A. Jerry Daniels

MANTEO, N.C. - ALBERT JERRY DANIELS, 67, of Manteo, died, Wednesday, November 19, 2003, in his residence. Mr. Daniels was born in Manteo and was a retired Chief Mate with the Merchant Marines. He was a member of Manteo Masonic Lodge #521 AF&AM; and Dare County Shrine Club.

He was the son of the late Albert Hayes and Florence Midgett Dainels and the husband of Marion Gaimel Daniels.

Besides his wife surviving are three daughters; Cori Peters and husband Scott of Statesville, N.C., Jeri (Fuzzy) Hollis and husband Tommy of Wanchese and Wendy Linzey and husband Mike of Florida, two sons; Harley Hayes and wife Renee and Lance Hayes and wife Barbara both of Wanchese, two sisters; Jeanine Tillett and Frances Coleman both of Manteo, one brother; Luther Daniels, Sr of Manteo, 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. A grave side service will be held Saturday, November 22, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in Cudworth Cemetery by Dr. David Dalton. Friends may join the family at Twiford's Funeral Home, Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. In addition to flowers memorials may be made to Sudan Crippled Children's Fund, P.O. Drawer 490, New Bern, N.C. 28563-0490. Twiford's Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the Daniels Family.

Charles Daniel

MANTEO, NC - CHARLES BENNETT DANIEL, of Manteo, died, Wednesday, February 11, 2004, in Elizabeth City, NC. Mr. Daniel was born in Wake Forest, NC and was retired from the grocery industry as a truck transportation dispatcher. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.

He was the son of the late Needham Broughton and Mollie Williams Daniel and the husband of Mary Bowen Daniel of the home.

Besides his wife surviving are three daughters, Marion Catherine York of Benson, NC, Marie York ( Beeper) Frees of Manteo and Vicki D. Wall of Wake Forest, NC; four sons, Charles Daniel York of Fredericksburg, VA, Benjie York of Mashoes, Ronald B. Daniel and Richard E. Daniel both of Wake Forest, NC; two sisters, Betty Timberlake of Youngsville, NC and Peggy Cooke of Raleigh, NC; three brothers, Homer Daniel and Ted Daniel both of Wake Forest, NC and N.B. Daniel of Blackstone, VA; 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, February 14, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in Twiford’s Colony Chapel by the Rev. Ronnie Midgett. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Manteo Faith Baptist Church, P.O. Box 5, Manteo, N.C. 27954. Twiford’s Colony Chapel Manteo is assisting the Daniel family.

Joseph Dalgliesh

POWELLS POINT, NC - JOSEPH FERGUSON DALGLIESH, 82, of Powells Point, NC died Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Dalgliesh, born in Westfield, NJ, was a carpet estimator and was a member of St. Andrews by the Sea Episcopal Church. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant during WWII and was also a POW. He was the son of the late James Clark and Jessie Brown Dalgliesh.

Mr. Dalgliesh is survived by his wife, Jeannette Gilberta Macfarlane Dalgliesh of the residence; four daughters, Kedron D. Oberndorf of Weymouth, MA, Lisa D. Lucas and Amy J. Dalgliesh, both of Powells Point, NC, and Alison G. Dalgliesh of Wheaton, MD; one son, Scott Dalgliesh of Mt. Airy, MD; a sister, Margaret Olski of Hammond, NY; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. on Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at 3:00 pm.

A local service at St. Andrew by the Sea Episcopal Church is tentatively set for Saturday, August 28, 2004. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Albemarle Hospice, P.O. Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.

Rosalie Dale

Grandy, NC - Rosalie E. “Deedle” Dale, age 66, formerly of Grandy, NC, died Thursday, May 13, 2004, in Sentara Barco Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Edward Dale and Rosalie Doxey Dale. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Andrew Rowinski. She is survived by a cousin, Mary Llew Bowers Roberts and her husband Sid Roberts of Norfolk, VA and Bath, NC.

A graveside service will be Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at 3:00 PM in Laurel Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Poplar Branch, NC, with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, 601 Children’s Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is in charge of arrangements.

Marie D'Ambra

Manteo, NC - Marie Ann Procaccini D’Ambra, 68, formerly of Providence, Rhode Island went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 13, 2004. She had been in Hospice care and died comfortably at her son’s home in Manteo. Marie was retired from Standard Register Company in Raleigh where she had served as Office Supervisor. Since her retirement she was active as a Helping Hand volunteer for the Manteo Police Department. She was a long time supporter and volunteer for the Creative Choices Crisis Pregnancy Center in Manteo. Though she struggled with her illness in her later years, she was still determined to serve her Lord Jesus through volunteer service to her community. Marie was active in her Christian faith and a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class of Manteo Baptist Church. Marie was in attendance at Still Waters Independent Baptist Church, in Kitty Hawk, NC. She was the wife of the Late Dr. Francis T. D.’Ambra, also of Providence.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Patrice D’Ambra Burdette of Raleigh; two sons David A. D’Ambra of Manteo and Chief Francis T. D’Ambra, Jr., also of Manteo. Marie was the loving grandmother of 7 granchildren.

A funeral service will be held for her at Manteo Baptist Church at 9:00 AM on Friday, April 16, 2004. A graveside Christian internment service will be held for her at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, NC at 2:30 PM on April 16th. Pastor Tony Facenda will officiate both the funeral and graveside services. The family will be receiving friends at Twiford Funeral Home in Manteo on Thursday, April 15th from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

Memorial gifts for the family may be made to Creative Choices Crisis Pregnancy Center, P.O. Box 1449, Manteo, NC 27954.

EVANS E. CUTRELL

ELIZABETH CITY – Evans E. “ Tony” Cutrell, born in Hyde County, NC passed away December 29th, 2003; he was 71. He is the son of the late Frank Leslie and Willie Neal Cuthrell.

Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Vogel and husband Bill Vogel, Melody Elliott and a son Anthony Cutrell and wife Cindy; also three grandchildren, Beau, Miranda, and Jessica. Other survivors include his sister Ella and husband Archie Silverthorne, and Gloria and husband Warren Biemesderfer, and several nieces and nephews; also survived by his lifetime companion Bessie Jackson and family.

Tony served in the United States Airforce during the Korean War. He worked for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Shipfitter and later years he farmed for a living.

A graveside service will be held at Blackwater Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday January 3rd, 2004 at 11:00 AM. Friends and family will gather at Twiford Funeral Home 929 S. Battlefield Blvd. Friday from 7:00-8:30 PM and other times at the Cliver Residence at 6528 Blackwater Rd. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Blackwater Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Maurice Cutrell

Maurice Forbes Cutrell, age 75, of 753 Sandy Hook Road, Riddle, NC, died Thursday, November 6, 2003 at Guardian Care Nursing Home. She was born in Camden County, NC, the daughter of the late Wilse R. Forbes and Annie F. Forbes, and was the widow of Willie S. Cutrell. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, and a member and secretary of the Couples Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Cutrell is survived by two sons, Harold W. “Bubbie” Cutrell and wife Carol of Elizabeth City, NC, and Wayne M. Cutrell of Riddle, NC; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a special friend, Tommy Wood.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 9, 2003 at 2:00 PM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dave Combs and the Rev. John Luton officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM, and immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home, and at other times at the residence. In lieu of flower, memorial donations may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, P.O. Box 31, Shiloh, NC 27974 or Albemarle Hospice, P.O. Box 189, Elizabeth City, NC 27907-0189. Vera Swain Baker
Native of Tyrrell County, NC

Vera Swain Baker, age 79, of 111 Cartwright Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at Albemarle Hospital. She was born in Columbia, NC, daughter of the late Charles L. Swain and Dora Voliva Swain and was wife of Wesley Thomas Baker of the residence. She was a member of Sandy Acres Freewill Baptist Church in Columbia, NC.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Baker is survived by a son, Michael C. Baker and wife Georgia of Elizabeth City, NC; two sisters, Esther Rhodes of Columbia, NC, and Katie Reynolds of Jamesville, NC; and two grandsons, Steven and Johnathan Baker. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by three brothers, Grady, Joseph, and David Swain.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 31, 2003 at 11:00 AM in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Phil Smith officiating. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30, and immediately following the service in the lobby of the funeral home, and at other times at the residence of Michael and Georgia Baker, 1270 Northside Road, Elizabeth City, NC. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City, NC is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Frank Cutitta, Sr.

Delran, NJ - Dr. Frank John Cutitta, Sr., age 77, of Delran, NJ, died Thurday, June 17, 2004 in Grandy, NC. He was a native of Riverside, NJ. He was the son of the late Frank Cutitta and Constance Bartalotta Cutitta, and was the husband of Janet Kessler Cutitta of the residence. Mr. Cutitta served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired professer where he taught at Burlington County College in Pemberton, NJ. He was also a retired insurance broker and travel agent. He was also a New Jersey State Trooper for 11 years, and was a procurement agent for the U.S. Government.

Beside his wife he is survived by one daughter, Jane Louise Cutitta Ryan of Delran, NJ; one son Frank John Cutitta, Jr. of Wayland, MA; two sisters, Rosalie Cutitta and Theresa Cutitta Bernotas both of Delran, NJ; one brother Pasquale Cutitta of NY; five granddaughters, Ann Ryan, Dana Ryan, Olivia Cutitta, Lynn Ryan, and Genna Cutitta.

Mr. Cutitta is being shipped to Chadwick Memorial Funeral Home in Riverside, NJ, where a funeral service will be conducted at a later date.

Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

HORACE MELVILLE CUTHRELL
Native of Hyde County, NC

Horace Melville Cuthrell, 87, of 107 North 343, Camden, NC died Monday, May 5, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Hyde County, NC, to the late B. C. and Mattie Lanier Cuthrell and was the widower of the late Minnie Louise Lassiter Cuthrell. Mr. Cuthrell was a retired farmer, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and member of the Widow’s Sons Masonic Lodge #75 AF & AM. He was a former member of the Camden County Board of Education.

Mr. Cuthrell is survived by two daughters, Careen C. Mansfield, and husband, Richard, of Richmond, VA and Suzanne C. Berry and husband, Johnny, of Camden, NC; a son, Mel Cuthrell and wife, Anita, of Camden, NC; a sister, Mildred Harrell of Virginia Beach, VA; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren and a special friend, Wendy Sawyer of Camden, NC. He was preceded in death by a great grandson.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, May 8, 2003, at 11:00am in the New Hollywood Cemetery by Rev. David Moehring. The family will be at their residence, 107 North 343, Camden, NC. Twiford Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC is in charge of arrangements.

Richard A. Cutchin

MANNS HARBOR, NC - RICHARD ANTHONY CUTCHIN, Sr., 66, of Manns Harbor, NC, died Thursday, October 07, 2004 at the Outer Banks Hospital, Nags Head. Mr. Cutchin, born in Norfolk, VA, was a truck dispatcher and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was the son of the late John A. Cutchin, Sr. and the late Stewart Folk Cutchin.

Mr. Cutchin is survived by his wife, Maria Semans Cutchin of the residence; a daughter, Lisa Cutchin Harding of Dover, DE; two sons, Richard A. Cutchin, Jr. of Federalsburg, MD and Robert Cutchin of Dover, DE; two sisters, Anne D. Filer and Betty C. Starrette, both of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers, John A. Cutchin, Jr. of Portsmouth, VA and David W. Cutchin of Norfolk, VA; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at Twiford’s Colony Chapel, Manteo on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 11:00 am. A graveside service and burial will be in the Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery, Suffolk, VA on Saturday at 4:00 pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Walter Ball

Walter Elijah Ball, age 84, of 725 Halls Creek Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Friday, January 16, 2004 in Albemarle Hospital. He was born in Pasquotank County, NC, the son of the late Walter and Evelyn Wilson Ball and was the husband of Catherine White Ball. Mr. Ball was an elevator mechanic and a member of Mt. Herman United Methodist Church.

Mr. Ball is also survived by two daughters, Linda and husband Jeff Kenis of Bethesda, MD, and Kay Acurio of Elizabeth City, NC, one son, Robert Ball and wife Pat of Worcester, NY, one sister, Lucy Cartwright of Elizabeth City, NC, one brother, Jimmy Ball of Mt. Olive, NC, 12 grandchildren, Walter Ball, Frances Ball, Elizabeth Ball, Andrea Ball, Tom Helmstadt, Scott Helmstadt, Susan Whiteman, Kelly Burnette, Dennis Fish, Michael Kenis, Ruben Acurio, Erika Acurio and six great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Sunday, January 18, 2004 in Twiford’s Memorial Chapel at 3:00 pm with Rev. Haywood Gillikin officiating. Burial will be in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the lobby of Twiford’s Memorial Chapel and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers memorial donations maybe made to Mt. Herman United Methodist Church, 693 Methodist Church Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC is in charge of arrangement.

Jackson L. "Jack" Curles

WANCHESE, NC - JACKSON “JACK” LEWIS CURLES, 80, of Wanchese, NC died Friday, March 19, 2004 at his residence. Mr. Curles, born in Duck, NC, was retired with 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy, having served during WWII. He was the son of the late Jackson and Fannie Rodgers Curles and the widower of the late Hazel Buchert Curles.

Mr. Curles is survived by two sisters, Gladys C. White of Virginia Beach, VA and Dora C. Hines of Tampa, FL; and one brother, Major Curles of Wanchese, NC.

A graveside service will be held in Austin Cemetery, Kitty Hawk, NC on Monday, March 22, 2004 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Steve Crews officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of Jean Curles Tillett, 452 E.R. Daniels Rd., Wanchese, NC.

Dennis Marvin Cupery

Elizabeth City, NC - Dennis Marvin Cupery, age 62, of 747 Firetower Road, Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Madison, WI, son of the late Samuel John and Ann Devries Cupery, and husband of Beverly Lufkin Cupery of the residence. He was past president of The Fleet Reserve and served as a chairman and bingo caller for The Fleet Reserve. Mr. Cupery was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served in the church choir, a member of The American Cribbage Congress and played the French horn with the Alex B. Conn brass ensemble. He also played the French horn in the Navy Orchestra, and was a musical instrument repairman.

Besides his wife Mr. Cupery is survived by one daughter, Susan Smith of VA; three sons, Robert and Wesley Hotalen both of NC, Doug Hotalen of MI; one sister, Diane Sipes of CA; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be Saturday, January 18, 2003, 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Navy, following the service the family will receive friends in the Asbury room of the church. The family will be at the residence, 747 Firetower Road, Elizabeth City, NC. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in honor of Dennis Cupery, PO Box 401, Elizabeth City, NC 27907. Twiford’s Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Q. Cullipher

BUXTON, NC - EVELYN JOAN QUIDLEY CULLIPHER, 88, of Buxton, NC died Monday, August 30, 2004 at her residence. Mrs. Cullipher was born in Buxton and was a homemaker and a Pentecostal. She was the daughter of the late Omasa and Evelena Stowe Quidley and the widow of the late William Edward Cullipher.

Mrs. Cullipher is survived by two daughters, Barbara C. Niedrauer and Rose C. Durose, both of Orlando, FL; a brother, Edward Quidley of Buxton, NC; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Lighthouse Assembly of God, Buxton, NC on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at 1:00 pm with Rev. David Waterfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Family Cemetery in Buxton. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Elmer E. Badger, III

Elizabeth City, NC - Elmer E. Badger, III age 66, of 1519 Harvey Point Rd., Hertford, NC died Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at Albemarle Hospital. He was owner of Machine Shop Services in Hertford, NC. He was born in Chesapeake, VA.

Mr. Badger is the son of Emily Massey Badger of Hertford, NC and the late Elmer E. Badger, Sr.

Besides his mother, Mr. Badger is survived by a son, Mark Lee Badger of Rockville, MD and three grandchildren.

Twiford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, however no services are planned at this time.

Olive Culipher

Wake Forest, NC - Olive Winslow Culipher, age 92, formerly of Elizabeth City, NC, died Tuesday, September 22, 2004, in Hillside Nursing Center, Wake Forest, NC. She was a native of Perquimans County, NC, and was the daughter of the late Charlie T. Winslow and Mary White Winslow. She was the wife of the late Benjamin Earl Culipher. She was a retired clerk for W. T. Grant Department Store, and was a member of City Road United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Earlene C. Miller and her husband, Paul, of Wake Forest, NC; three sisters, Ruth Layden of Belvidere, NC, Bernice Chappell of Sunbury, NC, and Claire Hendron of Tyner, NC; three brothers, Ernest Melvin Winslow, and Kenneth Winlsow of Elizabeth City, NC, and Clinton Ray Winslow of Hertford, NC; two grandchildren, Joy Powell and her husband Joey, and Earl G. Miller of his wife Charlotte; four great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers, Arnold Winslow and Chester Winslow, and Robert Winslow.

A graveside service will be Friday, September 24, 2004, at 2:00 PM in West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Earl G. Miller officiating. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home Friday from 12:00 PM till 1:30 PM.

James A. Culbreth

Chesapeake – James Aaron Culbreth, 22, departed this world to be with his Lord and Savior, on Feb. 21, 2004. He was an honor graduate of Hickory High School class of 2000, a member of Good Hope UMC, and loved the outdoors.

James leaves behind, his parents, Melody and King Culbreth; a sister Ashley Culbreth; grandparents, Olive Culbreth, William and Judy Hall, and Charles and Mary Fryer; and a host of loving and devoted family and friends.

A celebration of his life will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Twiford’s Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake with Pastor Mark Christian officiating. Burial will follow at the Good Hope UMC Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 7:00 until 8:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Good Hope UMC, 1633 Benefit Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322.

Michael Crumpler

Michael W. Crumpler Sr.--Michael (Big Mike) Crumpler, 58, of the 500 block of Summers Dr. died March 12, 2004 at his residence. A Graveside service will be held March 18, at 11:00am at Kenly Cemetery, Kenly, NC.

John Aydlett, Sr.

John A. Aydlett, Sr., 76, of Sims, Arkansas died January 24, 2004. He was a native of Grandy, NC and was the son of the late Mark L. and Katie E. Simpson Aydlett. Mr. Aydlett lived in Sims, Arkansas for several years and was politically involved with the ECO System Management Advisory Committee for that area. He served in the US Merchant Marines during World War II and later served in the U. S. Coast Guard.

He is survived by two daughters, Patricia L. Aydlett of Currituck, NC and Barbara A. Pipkin of Charlotte, NC; three sons, John A. Aydlett, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Mark G. Aydlett of Edenton, NC and Michael J. Aydlett of Huston, TX; two sisters, Alethia Baum of Grandy, NC and Ruth Stone of Jarvisburg, NC; two brothers, Guy Aydlett of Suffolk, VA and Mark R. Aydlett of Chesapeake, VA. Also, he is survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Evans.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, February 21, 2004, at 11:00am in the Baum Family Cemetery in Grandy, NC. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, NC is in charge of funeral arrangements.
