, Jean Fruit Moyer, Grace Eliabeth Fruit and William Shepherd Fruit, Jr; son John Curtis Fruit, of Virginia Beach, and his wife, Sandra and their son, John Curtis Fruit, Jr and daughter Anne Durham; daughter Nell Fruit Malat, of Nags Head, and her husband Joseph, and their children Asheley Moore Emmett and Andrew Moore. He is also survived by great-grandsons, William Smith and Benjamin Durham, and great-granddaughters, Jessica Durham and Blaize Moore.

There will be a brief graveside service at Old St. Luke’s Cemetery in Smithfield, Va, on Monday, October 13, at 11:00 a.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Twiford Funeral Home, Manteo, NC.

Maria Frucci-Saunders

SOUTHERN SHORES, NC - MARIA LORRAINE FRUCCI-SAUNDERS, 41, of Southern Shores, NC died Monday, August 2, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Saunders was born February 12, 1963 at England Air Force Base, LA. She was graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1985 with a degree in English and Fine Arts and was graduated from Boston University in 1992 with a Doctor of Laws degree.

Mrs. Saunders was the daughter of Susan Edmondson Frucci, Ph.D of Nags Head, NC and the late Lt. Col. Allen LeRoy Frucci, USMC, Ret.

Besides her mother, Mrs. Saunders is survived by her husband, Randy Max Saunders, and daughter, Arabella Moore Saunders of the residence in Southern Shores, NC; two step-sons, Tyler Saunders and Joshua Saunders, both of Grandy, NC; two brothers, Steven Frucci of Virginia Beach, VA and Greg Frucci of Wilmington, NC.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church on Thursday, August 5, 2004 at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Charles E.B. Gill officiating. The family will be at the home of Susan Edmondson Frucci, 213 Outlook Ct., Nags Head, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Andrews by the Sea Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 445, Nags Head, NC 27959, or the USMC Toys for Tots, P.O. Box 1947, Quantico, VA 22134.

Doris Frias

DORIS DEAN MORGAN FRIAS, 92, formerly of Forest Park Dr., Elizabeth City, NC died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, in the Winslow Memorial Home. She was born in Pasquotank County, NC to the late Daniel Webster and Mary Perry Morgan. Mrs. Frias was the widow of the late William Lister Frias. She was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church and was a retired salesperson for W. T. Grant Company and Roses.

Mrs. Frias is survived by two sons, William C. Frias of Phoenix, AZ and Bron R. Frias of Baltimore, MD; three grandchildren, Michele Frias of Phoenix, AZ, Eric Frias of Blacksburg, VA and Adam Frias of Ft. Collins, CO. She was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters; Calvin Morgan, Effie Ives, Victor Morgan, Seth Morgan, Marguerite Hopson, Katherine Palmer, Glenna Perry and Daniel Morgan Jr.

The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, Thursday evening July 15, from 7:00pm until 8:30pm.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 16, 2004, at 11:00am in the Corinth Baptist Church by Dr. Roy Head. Burial will follow in the New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives in the Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the church service.

Larry Wayne Freeman, Sr.
Native of Pasquotank County

Larry Wayne Freeman, Sr., age 62, of 101 Village Drive, Elizabeth City, NC, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Freeman, a native of Pasquotank County, was the son of the late Herman Glover Freeman and Kathaleen Munden Freeman. He was a commercial printer for MMT Printers, a member of Blackwell Baptist Church, and the Eureka Masonic Lodge # 317 AF & AM.

Mr. Freeman is survived by a daughter, Debbie Stokes of Kitty Hawk, NC; a son, Larry Wayne Freeman, Jr., of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Martha Edwards and Carolyn Gibbs both of Elizabeth City, NC; a brother, Herman G. Freeman of Elizabeth City, NC; and three grandchildren.

No services are planned. The family will receive friends at the residence of his sister, Mr. & Mrs. Joe Gibbs, 101 Village Drive, Elizabeth City, NC. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 404 Jessup Street, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

Judith E. Fox

KILL DEVIL HILLS, NC - JUDITH EASON FOX, 88, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died March 17, 2004 after a long illness. She leaves us to be reunited with her beloved husband, Fred, who died March 3, 1988.

“Judy” is survived by her three children, Fred Fox and wife, Fran of Wanchese, NC, Rick Fox of Nags Head, NC and Judy Gay Fox and husband, John Ciraso of Lincoln, MA, grandchildren, Patti Day, Kathy Day, Tyler Fox, Alexandra Fox, Tanya Wallen, Bryan Hooe, Tracy Hooe and 6 great-grandchildren.

Judy and her husband, Fred retired to the Outer Banks 30 years ago. She is remembered for her style, love of life and devotion to her family. The family would like to pay a special thank you to her caregivers at Britthaven of the Outer Banks.

A memorial service will be held at Twiford Funeral Home on Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 220, Raleigh, NC 27605-1351.

Ruth Albertson White Foster

South Mills, NC - Ruth Albertson White Foster, age 76, of 242 Keeter Barn Road, South Mills, NC, died Monday, January 6, 2003, at Chesapeake General Hospital. Mrs. Foster, a native of Camden County, NC, was the wife of Thomas Donald Foster of Elizabeth City, NC, and the daughter of the late Charlie Lee Albertson and Rosa Lee Sawyer Albertson. She was a retired Food Administration Supervisor from Naval Security Group Activity Northwest, Chesapeake, VA, and a member of Sharon United Methodist Church in South Mills.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Rosa Ann White Lord of Virginia Beach, VA; a son, Joseph John White, Jr., of Hertford, NC; three sisters, Bessie Albertson Stafford of Elizabeth City, NC, Marguerite Albertson Roache of Chesapeake, VA, and Irene Sawyer Wagnor of Washington, NC; two brothers, Overton Albertson and Jarvis R. Albertson both of South Mills, NC; six grandchildren Glen Johnson and wife Karina, Tommy Johnson, Joseph C. White, Ruth Dawn Johnson, Buddy White and wife Stephanie, and John White and wife Nichole; three great grandchildren, Amberly Carter, and Ronald and Ridge Johnson; a her beloved pet, Tinee.

Funeral services will be Saturday, January 11, 2003, at 2:00 PM at Sharon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Berry Taylor and the Rev. Jim Krepps officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Twiford’s Northside Chapel Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and at other times at the residence of the grandson, Tommy Johnson, 4472A Ocean View Avenue, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. Dora Andersen

Mrs. Dora Lee Forbes Andersen, age 92, of 123 Church Road, Harbinger, NC, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Albemarle Hospital. Mrs. Andersen, a native of Currituck County, was the daughter of the late Daniel Stanton Forbes and Lovie Brice Forbes. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of Powell’s Point Christian Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Koch Bailey and Mary Alice Armstrong both of Harbinger, NC; two sisters, Marry Gallop and Launa Owens both of Harbinger, NC; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be Wednesday June 2, 2004, at 1:00 PM at Powell’s Point Christian Church with the Rev. David Coxson and the Rev. Ben Baum officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at the residence of the daughter, Betty Koch Bailey, 183 Church Road, Harbinger, NC and receive friends immediately after the service in the church fellowship hall.

THOMAS DONALD FOSTER
Pasquotank County native

Thomas Donald Foster, 69, of 203 North Street, Elizabeth City, NC died at his residence Tuesday, June 17, 2003. He was born in Pasquotank County, NC to Mrs. Irene Jones Foster of Elizabeth City and the late Arthur Foster. He was the widower of the late Ruth Albertson Foster. Mr. Foster was retired from the Ford Plant, Norfolk, member of the Newland United Methodist Church and was a veteran of the US Army.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a stepdaughter, Rosa Ann White Lord of Virginia Beach, VA., a stepson, Joseph John White, Jr. of Hertford, NC; two brothers, Garland Foster of Pinetops, NC and Winfred Foster of Elizabeth City, NC, six step grandchildren, one of whom is Thomas Patrick Johnson of Va. Beach, VA, and three step great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday, June 23, 2003, at 11:00am in the Koen Cemetery by Rev. Toni Wood. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will be at the residence of his mother, Irene Foster, 114 Tadmore Road, Elizabeth City, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Newland United Methodist Church, 1686 Morgan’s Corner Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or to one’s favorite charity.

Ben Dallas Fortune
Fort Gibson, OK native

Ben Dallas Fortune, age 79, of 1356 Weeksville Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Albemarle Hospital. Mr. Fortune, a native of Fort Gibson, OK, was the husband of Sarah Lewis Fortune of Shiloh, NC, and the son of the late James Benjamin Fortune and Maude McCulley Fortune. He was a retired roofing contractor and a Baptist.

Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, JoAnn L. Young of Front Royal, VA, Linda Ferracci of Elizabeth City, NC, and Pamela Wilkins of Shiloh, NC; one sister, Maude Turney of Payson, AZ; six grandchildren, Robert Dallas Landreth, Steven W. Landreth, Melissa Primaky, Kristin Pierce, James Benjamin Wilkins, and Jami Rene Wilkins, and six great grand children.

A funeral service will be Thursday, March 20, 2003, at 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry W. Young and the Rev. Ed Hawkins officiating. Entombment will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30 at Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, and immediately after the service at the church, and at other times at the residence of the daughter, Mr. & Mrs. James R. Wilkins, 907 Sandy Hood Road, Shiloh, NC.

William Michael “Billy” Foreman, 13, of 2204 Shady Dr., Elizabeth City, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Okinawa, Japan to Dale Curtis and Susan Simoneau Foreman. Billy was an eighth grade student at Elizabeth City Middle School. He was a member of the American Youth Soccer Organization.

Besides his parents, Billy is survived by two brothers, Daniel C. Foreman and Robert C. Foreman both of Elizabeth City; paternal grandparents, Donald and Betty Foreman of Branson, Missouri and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, May 9, 2003, at 1:00pm in the Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC by Rev. F. Joe Griffith. Burial will follow in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 and at other times at their residence, 2204 Shady Drive, Elizabeth City, NC. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC is in charge of funeral arrangements.
